Simulation Study on the Effect of Pre-blow Timing on the Injection Stretch Blow Molding

  • Research on the reduction of plastic use to prevent environmental pollution is urgently needed. Accordingly, studies on reducing the weight of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are currently being conducted. PET bottles are fabricated by injection stretch blow molding. In this study, stretch blow molding for fabricating PET bottles using preform studied through a computer simulation. Blowing characteristics are analyzed by varying the start time of the pre-blow, which is one of the process conditions of stretch blow molding. Simulation results and the preform inflation process are presented, and the parameters of stretch ratio, stretching path, thickness distribution, and weight distribution of blown PET bottles are investigated.

  • In this study, the optimal feed system and process conditions that can simultaneously minimize each warpage occurring in the two shape features of the 2P Header HSG, a connector part for automobiles, were determined through injection molding simulation analysis. First, we defined each warping deformation of the two features geometrically and quantified them approximately using the injection molding simulation data. For design optimization, a full factorial experiment was conducted considering the feed system, resin temperature, and packing pressure as design variables, and a follow-up experiment was conducted based on the analysis of the average warpage. In this study, an optimal design was generated considering both the warpage result and resin-saving effect. In the optimal design, the warpages of the two shape features were predicted to be 0.18 and 0.29 mm, and these warpages were found to meet the allowable limit of warpage, which is 0.3 mm, for part assembly.

  • In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.

유동방향과 밀도이방성 분석을 위한 세라믹 분말사출성형 해석 (Simulation of Ceramic Powder Injection Molding Process to Clarify the Change of Sintering Shrinkage Depending on Flow Direction)

  • This study has focused on manufacturing technique of powder injection molding of watch case made from zirconia powder. A series of computer simulation process was applied to prediction of the flow pattern in the inside of the mould to clarifying the change of sintering shrinkage depended on flow direction. The material properties of melted feedstock inclusive of the PVT graph and thermal viscosity flowage properties were measured for obtaining the input data in computer simulation. Also, molding experiment was conducted and the results of experiment showed that good agreement with simulation results for flow pattern and weld line location. On the other hand, gravity and inertia effect have an influence on velocity of melt front because of high density of ceramic powder particles in powder injection molding against the polymer injection molding process. In the experiment, the position of melt front was compared with upper gate and lower gate position. The gravity and inertia effect could be confirmed in the experimental results.

스탬퍼 가열/냉각을 이용한 고세장비 나노 구조물 성형 (Injection Molding of High Aspect Ratio Nano Features Using Stamper Heating/Cooling Process)

  • Polypropylene substrate with hair-like nano features(aspect $ratio{\sim}10$) on the surface is fabricated by injection molding process. Pure aluminum plate is anodized to have nano pore array on the surface and used as a stamper for molding nano features, The size and the thickness of the stamper is $30mm{\times}30mm$ and 1mm. The fabricated pore is about 120nm in diameter and 1.5 um deep. For molding of a substrate with nano-hair type of surface features, the stamper is heated up over $150^{\circ}C$ before the filling stage and cooled down below $70^{\circ}C$ after filling to release the molded part. For heating the stamper, stamper itself is used as a heating element by applying electrical power directly to each end of the stamper. The stamper becomes cooled down without circulation of coolant such as water or oil. With this new stamper heating method, nano hairs with aspect ratio of about 10 was successfully injection molded. We also found the heating & cooling process of the stamper is good for releasing of molded nano-hairs.

  • In the mold-manufacturing field, various methods of advanced production technology are being used in the production of industrial-grade gear pulleys. Among the current methods are injection molding, hoop molding, insight molding, two-material molding, compound-mold molding, as well as engineering plastic mold. Currently, casting pulleys are inexpensive because they are produced in small quantities. However, they produce complications during the manufacturing process, are very unreasonable for mass production, and are disadvantageous in cost competitiveness. Pulleys are divided into hundreds of kinds and thousands of kinds, so the production methods vary. As these pulleys are made of a single material by a casting and welding method, they are not manufactured using injection molds consisting of different materials. In this research, pulleys, shafts, and reinforced plastic materials were incorporated using ANSYS software, and a low-cost, lightweight technology was applied for trial production with optimum design and extrusion technology.

  • 본 연구에서는 분리형 이동코어 방식의 스탬퍼 금형을 개발하였고, 사출성형품 품질에 영향을 주는 인자 중에 이동코어 표면 가열 방식이 미세구조를 갖는 성형품 전사성에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보았다. 이동코어 표면 가열방식은 이동코어를 가열하지 않는 일반사출방식, 할로겐램프를 이용한 복사형 가열방식과 기체화염을 이용해 가열하는 MmSH 방식을 사용했다. COC, PMMA 두 종류의 열가소성 수지를 사용하여 성형품을 제작한 결과, 이동코어 표면온도가 가장 높은 MmSH 방식에서 나노패턴 전사성이 가장 우수했고, 일반사출성형 방식으로 제작한 성형품에서 전사성이 가장 저조했다.

  • In the present study, warpage characteristics of mobile phone cover through injection molding process were investigated by using design of experiments. Warpage in plastic injection molding process has a significant effect on quality of product. Effects of injection time, packing pressure, packing time, mold temperature ana melt temperature on warpage of mobile phone cover were considered by CAE analysis and experiment with Taguchi method. The degree of warpage for the injection molded product was measured by using three dimensional CMM. It was shown that temperature parameter has more significant effect on the warpage of mobile phone cover than pressure parameter.

  • The injection molding process has high accuracy and good reproducibility that are essential for mass production at low cost. Conventional molding processes typically use the water-based mold heating and air cooling methods. However, in the nano injection molding processes, this semi-active mold temperature control results in the several defects such as air-flow mark, non-fill, sticking and tearing, etc. Therefore, in order to control temperature of the molds actively and improve the quality of the molded products, the novel nano injection molding system, which uses active heating and cooling method, has been introduced. By using the Peltier devices, the temperature of locally adiabatic molds can be controlled dramatically and the quality of the molded patterns can be improved.

  • In this study, we introduce how to apply "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to injection molding system. We report the current state of IT technology applied to produce their products in micro lens injection molding system. And we explain key technology of ICT for injection molding system and how to implement. Especially, we also mention about an embedded controller, also called as "M2M device". It provides programmable intelligent functions, communication, various interfaces, amplifier functions and mobile device connection to our application.
