중소기업의 혁신행동에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 근무경력과 직급의 조절효과를 중심으로 (A Study on the Factors Affecting Organizational Innovation Behavior of SMEs: Focused on the Moderate Effect of Work Experience and Rank)

  • 중소기업의 경우 최소인원으로 핵심기능만을 조직화한 창업이 늘어나고, 핵심기능에 집중하는 책임경영 체제가 강조되면서 기업의 혁신행동과 생존전략에 대한 관심이 더욱 커지고 있다. 그러나 중소기업의 경우 자본과 전문인력의 부족으로 인해 지속적인 혁신을 추진하기 쉽지 않다. 이에 본 연구는 중소기업의 혁신행동에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위한 목적으로 중소기업에 종사하고 있는 조직원을 대상으로 탐색적 조사 실시와 문헌연구를 통해 변수를 선정하였다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위한 자료는 실제 중소기업에 종사하고 있는 종사원들을 대상으로 설문서를 작성하여 총 배포된 600부 중 545부를 자료 분석에 사용하여, 통계 프로그램 SPSS 21.0과 amos18.0 으로 분석하였다. 가설 검증 결과, 첫째, 제품다각화, 전략수립, 연구개발은 혁신행동에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인 되었고, 시장다각화는 혁신행동에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 조절변수인 근무경력은 제품다각화, 시장다각화, 전략수립 및 연구개발이 혁신행동에 미치는 영향력의 크기를 조절하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 조절변수인 직급은 제품다각화, 시장다각화, 전략수립 및 연구개발이 혁신행동에 미치는 영향력의 크기를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 제품다각화, 시장다각화 전략수립 및 연구개발과 조직의 혁신 활동을 촉진시키기 위해서는 기업의 관리자가 주도적으로 조직원들을 이끌어야 한다는 것이다. 본 연구는 이상의 연구 결론 및 시사점을 논의한 후, 후속 연구를 위한 연구의 방향을 제시하였다.

한국기업의 가치혁신 전략 : 제조업을 중심으로 (The Value Innovation Strategy of the Korean Manufacturing Companies)

  • The competitive strategies of the Korean manufacturing companies have changed from the "cost leadership" strategy in the early developing stage since 1960's to the "stuck in the middle" position since 1990's in the face of emerging new cost leaders as the Chinese companies. The data on the strategic contents of the Korean manufacturing companies show that their strategies are seeking the value innovation through not only quality improvement but also cost reduction altogether rather than selecting one on the trade-off relation between the both competitive dimensions. Their strategic actions seem to be seeking the operational efficiencies through all the value chain activities rather than the strategic effectiveness by selecting and focusing on the specific competitive dimension, which is considered as a typical strategic approach. Their strategy seems to be non-strategic in the general sense. But their non-strategically looking behaviors can be reasonable enough for their sandwiched competitive position between the global quality leaders and following cost leaders. This paper explains why their strategies can be right through the theoretical explanations by using the quality-price elasticity approaches for the consumer behaviors. We can call their strategic activities as the value innovation strategy.

혁신적 전략기업 형성을 위한 기업문화의 역할 (Role of corporate culture in shaping up innovative, strategy-driven corporation)

  • With the dawn of the 21st century, the corporate business environment started to witness the unprecedented, intense competition on global basis. As a result, the kind of corporate business activity that can respond swiftly to the new changes emerged as one of the most critical factors to increase corporate competitiveness. Being reborn as a strategy-focused organization means seeking innovation. And the strategy not involving innovation is just meaningless. It is this innovation that lies at the heart of the corporate strategy, and that is the only way for continuation of the corporation. The most important pending issue facing companies today is to bolster corporate competencies fit for new business environment, to develop corporate culture required for getting competitiveness edge back, and ultimately to put the company on the continued growth path. Corporate culture, as the very underlying belief and philosophy, is not just woven into the fabric of the corporate management strategy and into the way the company is doing its business. It also, as a regulation and norm for its employees to stick by, affects the way they think and behave. This paper aims at presenting the role of the corporate culture in working out problems encountered by companies today, like corporate innovation, instilling vitality to the organization, beefing up the underlying corporate capabilities, and making transformation required by the changing business environment.

Factors Influencing Global Expansion/Scalability of Small and Medium Enterprises: A Kenyan Case

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the factors influencing global expansion/scalability of Kenyan Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Factor analysis and multiple/multivariate regression analysis to determine the functional relationship between independent variables (factors) and the dependent variable was used. The independent variables were: innovation & technology, fitness/appropriateness of management, global marketing strategy; and support environment and the dependent variable, global expansion/scalability. Data was collected from a survey of randomly selected firms of 205, drawn from a population of 440 firms from Kenya Manufacturers Directory, with 175 firms responding. The key findings from the research in relation to Kenyan SMEs were that: there is a functional relationship between global market strategy and global expansion; there is a functional relationship between innovation and technology orientation and global expansion, there is no significant functional relationship between supportive environment of firms and their global expansion; and there is no significant functional relationship between fitness/appropriateness of management and global expansion/scalability. The implications for practice is that the ranking of the factors in order of priority supports focusing concern on the orientation of business strategy toward global market strategy, market research geared at obtaining foreign market intelligence, innovation and technology, product adaptation, service orientation, collaborative ventures, and long-range vision as key factors in making Kenyan firms successful in the international market. The implication for policy and practice is that there is need for collaboration between industry and government in pursuing policies for global expansion/scalability and among SMEs and large enterprises particularly in areas of rapid technological change.

