A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber to improve the burning properties of lean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber. In consequence, RI method shows remarkable progress in the aspects of burning velocity and combustible lean limit compared with SI method. In this study, the necessary additional works have been performed to be based on the former results. We changed parameters as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of mixture. And the effects of residual gas at issue in a real engine were investigated. As a result, the effects of initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of initial pressure were slight. The correlation of passage hole number between overall passage hole area was grasped. And the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.
The purpose of this study is to propose the method of determining the initial pneumatic membrane structures surface and stresses and displacements. Tension structure such as pneumatic membrane structures is stabilized by their initial prestress and air pressure. The process to find initial structural overall shape of tension structures produced by initial prestress called shape finding. One of the most important factor for the design of membrane structures is to search initial smooth surface, because unlike steel or concrete building elements which resist loads in bending, all tension structure forces are carried within the surface by membrane stress. The result for initial surface of pneumatic membrane element and maximum displacement in large deformation in analysis is compared with well-known nonlinear numerical method such as Newton-raphson method and dynamic relaxation method
This paper describes the application of the finite element method to the large deflection elastic plastic analysis and ultimate load calculation of axisymmetric shell of revolution with initial imperfection subjected to external pressure. The nonlinear equilibrium equations are linearized by the successive incremental method and are solved by the combination of load increment and iteration scheme with considering plastic deformation theory. To get the more realistic effect of large deflection, corrected coordinats and directions of applied load ar every load increment steps are used. The effects of the plasticity, initial imperfection and the shape of shells on the ultimate load of clamped circular cap under external pressure are investigated. Consequently, the following conclusions are obtained; (1) At same geometric parameter $\lambda$, each shape of clamped circular caps yield same elastic ultimate loads in both cases, i.e. with and without initial imperfections, whereas, in the case of elastic-plastic state the shell becomes thicker, the ultimate loads are getting smaller. (2) The effects of initial imperfection to ultimate load are most significant in the elastic case and are more senstive in the elastic-plastic state with the thinner shells.
In this paper, the effects of parameters related to the residual stress induced due to laser shock peening process to determine mitigation of the initial tensile residual stresses are discussed, such as the maximum pressure, pressure pulse duration, laser spot size and number of laser shots. In order to estimate the influence of the initial tensile residual stresses, which is generated by welding in 35CD4 50HRC steel alloy, the initial condition option was employed in the finite element code. It is found that $2{\times}HEL$ maximum pressure and a certain range of the pressure pulse duration time can produce maximum mitigation effects near the surface and depth, regardless of the magnitudes of tensile residual stess. But plastically affected depth increase with increasing maximum pressure and pressure pulse duration time. For the laser spot size, maximum compressive residual stresses have almost constant values. But LSP is more effective with increasing the magnitudes of tensile residual stress. For the multiple LSP, magnitudes of compressive residual stresses and plastically affected depths are found to increase with increasing number of laser shots, but the effect is less pronounced for more laser shots. And to conclude, even though the initial tensile residual stresses such as weld residual stress field are existed, LSP is enough to make the surface and depth reinforcement effects.
Optimal duct design of a HVAC system requires analysis technology to accurately evaluate its pressure losses, flow rate and velocity for making a compromised design among fan capacity and duct size affecting initial manufacturing and operation costs, and noise induced by the HVAC system. In this paper, we carry out initial duct design using the equal friction method. Using the result, the T-method is applied for accurate analysis of flow rate. Then, the duct size is modified using the difference between the required and the calculated flow rate, which can guarantee required flow rate, reduce the pressure unbalance among duct paths and lead to select optimal fan performance. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed design method, an example for HVAC system design including noise analysis is demonstrated.
A major disadvantage of thermal nanoimprint lithography(NIL) is the thermal cycle, that is, heating over glass transition temperature and then cooling below it, which requires a significant amount of processing time and limits the throughput. One of the methods to overcome this disadvantage is to make the processing temperature lower Accordingly, it is necessary to determine the effects on the processing parameters for thermal NIL at reduced temperatures and to optimize the parameters. This starts with a clear understanding of polymer material behavior during the NIL process. In this work, the squeezing and filling of thin polymer films into nanocavities during the low temperature thermal NIL have been investigated based upon a two-dimensional viscoelastic finite element analysis in order to understand how the process conditions affect a pattern quality; Pressure and initial polymer resist thickness dependency of cavity filling behaviors has been investigated.
The present paper studies the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses in the bi-layered hollow cylinder and it is assumed that these stresses are caused by the hydrostatic pressures acting on the interior and outer free surfaces of the cylinder. The study is made by utilizing the version of the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in bodies with initial stresses for which the initial stress-strain state in bodies is determined within the scope of the classical linear theory of elasticity. For the solution to the corresponding eigenvalue problem, the discrete-analytical method is employed. Numerical results are presented and analyzed for concrete selected pairs of materials. According to these results and their analyses, it is established that, unlike homogeneous initial stresses, the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses on the torsional wave dispersion has not only quantitative but also qualitative character. For instance, in particular, it is established that as a result of the initial stresses caused by the hydrostatic pressure acting in the interior free surface of the cylinder, the cut-off frequency appears for the fundamental dispersive mode and the values of this frequency increase with the intensity of this pressure.

The purpose of this study is to find out the factors affacting liquefaction potential by using DSC(disturded state concept) method and to verify these results through cyclic shear test (truly triaxial test and cyclic triaxial) on saturated sandy soil. Based on this reserch, the DSC method predictions were found to provide satisfactory correlation with the cyclic shear test. And the relationship between the factors affecting liquefaction characteristics--relative density(Dr0 and initial effective confining pressure and physical properties of the saturated sand --ξD and Dc--is found. If the relative density and the initial effective confining pressure increase, the number of cyclic grows up. This means that Dc is incresed and ξD is decreased. Therefore, the liquefaction potential can be evaluated and the factors affacting liquefaction potential can be investigated by using on DSC method. Finally, it is shown that the DSC method can capture the liquefaction mechanism.
In the present study, low-temperature low-pressure refrigerant storage method is proposed to achieve higher cooling capacity during a short period of time than that of a compressor in steady operation. Experimental apparatus was designed and set up to analyze the performance of the new-conceptual cooling system. Two reservoirs for sequential storage of refrigerant were used in the cooling system. Several on/off solenoid valves were installed for control of refrigerant flow. From the experimental results, the initial rapid cooling by low temperature low-pressure refrigerant storage method was ascertained for successful operation. This rapid cooling methodology shall be useful for other low-capacity refrigeration system.
The main objective of this paper is to develop an improved model for the analysis of liquefaction potential and to predict excess pore pressure (EPP) using the proposed model that can simulate behavior of saturated sand under earthquake loading conditions. The damage concept is adopted for the development of the proposed model. For the development of the model, a general formulation based on experimental results and damage potential using cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) is proposed for a more realistic description of dynamic responses of saturated sand. Undrained dynamic triaxial tests are conducted using earthquake loading conditions. Based on test results, the NCER-NCW function in terms of $w_d$ and CAV is developed. Procedure for the evaluation of EPP and determination of model parameters for the proposed model is presented as well. For the determination of initial liquefaction, the minimum curvature method using the NCS-NCW curve is proposed. It is observed that predicted initial liquefaction using the proposed method agrees well with measured initial liquefaction. From results of additional undrained dynamic triaxial tests, it is seen that predicted EPP generation using the proposed model agrees well with measured results for earthquake loading cases.
