Objectives : In this paper, the main objective is to analyze and evaluate Kim Gwangjin(金光鎭, 1885-1940)'s academical achievements of integration of eastern with western medicine and innovation of traditional medicine(TM, 漢醫). Methods : This paper is composed of two parts. First, analyzing Kim's medical book, the principle of Up and Down in Medicine(醫學升降法) by the way of text analysis and interpretation faithfully. Second, adding historical perspectives about his achievements. Results : Kim opened a clinic and practiced TM in Daegu, a city of Youngnam(嶺南) area of Korea, in 1924, and published the book in 1936. While Kim acknowledged the scientific results by western medicine and criticized the typical explanation of five viscera or qi circuits of TM, he clarified the treatment range for TM and provided his own interpretations of pathophysiology through the ups and downs of qi, without conflicting between western medicine and TM. Moreover, he critically follows the TM discourses of the most noted practitioner, Lee Gyoojoon(李圭晙), in the Youngnam area of the time. Conclusions : In the 1930s, although western medicine has become the new core orientation and has forced out TM to the districts, within the abyss of the districts, TM still maintained its strong presence.
The minimum royalty should have two objectives. One is to guarantee the minimum license payment and the other is to screen the eligible licensee to prevent the licensee`s strategic behavior. In the licensing contract for public-to-private technology transfer, the latter plays more important role than the former in viewpoint of the successful technology transfer and commercialization. However, the minimum royalty falls into a dilemma to increasing the risk on the part of licensee in case of failure in technology transfer and commercialization. In our study, ex-post option contract will be suggested as a risk sharing mechanism to overcome above dilemma. The ex-post option contract means the contract which the licensee has the option whether to go or not at the time of manufacturing stage. To proof the usefulness of ex-post option contract, it is shown in the study that expected utility of a licensor and a licensee can increase with a certain constraint, which depends on degree of uncertainty and licensee`s risk aversion, after introducing the ex-post option contract. In spite of this constraint, the usefulness of ex-post option contract may be highly appreciated because its constraint is quite normal case in the real world.
Science & Technology(S&T) personnel have been Playing a major role to develop our country since S&T is the most important factor in enhancing national competitiveness in the 21st century, As S&T activities are done by S&T personnel, it is essential to improve the welfare of S&T personnel in order to increase the performance of S&T activities. We should motivate them to pour their efforts and energy in S&T activities. However, the issue of S&T personnel's welfare has not been discussed sufficiently not only in academic research, but also in actual S&T policies. It has caused many social problems, for example, avoidance of S&T areas by young generation, low social recognition of S&T community, and so on. Under this background, this paper aims at investigating how to effectively improve S&T personnel's welfare. In this paper, we will suggest the 'Comprehensive Welfare Town for S&T personnel' as an effective instrument for improving of S&T personnel's welfare. In particular, we will discuss the detailed aspects of the comprehensive welfare town : objectives, strategies and budgets.
Objectives: The correlation between medicinal herbal formulas and a risk of cardiotoxicity has been controversial. Thus, this study investigated cardiac safety assessment of 52 most commonly used medicinal herbal formulas. Methods: We evaluated the in vitro effects of medicinal herbal formulas on recombinant human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK 293) cell line expressing human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) potassium channel. Results and Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that all of 52 medicinal herbal formulas did not show inhibition of hERG current in hERG-HEK 293 recombinant cells. In conclusion, these safety data suggest that 52 medicinal herbal formulas were not associated with an increased risk of cardiotoxicity in hERG-HEK 293 recombinant cells.

Corporate governance and innovation have been a hot topic in recent boardroom talks, whether in the trade or manufacturing industries. Governance innovations are highly significant for the survival of the motor vehicle industry like Honda, Nissan, New General Motors, and Toyota. The study chooses the motor vehicle industry which crosses the age of a century and sufficient corroborative support exists with the perspective of distinctive objectives. Using the population of all the automobile companies listed on the Pakistan stock exchange (PSX), we distill automobile companies to evaluate the firm performance using the panel data regression approach. The results show that there is a significant relationship between gender diversity, audit committees, and firm performance. Further, board size also has a positive impact on firm performance. We identify that the governance mechanism of firms found in default of the frequency of audit committee meetings. By considering results, only limited knowledge of finance directors and also very few numbers of female directors are on the board. Empirical findings of this work might be useful for policymakers in attempting to draft a corporate governance framework better able to monitor the financial performance of firms through female directors and also serve as a catalyst for the regulators of electric vehicles.
The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) presented by Davis (1989) has been regarded as highly explanatory as well as the clearest model in explaining consumers' adoption of innovative technology or products. Existing studies have expanded the model by adding related external variables to improve the explanation depending on the type of innovative technology. This study expanded TAM by adding two more variables, namely consumers' technology innovation and clothing involvement considering the feature of smart clothing. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1. to suggest the extended TAM in explaining the adoption process of smart clothing, 2. to verify the differences in the path hypotheses according to the type of smart clothing. A total of 815 effective samples were collected from adults over 20 years old, and AMOS 5.0 package was employed for data analysis. As a result, it was proved that the extended TAM was appropriate for explaining the process of adopting smart clothing according to the path hypotheses of smart clothing types. Technology innovation and clothing involvement were confirmed as antecedent variables in affecting TAM. The perceived usefulness appeared to be a more crucial variable than the perceived ease of use and attitude was found to be an important parameter in adopting smart clothing. Considering the path hypotheses of MP3 playing clothes, perceived usefulness had a direct influence on acceptance intention unlike other types of smart clothing. As for photonic clothes, the influence of perceived ease of use on attitude was supported while it was rejected in the case of MP3 playing clothes and sensing sportswear.
We studied how to achieve successful implementation of massive research and development projects requiring collaboration among industries, universities and government-supported research institute. We have set up an engineering process innovation model to be deemed most adequately for all practical purposes, relying on the theoretical studies on the merits and analysis of the effect of the information system based on Milestone Management, Work Breakdown Structures and Web, which is known to be effective for research project (schedule) management and the objective management, and implemented a real-world web-based project objective management system. After a review of various R & D Project Schedule Management methods, we found that this information system was very compatible with project objective management. This project objective management information system carries out research and development projects effectively and efficiently, getting together in cyber-space and sharing information, and has been equipped with an Early Warning Subsystem to allow for pre-analysis and timely response to potential problems arising from the course of the project. The system also contains an Executive Information System that in real time, automatically provides the management information required by managers with the rate of project progress (achievement, fulfillment and delay). Lastly, actual progress can be cross-checked through both on-line objective management on the web-based information system and design review meeting held on site, to improve the efficiency and validity of the information system. Moreover, overall effect was analyzed through questionnaires on how well the system and generated information meet requirements and on the ultimate impact of the system upon objective management and communication. The questionnaire on the system effect revealed that the information system was useful to objective management and communication, and that the quality of the system was more than acceptable as well.
