Gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM) process is reducing the injection pressure during mold filling required as well as the shrinkage and warpage of the part and cycle time. Despite of these advantages, this process introduces new parameters and makes the application more difficult because the process interacts between gas and melt during injection molding process. Important GAIM factors that involved in this process include gas penetration design, locations of gas injection points, shot size, gas injection delay time as well as common injection molding parameters, gas pressure and gas injection time. In this study, the experiments were conducted to investigate effects of GAIM process variables on the gas penetration for PP and ABS moldings by changing gas injection point. Taguchi method was used fer the design of experiment. When the gas was injected at cavity's center, the most effective factor was shot size. When the gas was injected at cavity's end, the most effective factor was melt temperature. Injection speed was also an effective factor in GAIM process.
This study investigates the injection molding of a plastic rack gear and focuses on deflections in the part. The causes of deflections were found and resolved through a trade-off study by injection molding analysis. Based on a warpage analysis, the fiber orientation was found to be a dominant factor in the occurrence of deflections. Changes in the part design and various injection conditions were analyzed for their effects in reducing deflections. Based on the trade-off study, a new part bottom design, injection time, and melt temperature were recommended. A trial injection was done for the new plastic rack gear, and measurements showed that its flatness surpassed that of the original part and met the specified requirement. The short injection time, low melt temperature, and symmetric similar configuration of the part contributed to the reduction in deflections. Therefore, optimized gate design and injection conditions as well as a new part design were validated through injection molding analysis in this study.
This paper presents the development of an Intelligent Cavity Layout Design System (ICLDS) for multiple cavity injection moulds. The system is intended to assist mould designers in cavity layout design at concept design stage. The complexities and principles of cavity layout design as well as various dependencies in injection mould design are introduced. The knowledge in cavity layout design is summarized and classified. The functionality, the overall structure and general process of ICLDS are explained. The paper also discusses such issues as knowledge representation and case-based reasoning used in the development of the system. The functionality of the system is illustrated with an example of cavity layout design problem.

Gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM) process reduces the required injection pressure during mold filling stage as well as the shrinkage and warpage of the part and cycle time. Despite of these advantages, this process needs new parameters and makes the application more difficult because gas and melt interact during the injection molding process. Important GAIM factors involved in this process are gas penetration design, locations of gas injection points, shot size, delay time to inject gas as well as common injection molding parameters. In this study, the experiments are conducted to investigate effects of GAIM process variables on the gas penetration for PP (Polypropylene) and ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) moldings by changing the gas injection point. Speaking in general terms the form injection process can be described as a new process-variant of already known structural foam molding technology which roots go back to the early sixties. The most limiting factors of already know foaming processes are large cell size and the lack of uniformity of these cells as well and the inability to foam all kinds of plastic materials. In this paper, Process Study on weight change in injection rate during foaming. Experimental conditions were set as the injection speed 50,150,300 and 450 mm/s. The experiments PA, PA+GF, PP, was confirmed that the weight increase to PP+TA.
This study was conducted to examine an artificial recharge system, which was considered to be an alternative for securing additional groundwater resources in a high-density greenhouse region. An injection well with a depth of 14.0 m was placed in an alluvial plain of the zone. Eight monitoring wells were placed in a shape of dual circles around the injection well. Aquifer tests showed that the aquifer was comprised with high-permeable layer with hydraulic conductivities of 1.5×10-3~2.4×10-2 cm/sec and storage coefficients of 0.07~0.10. A step injection test resulted in a specific groundwater-level rising (Sr/Q) values of 0.013~0.018 day/㎡ with 64~92% injection efficiencies. Results of the constant-rate injection test with an optimal injection rate of 100 ㎥/day demonstrated an enormous storage capacity of the alluvial aquifer during ten experimental days. To design an optimal recharge system for an artificial recharge, the high-permeable layer should be isolated by dual packers and suitable pressure should be applied to the injection well in order to store water. An anisotropy ratio of the alluvial aquifer was evaluated to be approximately 1.25 : 1 with an anisotropy angle of 71 degrees, indicating intervals among injection wells are almost the same.
The design of delivery system is one of the most important subject in injection molding. Delivery system is a channel to flow the polymer melt from the injection molding machine to the mold cavities and affect quality and productivity of the part. The synthesis of delivery system of injection molding has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through the current CAD systems. A knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge module to an existing geometric modeler and contains knowledge to permit non-experts ad well as mold design experts to generate the acceptable geometries of gate and runner for injection molded parts.

In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.
