Characterization of railway substructure using a hybrid cone penetrometer

  • Changes in substructure conditions, such as ballast fouling and subgrade settlement may cause the railway quality deterioration, including the differential geometry of the rails. The objective of this study is to develop and apply a hybrid cone penetrometer (HCP) to characterize the railway substructure. The HCP consists of an outer rod and an inner mini cone, which can dynamically and statically penetrate the ballast and the subgrade, respectively. An accelerometer and four strain gauges are installed at the head of the outer rod and four strain gauges are attached at the tip of the inner mini cone. In the ballast, the outer rod provides a dynamic cone penetration index (DCPI) and the corrected DCPI (CDCPI) with the energy transferred into the rod head. Then, the inner mini cone is pushed to estimate the strength of the subgrade from the cone tip resistance. Laboratory application tests are performed on the specimen, which is prepared with gravel and sandy soil. In addition, the HCP is applied in the field and compared with the standard dynamic cone penetration test. The results from the laboratory and the field tests show that the cone tip resistance is inversely proportional to the CDCPI. Furthermore, in the subgrade, the HCP produces a high-resolution profile of the cone tip resistance and a profile of the CDCPI in the ballast. This study suggests that the dynamic and static penetration tests using the HCP may be useful for characterizing the railway substructure.

개단 강관말뚝 내부 콘항타에 의한 지지력 증대효과 분석 (Analysis of Bearing Capacity Improvement Effect of Inner Cone Penetration Equiped Open-Ended Steel Pipe Pile)

  • 본 연구에서는 콘 장비를 강관말뚝 중공에 설치함에 따른 말뚝의 거동을 분석하기 위해 축소 모형실험을 진행하였다. 콘 장비를 항타하여 설치 할 경우 먼저 강관 내부에 유입되는 관내토의 높이를 수치상으로 확인 할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 플러깅을 예측하여 플러깅에 따른 말뚝의 거동을 분석 할 수 있다. 또한 물리적인 항타 에너지로 지반의 강성과 강도를 증가 시켜 지지력을 상승 시킬 것으로 기대된다. 강사 장치를 이용하여 상대밀도 90%의 지반을 조성하고 거칠기가 다른 두 강관말뚝을 항타높이를 200mm와 500mm로 나누어 근입깊이 600mm까지 설치한다. 그리고 콘 장비의 유무에 따라 총 8가지 케이스를 나누어 말뚝의 지지력을 분석하였다. 말뚝의 항타높이, 말뚝의 거칠기, 콘 장비의 유무에 따른 세 가지 변수 중 항타높이가 약 70%로 지지력에 미치는 영향이 가장 컸으며 다음으로 콘 장비의 유무가 약 40%, 말뚝의 거칠기가 약 21%로 나타났다.

  • The increased speed of a train causes increased loads that act on the track substructures. To ensure the safety of the track substructures, proper maintenance and repair are necessary based on an accurate characterization of strength and stiffness. The objective of this study is to develop and apply a cone penetrometer incorporated with the dynamic cone penetration method (CPD) for investigating track substructures. The CPD consists of an outer rod for dynamic penetration in the ballast layer and an inner rod with load cells for static penetration in the subgrade. Additionally, an energy-monitoring module composed of strain gauges and an accelerometer is connected to the head of the outer rod to measure the dynamic responses during the dynamic penetration. Moreover, eight strain gauges are installed in the load cells for static penetration to measure the cone tip resistance and the friction resistance during static penetration. To investigate the applicability of the developed CPD, laboratory and field tests are performed. The results of the CPD tests, i.e., profiles of the corrected dynamic cone penetration index (CDI), profiles of the cone tip and friction resistances, and the friction ratio are obtained at high resolution. Moreover, the maximum shear modulus of the subgrade is estimated using the relationships between the static penetration resistances and the maximum shear modulus obtained from the laboratory tests. This study suggests that the CPD test may be a useful method for the characterization of track substructures.

