  • The analytical studies included nonlinear finite element analysis of split-tee connection details subjected to axial load and lateral load. A three-dimensional model of the connections between CFT columns and H-beams has been developed. Both initial geometrical imperfections and residual stresses are taken into consideration. A geometrically nonlinear load-displacement analysis of the structure containing the imperfection is then performed, using the Riks method. Analytical results are compared with existing experimental results. Extensive parametric analyses are carried out to investigate the relation of the connections between CFT columns and H-beam to various parameters such as the axial load, column width-thickness ratio, and split-tee thickness.

  • In spatial structures with large spaces, one important issue in structures with large spaces is how to carry the weight of the roof. A tensegrity cable dome structure is a kind of soft structural system using the tension cable and compression column as a main element. The tensegrity cable dome is built into a variety of shape around the world but then a collapse accident is increasing. Owing to a collapse accident we must grip of the collapse mechanism to prevent an accident and construct the structure with safety and economy. In this study, I investigated the unstable characteristics of the Geiger-type and Flower-type tcnsegrity cable dome structures, which is the lightweight hybrid structures using compression and tension elements continuously, according to the difference of loading conditions.

  • Based on third-order shear deformation shell theory, the present paper investigates post-buckling properties of eccentrically stiffened metal foam curved shells/panels having initial geometric imperfectness. Metal foam is considered as porous material with uniform and non-uniform models. The single-curve porous shell is subjected to in-plane compressive loads leading to post-critical stability in nonlinear regime. Via an analytical trend and employing Airy stress function, the nonlinear governing equations have been solved for calculating the post-buckling loads of stiffened geometrically imperfect metal foam curved shell. New findings display the emphasis of porosity distributions, geometrical imperfectness, foundation factors, stiffeners and geometrical parameters on post-buckling properties of porous curved shells/panels.

  • The dynamic buckling mechanism of a single-degree-of-freedom dissipative/nondissipative gradient system is thoroughly studied, employing energy criteria. The model is chosen in such a manner, that its corresponding static response is associated with all types of distinct critical points. Under a suddenly applied load of infinite duration, it is found that dynamic buckling, occurring always through a saddle, leads to an escaped motion, which is finally attracted by remote stable equilibrium positions, belonging sometimes also to complementary paths. Moreover, although the existence of initial imperfection changes the static behaviour of the system from limit point instability to bifurcation, it is established that the proposed model is dynamically stable in the large, regardless of the values of all other parameters involved.

  • This paper proposes a simple inelastic analysis approach to efficiently map out the complete nonlinear post-collapse (strain-softening) response and the maximum load capacity of axially loaded concrete encased steel composite columns (stub and slender). The scheme simultaneously incorporates the influences of difficult instabilizing phenomena such as concrete confinement, initial geometric imperfection, geometric nonlinearity, buckling of reinforcement bars and local buckling of structural steel, on the overall behavior of the composite columns. The proposed numerical method adopts fiber element discretization and an iterative M${\ddot{u}}$ller's algorithm with an additional adaptive technique that robustly yields solution convergence. The accuracy of the proposed analysis scheme is validated through comparisons with various available experimental benchmarks. Finally, a parametric study of various key parameters on the overall behaviors of the composite columns is conducted.

  • The Purpose of this paper is to evaluate the buckling strength of conceptually designed KALIMER reactor vessel. For evaluation of the buckling load buckling load the design equations and the finite element analysis are used. In finite element method the eigenvalue buckling analysis nonlinear elastic buckling analysis using snap-through buckling method and nonlinear elastic-plastic buckling analysis are carried out. the calculated buckling loads of KALIMER reactor vessel using the finite element method are in well agreement with those of the design equations. From the calculated results of buckling load in KALIMER rector vessel it is shown that the plasticity of vessel materials significantly affects the buckling load but the initial imperfection has little effects, In checking the limits of bucking load of KALIMER reactor vessel using the ASME B & PV Section III. Subsection NH the non-seismic isolation design can not satisfy the buckling limit requirements but the seismic isolation design can sufficiently satisfy the requirements.

  • One of the most common applications of ferrocement is the manufacturing of thin stiffened plates which are prone to buckling. This study focuses on the investigation of the behavior of a ferrocement plate, stiffened in both directions by means of an appropriate grid of ribs. In the present paper detailed three-dimensional numerical Finite Element models are formulated for the simulation of the behavior of the structure under study, which are able to take into account both the geometric and material non-linearities that are present in the subject at hand (plasticity, cracking, large displacements). The difference among the formulated models lies on the use of different types of finite elements. The numerical results obtained by each model are compared and the most efficient model is determined. Finally, this model is in the sequel used for the further investigation of the effect of different parameters on the ultimate load capacity, such as the initial out-of-plane imperfection of the plate and the interaction between the axial loads in both directions.

  • Single-layer latticed domes, which ore consisted of slender linear elements, are able to transmit external loads to the structure by in-plane forces, therefore spatial structures can be constructed with the merit of its own lightweight. But, as external load reaches to any critical level at which each member has not material nonlinearity, the single-layer latticed dome shows unstable phenomenon. In particular, pin-connected single-layer latticed domes have much complicate unstable phenomena that are combined with nodal buckling and member buckling. Furthermore, single-layer latticed domes are very sensible to the initial imperfection which occurred inevitably in construction. In this study, we are going to grasp the characteristics of instability for the latticed dome by finite element method considering geometrical nonlinearity.

  • An experimental and analytical investigation is performed to study the buckling behavior of composite laminates with an embedded delamination. It is of particular interest to veryfy whether delamination growth cddurs with continuming deformation after buckling of composite laminates with an embedded delamination. Experiments are conducted for [0/sub 4///90/sub 8//0/sub 4/]/sub r/ laminates with delamination size in which local buckling mode governs buckling. Results show that delamination growth occurs in hgigher load after buckling and is accompanid by other damage mechanisms such as splitting. Also, it is found that transverse deformation before difurcation buckling is due to initial imperfection and structure such as plate with small bending stiffness is sensitive to that.
