The elevator rope is easy to oscillate and continue vibrating because the rope structure is flexible and inner damping is small. The vibration of elevator rope is caused by the building vibration excited by external disturbances such as winds and earthquake. This paper is concerned with the experimental verification of the elevator rope vibrations using a small-scale simulator. The elevator rope vibration coupled with the building vibration was modelled using the energy method in the previous study. In this study, the natural frequencies of the elevator rope were computed using the theoretical model and compared to experimental results. Also, the time-responses of the rope vibration during the cage motion were measured by laser sensors and compared to the theoretical predictions. Experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.
The in-pile Section (IPS) is subjected to flow-induced vibration(FIV) due to the flow of the primary coolant and then the structural integrity. The in-pile Section (IPS) of 3-pin Fuel Test Loop(FTL) shall be installed in the vortical hole call IR1 of HANARO reactor core. In order to verify the velocity and displacement both the inside region of IPS at the annular region of IPS, the vibration was measured by varing the flow rate on both regions. The displacements of fuel assembly in the in-pile Section (IPS) were found to be lower than the values of allowable design criteria.
The configuration of coaxial co-rotating contained in shroud provides a useful model for investigating the characteristics of flow in the HDD. Reynolds number is defined as $Re_R={\Omega}{R_o}^2/{\upsilon},\;Re_H={\Omega}R_oH/{\upsilon}$ in present study. An experimental investigation was performed for turbulence profiles and PSD distribution and vortices frequency behavior for various range of $Re_R=2.43{\times}10^4{\sim}3.61{\times}10^5$. A laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) is used to obtain the velocity field of unobstructed co-rotating disks flow. Airflow pattern visualization between inner and outer region was compared with turbulence profiles measured from LDA. Outer detached shear layer and dead-zone without oscillating velocity fluctuation to circumferential mean were quantitively traced.
This paper experimentally deals with the vibration characteristics of flat ring transducers used for ultrasonic sensors and actuators. Radial vibration mode, which is the fundamental mode of a thin piezoelectric transducer, was measured by a laser in-plane vibrometer. An impedance analyzer was used to measure natural frequencies. The results measured by experiments verified theoretical predictions. The vibration characteristics of ring transducers were identified according to the outer diameter size. The shape of the fundamental mode is almost uniform but slightly decreases from the inner to the outer circumferential surfaces. The natural frequency of the fundamental mode decreases as the outer diameter increases. It appears that the ring type transducer is suitable to excite uniformly distributed vibration on a flat surface.
It has been widely known that geometrical or form errors of ball bearings such as ball size error, ball waviness, inner and outer race waviness due to inherent manufacturing imperfection are one of the major sources of uncontrollable non-repeatable run-out (NRRO) vibration in HDD spindle motor. NRRO in HDD is also known to be the primary cause of limiting the storage capacity of HDD. In this paper, We performed vibration analysis for NRRO a ball bearing being used in 3.5" HDD spindle motor. To theoretically estimate NRRO considering the geometrical errors of ball bearing components, a simple three degrees of freedom model was proposed and then vibration analysis for axial and radial NRRO was conducted utilizing the measured geometric imperfection of a bearing with both the waviness magnitude and phase taken into account. Effects of bearing preload and clearance on NRRO was also investigated as an effort to predict their optimum values minimizing bearing NRRO.
The paper represents the stability of a rotor system with the squeeze film damper (SFD) using an electromagnet. The electromagnet is installed in the inner damper of the SFD. The proposed SFD has basically property of a conventional SFD and variable damping property according to variation of the applied electric current. Therefore, when the applied current controlled, the whirling vibration of the rotor system can be effectively reduced in a wide operational speed range. In the present work, the performance of the SFD was experimentally investigated according to changing the magnetic field strength. When the applied current increased, the whirling amplitude greatly reduced and the damping ratio also increased.
A liquid storage rectangular tank structures are used in many fields of civil, mechanical and marine engineering. Especially, Ship structures have many tanks in contact with inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and cargo tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks ill contact with fluid near engine or propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tank structures. In the previous report, we have developed numerical tool of vibration analysis of 3-dimensional tank structure using finite elements for plates and boundary elements for fluid region. In the present report, using the numerical analysis, vibrations characteristics in deep water tank are investigated and discussed.
The vibration of washing machine at spinning cycle is important problem that affects the performance of a product. In this raper, the inner structure of the washing machine is modeled as a rigid body suspension system and transfer farce caused by rotating unbalance mass is obtained using Newton's the 2nd law. and this model is used to predict the verge of walking instability during the spinning cycle. The walk of the drum washing machine is suggested by calculating the force transmissibility between drum and the cabinet. As calculating the resultant force exerted for cabinet, the friction coefficient of the pad is suggested to avoid the walk. In addition, relation between translational slip and rotational slip is derived and method to avoid the rotational slip is introduced.
Comparisons of measuring apparatus for sound insulation are made between a reverberation chamber and a simplified test apparatus(APAMAT II) that is used to measure sound insulation performance of inner panels for automobiles. Also, theoretical prediction by using sandwich model are made in order to compare it with experiments and to consequently provide a design tool. Comparative results show that steel ball excitation in APAMAT II has a serious problem with sound insulation performance at the low frequency region, while speaker excitation gives a good agreements with theoretical prediction.
In this paper, we describe a chip design technique for instrumentation amplifier using a nested-chopping technique. Conventional chopping technique uses a pair of chopper, but nested chopping technique uses two pairs of chopper to reduce residual offset and 1/f noise. The inner chopper pair removes the 1/f noise, while the outer chopper pair reduces the residual offset. Our instrumentation amplifier using a nested chopping technique has residual offset under 100 nV. We also implement very low frequency filter. Since this filter needs very large RC time constant, we use a technique named 'diode connected PMOS' to increase R with small die area. The total power consumption is 3.1 mW at the supply voltage of 3.3V with the 0.35um general CMOS technology. The die area of implemented chip was $530um{\times}300um$.
