  • In order to improve the overall efficiency and meet the emission regulations of boiler systems, the heat exchanging methods between inlet air and exhaust gas have been used in boiler systems, named as the waste-heat-recovery condensing boiler. Recently, to further improve the overall efficiency and to reduce the NOx emission simultaneously, the concept of the water injection into the inlet air is introduced. This study suggests the models for the optimized design parameters of water injection for waste-heat-recovery condensing boilers and performs the analysis regarding the water injection amount and droplet sizes for the optimized water injection. At first, the required amount of the water injection was estimated based on the 1st law of thermodynamics under the assumption of complete evaporation of the injected water. The result showed that the higher the inlet air and exhaust gas temperature into the heat exchanger, the larger the amount of injected water is needed. Then two droplet evaporation models were proposed to analyze the required droplet size of water injection for full evaporation of injected water: one is the evaporation model of droplet in the inlet air and the other is that on the wall of heat exchanger. Based on the results of two models, the maximum allowable droplet sizes of water injection were estimated in various boiler operating conditions with respect to the residence time of the inlet air in the heat exchanger.

  • Sandwich injection molding is one of the remarkable polymer processes recently developed from conventional injection molding. But it is almost impossible to do theoretical investigation that we've researched it through numerical simulation. In this paper, numerical simulation on the study of sandwich injection molding is based on Finite Element Method and FAN/Control Volume method. In addition to conventional filling parameter that can confirm skin polymer melt front, new filling parameters have been introduced to confirm core polymer melt front advancement. These filling parameters are defined in each layer which is divided to solve temperature field along the thickness direction. One can notice different filling patterns resulted from the variation of material properties such as viscosities and power-law indexes, and processing conditions such as switch-over times and wall temperatures. It gives us a better understanding of the sandwich injection molding process. And we can recognize that it's the core polymer spatial distribution after the completion of filling that is the most important key point to use this process for industrial molding process.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of pre and post-rigor marinade injections on some quality parameters of Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles. Three marinade formulations were prepared with 2% NaCl, 2% NaCl+0.5 M lactic acid and 2% NaCl+0.5 M sodium lactate. In this study marinade uptake, pH, free water, cooking loss, drip loss and color properties were analyzed. Injection time had significant effect on marinade uptake levels of samples. Regardless of marinate formulation, marinade uptake of pre-rigor samples injected with marinade solutions were higher than post rigor samples. Injection of sodium lactate increased pH values of samples whereas lactic acid injection decreased pH. Marinade treatment and storage period had significant effect on cooking loss. At each evaluation period interaction between marinade treatment and injection time showed different effect on free water content. Storage period and marinade application had significant effect on drip loss values. Drip loss in all samples increased during the storage. During all storage days, lowest CIE $L^*$ value was found in pre-rigor samples injected with sodium lactate. Lactic acid injection caused color fade in pre-rigor and post-rigor samples. Interaction between marinade treatment and storage period was found statistically significant (p<0.05). At day 0 and 3, the lowest CIE $b^*$ values obtained pre-rigor samples injected with sodium lactate and there were no differences were found in other samples. At day 6, no significant differences were found in CIE $b^*$ values of all samples.

  • In the present paper an attempt has been made to simulate the secondary injection-primary flow interaction in the conical rocket nozzle and to derive the performance of secondary injection thrust vector control(SITVC) system. Complex three-dimensional flowfield induced by the secondary injection is numerically analyzed by solving unsteady three-dimensional Euler equation with Beam and Warming's implicit approximate factorization method. Emphasized in the present study is the effect of secondary injection such as secondary mass flow rates and the momentum of secondary/primary nozzle flow mass rates upon the gross system performance parameters such as thrust ratio, specific impulse ratio and deflection angle. The results obtained in terms of system performance parameters show that lower secondary mass flow rate is advantageous for to reduce secondary specific impulse loss. It is further found that the nozzle with secondary jet injected downstream and interacting with fast primary flow is preferable for efficient and stable SITVC over the wide range of use with the penalty of side specific impulse loss.

  • The results of systematic numerical experiments of secondary gas injection thrust vector control are presented. The effects of secondary injection system such as injection location and nozzle divergent cone angle onto the overall performance parameters such as thrust ratio, specific impulse ratio and axial thrust augmentation, are investigated. Complex nozzle exhaust flows induced by the secondary jet penetration is numerically analyzed by solving unsteady three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model for closure. Numerical simulations compared with the experiments of secondary air injection into the rocket nozzle of $9.6^{\cire}$ divergent half angle showed good agreement. The results obtained in terms of overall performance parameters showed that locating the secondary injection orifice further downstream of primary nozzle ensures the prevention of occurrence of reflected shock wave, therefore is suitable for efficient and stable thrust vectoring over a wide range of use.

  • In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.

  • A numerical study has been carried out to analyze the combustion characteristics in heavy duty diesel engine with post injection for reducing NO emission. For verification of numerical study results, calculated cylinder pressure was matched to experimental data. In this study, post injection timing and amount of post injection were modified as parameters, but the total amount of injection fuel was maintained. As the results, maximum cylinder pressure increases above minimum 2% by post injection and end of pressure curve is decreased rapidly. The more dwell time and amount of post injection fuel are, the more pressure drop occurs. And trade-off relation of NO and soot are appeared. In the results, NO was reduced without deterioration of cylinder pressure under condition of $10^{\circ}$ CA dwell time and main 60%, post 40% fuel portion.

  • Transient natures of diesel sprays are often characterized with spray visualization, since it is a non-intrusive and straightforward technique to be applied. However, as injection pressure is increased higher than a thousand bar in a modern direct injection diesel engine, very fine temporal and spatial resolutions in the spray visualization are required while sprays become optically denser. Discussed in this paper are macroscopic and microscopic spray visualization techniques and an example of image processing process for efficient and consistent measurement of spray parameters. The injection rate measurement method based on hydraulic pulse principle was suggested as a way of estimating injection velocity for transient diesel sprays. The spray visualization and injection rate measurement techniques were applied to analyze transient diesel sprays from a common-rail injection system and found to be practically effective.

  • The objective of this work is to analyze the macroscopic behavior of spray and injection characteristics on the DME blended biodiesel at different mixing ratios by using spray visualization and injection rate measurement system. The spray images were analyzed to a spray tip penetration, a spray cone angle and a spray area distribution at various mixing ratio of DME by weight. The influence of different injection pressure and ambient pressure on the fuel spray characteristics are investigated for the various injection parameters. In order to analyze the injection characteristics of test fuels, the fuel injection rate is measured at various blending ratio. The variation of viscosity of the blended fuel by the mixing of DME fuel shows the improved effect of spray developments. Also, it was found that the injection quantities of high blended ratio were larger than that of lower blended fuel. Also, higher blending fuel showed a faster evaporation than that of mixing ratio of test fuel because kinetic viscosity was changed by blending ratio.