내부 콘 항타를 적용한 헬리컬 파일의 지지력 및 시공성 분석 (Analysis of Axial Capacity and Constructability of Helical Pile with Inner Cone Penetration)

  • 본 연구에서는 헬리컬 파일의 관입시간과 극한하중에 관한 연구를 진행하고자 1/6 축소모형 실험을 진행하였다. 균질한 상대밀도의 사질토 지반을 형성하기 위하여 강사법을 사용하였다. 실험 조건으로 헬리컬 파일의 나선형 원판(heilx plate) 간격을 50mm와 150mm 두 Type으로 제작하였고, 헬리컬 파일의 회전관입 시 회전속도를 15rpm과 30rpm으로 진행하였다. 관입 완료된 헬리컬 파일에 콘 장비를 항타하여 관입하였다. 콘 장비 관입으로 헬리컬 파일의 극한하중 증가와 폐색의 정도를 확인 할 수 있었다. 위의 실험 결과를 토대로 헬리컬 파일의 관입시간은 "회전속도 30rpm-나선형 원판 간격 50mm"에서 단축 되었고, 극한하중은 "회전속도 30rpm-나선형 원판 간격 150mm-콘 장비 유"인 조건에서 높은 극한하중을 보였다.

정자 침입전후 무지개 송어의 난문에 대한 미세구조적 변화 (Electron Microscopic Obsenrations on Micropvle after Sperm Penetration in Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss)

  • The time-course process by which spermatozoa penetrates through the micropvle apparatus into the egg cytoplasm of rainbow trout, Oncorhvnchus mvkiss, was examined with transmission and scanning electron microscopy. In the unfertilized egg, the ess surface beneath the inner opening of the micropylar canal did not differ distinctly from the rest of the animal pole area. A spermatozoon attached to the micropvle opening 20 seconds after insemination. In the initial stases of penetration, the spermatozoon still within the micropvlar canal attached perpendicularly at its apical tip to the ess surface, then the sperm head was rapidly engulfed by the folded egg surface with its manly microvilli. A large fertilization cone with microvillus-free surface appeared on the esS surface sutra-rounding the penetrating spermatozoon. The head portion of the penetrating spermatozoon was completely wrapped by the ess surface with only the tail portion visible externally 30 seconds after insemination. The fertilization cone displayed the tail portion of the penetrating spermatozoon on the central portion of its surface 60 seconds after insemination. 150 seconds after insemination, breakdown of the cortical granules elevation were initiated at the animal pole, then completed at the vegetable pole area. The spermatozoon disappeared from the outer surface of the ess before the fertilization cone completely retracted 250 seconds after insemination. In result, the block to polvspermv to permit entry of a sin81e sperm is considered to be mechanical by the rnorpholoSical design of the micropvle and fertilization cone.

철도궤도 하부구조물 평가를 위한 타격식 관입 롯드가 체결된 콘 관입기의 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Cone Penetrometer with Impact Penetration Rod for Evaluation of Track Substructure)

  • 철도궤도 하부구조물의 유지, 보수 및 과다설계에 따른 비용을 최소화하기 위하여 궤도 하부구조물의 강도 및 강성특성에 대한 정확한 평가는 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 궤도 하부구조물의 상태를 평가하기 위한 콘 관입기(CPI)를 개발하였으며, 적용성 검증을 위하여 실내실험과 현장실험을 수행하였다. CPI를 이용한 철도궤도 하부구조물 평가의 결과로서 획득되는 결과는 동적 콘관입지수(DCPI), 원추관입저항력($q_c$), 마찰저항력($f_s$) 및 마찰력비(Fr)이다. 실험결과, 실내실험의 경우 도상자갈층에서 획득한 동적 콘 관입지수와 상부노반층에서 획득한 원추관입저항력, 마찰저항력 및 마찰비는 조성한 시료에 대하여 신뢰할 만한 결과를 보였다. 현장실험의 경우 도상자갈층의 경계면을 명확히 구분해 내었으며, 상부노반층의 불연속면을 감지하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 CPI는 동적 관입과 정적 관입 방법을 이용함으로써 궤도 하부구조물 평가에 유용한 방법이 될 것이라 기대된다.

경사노즐 선회분사기의 가솔린 분무 특성 (The Gasoline Spray Characteristics of Tapered Nozzle for a Swirl Injector)

  • The swirl spray for direct-injection spark-ignition (DISI) engines was investigated using a nozzle whose exit surface shape was cut with a certain tapered angle. The reason for the change in spray's characteristics at various tapered angles was explained by the data correlating the taper and flow angles. The spray tended to shift its characteristics from the symmetric to asymmetric when the tapered angle was increased; furthermore, the spray penetration and spray cone angle were also increased. When the tapered angle was greater than the $90^{\circ}$ minus flow angle, an opened hollow cone spray was formed because of the fuel impingement against the tapered surface area of the nozzle exit. This behavior indicates that the reduction in the air pressure difference between the inner and outer spray of the spray can be achieved. This behavior also promises the potential use of the tapered nozzle for the case where the independence of the spray performance from atmospheric pressure and fuel temperature is desired.