무엇이 중소기업의 개방형 혁신을 결정하는가? 전략-문화 혼합유형과 환경 역동성을 고려한 실증연구 (What Determines Open Innovation in SMEs? An Empirical Study Considering the Strategy-Culture Mixed Typology and Environmental Dynamism)

  • 본 연구는 전략-문화 혼합유형과 환경 역동성을 고려하여 중소기업의 개방형 혁신에 적합한 상황 및 유형을 실증적으로 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 174개 중소기업을 대상으로 4개 집단으로 분류하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전략-문화가 일치하는 PD형은 내·외향형 혁신 모두 혁신성과에 긍정적 영향을 미치고 동적 기술환경에서 내향형 혁신을 통해 성과를 향상시켰다. 반대로 DH형은 내·외향형 혁신 모두 유의한 효과가 없었다. 둘째, 전략-문화가 불일치하는 PH형과 DD형은 외향형과 내향형 중 단일 혁신만 성과에 영향을 미쳤다. 한편, PH, DD, DH형은 환경 역동성에 따른 조절효과는 확인되지 않았다. 개방형 혁신을 지향하는 중소기업은 변화·혁신 지향형 전략과 창의·도전적 문화를 일치시킴으로써 혁신성과를 향상하도록 노력해야 한다.

Public Procurement for Innovation in Vietnam: Rationales and Perspectives

  • Public procurement for innovation (PPI) is a new approach in stimulating innovation, and currently attracts considerable attention from policymakers and academics. This paper discusses the rationales and perspectives of PPI in Vietnam. The rationales for public procurement for innovation policy in Vietnam compared to theoretical and international practice are discussed. From such a comparison, the paper concludes that R&D results-procurement policy in Vietnam shall be understood and implemented as regular PPI both theoretically and practically. However while designing the policy, policymakers must consider the characteristics of the STI system of the country in order to make the policy adaptable to context. The paper identifies that PPI in Vietnam can be implemented with a ready legal framework (intellectual property rights, R&D contracts, standardization, etc.), the prepared capabilities of R&D institutions, businesses, and public agencies in innovation processes, and the provision of a demand-supply network and other procurement incentives.

대학 혁신생태계의 공진화 전략에 대한 이론적 고찰 (A Theoretical Study on the Coevolution Strategy of University Innovation Ecosystems)

  • 대학이 직면하고 있는 생존환경을 고려할 때, 대학의 생존전략은 생태계적 사고에 기반 하는 공진화 전략구축이 되어야 함을 이 연구는 강조한다. 따라서 대학은 지역혁신생태계의 핵심역할을 수행하기 위한 전략구축이 요청되는 바, 대학혁신생태계를 네 단계로 구분하고, 각 단계별 공진화전략을 구축하는 이론적 틀을 제시하는 것을 연구 목적으로 한다. 따라서 연구방법은 이론적 문헌연구에 초점을 두었으며, 대학혁신생태계 논리구축의 이론적 프레임워크는 Moore의 기업생태계 연구 모형(1996)을 원용 하였다. 대학의 생태계혁신전략은 네 개의 발전단계로 구분하고, 단계별 공진화 전략을 제시한다. 개척단계에서 대학의 공진화전략은 대학주도 혁신생태계의 가치창조를, 확장단계에서는 임계치 확보, 권위단계에서는 권위와 교섭력 지속, 마지막 쇄신단계에서는 성과의 지속적 개선을 제시하였다. 특히 대학의 혁신생태계 구축 및 확산의 가능성은 지역산업과 정부정책과의 연동성과 적실성을 강조하였다. 이러한 대학-지역 혁신생태계 모형은 정부 재정지원사업의 효과성을 제고할 수 있는 이론적 근거를 제시하였다는 측면에서, 그리고 개별 대학에게는 자신의 생태계구축 단계에 적합한 공진화 전략을 위한 틀을 제공한다는 측면에서 연구의 의의가 있다.

기술혁신활동이 경영효율성에 미치는 영향 : Inverted U Shaped 모형 (The Impact of Technology Innovation Activity on Managerial Efficiency: An Inverted U shaped Model)

  • Purpose: This study addressed the relationship between technological innovation activity and management efficiency of Korean automobile firms. We tested the hypothesis of non-liner relationship of innovation activity in relation to management efficiency. Methods: We discussed prior literature in the firm innovation strategy and management efficiency studies to provide better understanding of relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency. As a result, we developed develop and tested a model (Inverted-U shaped) capturing the non-linear impact of technological innovation activity. While we used R&D expenditure and patent registration data for measuring firms' innovation activity, management efficiency was evaluated by using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Results: Main findings of our empirical analysis indicated that the relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency was inverted U shaped. This implied that the relationship between technological innovation and management efficiency is inverted U-shaped non-linear, with management efficiency increasing up to a point, beyond which higher levels of R&D and patent registration activities led to a decrease in management efficiency. Conclusion: This study empirically assessed the inconclusive findings of previous research in the area of effects of innovation activities in relation to firm performance. The paper also provided theoretical and practical implications for firms who explore efficient strategy to promote the management performance through technological innovation activities. Future research directions with the limitation of the study was discussed.

The Concepts and Issues of Societal Innovation Policy

  • Innovation Policy has evolved to solve social problems through technological innovation. Industrial innovation policy promotes technological innovation so that it consolidates industrial competitiveness and aims at economic growth; however, societal innovation policy promotes technological innovation in the social service domain to improve the quality of life and strengthen sustainability. A different policy regime is required because the objectives and directions of societal innovation policy are different from those of industrial innovation policy. This report consolidates the concepts and characteristics of societal innovation policy that suggest policy options.
