  • Although a well-established line of research has addressed the funding decision, the activities of investee startups to receive funding have been overlooked because prior research has been conduced from investor's point of view. In addition, funding does not result from one off decisions but from decision process with many stages. Moreover, the emphasis placed on specific investment criteria varies by different stages during the process. Therefore, understanding the initial funding of startups requires to analyze the strategic behaviors of startups throughout the entire funding decision process from first meeting with investors to funding success. This study investigates the initial funding process of startups, and the analysis is based on a case study of LetinAR one of the successful startups founded by students in South Korea. This study investigates how early start-ups were able to receive funding from startup's point of view, and the analysis is based on a case study of LetinAR, an augmented reality(AR) startup using Pin mirror technology. By adding "legitimacy building" stage that had not been addressed previously, we divided funding process into four stages: 1) legitimacy building, 2) familiarization, 3) screening, and 4) bargaining phase. We did not only analyze major criteria, but also strategic activities of startup at each stage. This study makes a contribution by helping us understand complicated process of funding and the successful strategic behavior of investor backed startups.

  • Compared to men, women experience difficulties in fund-raising, which can be a fundamental impediment to the success of women entrepreneurs. In this study, we examine whether is a difference between genders in the initial funding performance of start-up companies and confirm whether there are differences in organizational factors and entrepreneur factors that affect the initial funding performance. Data were collected through a survey of technology-based start-up companies located in the metropolitan area, and 287 companies were used for hypothesis analysis. The results reveal that there was a significant difference between genders in the investment attraction performance of early-stage entrepreneurs. In addition, as a result of the split-group regression analysis, it was found that in the case of men, firm age, early firm size, starting capital, engineering major had a significant effect on men. However, in the case of the women's group, it was confirmed that all the variables related to the organizational factors and entrepreneur factors were not significant. This study indirectly suggests that prejudices such as gender role stereotypes actually affect economic activities related to investment attraction activities.

  • In the 21st century, developing cultural industry is an important issue world-wide. Since the Kim Daejoong government, Korea has focused on cultural industry development and has thereby treated it as one of the basic, necessary industries. Therefore, the industry is being supported both financially and politically. This policy nurtured the development of quality and quantity within the cultural content industry. However, most of the reports and studies about Korean cultural content have shown it is still not strong enough to compete with leading countries in the field. Competitiveness of storytelling is especially weak. The goal of this study is to find the best direction for the funding policy to strengthen competitiveness in storytelling. Analysing the policies of the No Moo-hyun and Lee Myoung-park governments, we can see that they primarily focused on developing infrastructure in investment and the distribution environment. Support for producing content and distribution follows after confirmation of results. Moreover, policies for the support of developing ideas within culture content are vertical. Currently in the industry, a person or company decides how and where to use the moneys available for investment in the development of content. However, we need to invest more directly, initial funding is required. We analysed the market, studying its activity, achievement and limitations. As a result, we suggest a 'Storytelling Factory' like the group writing system adopted by US TV Shows.

  • We look at the initial stage of Meta (previous Facebook)'s new metaverse platform and investigate its platform design in pre-launch and ignition life stage. From the Rocket Model (RM)'s theoretical logic, the results reveal that Meta firstly focuses on investing in key content developers by acquiring virtual reality (VR), video, music content firms and offering production support platform of the augmented reality (AR) content, 'Spark AR' last three years (2019~2021) for attracting high-potential developers and users. In terms of three matching criteria, Meta develops an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered translation software, partners with Microsoft (MS) for cloud computing and AI, and develops an AI platform for realistic avatar, MyoSuite. In 'connect' function, Meta curates the game concept submitted by game developers, welcomes other game and SNS based metaverse apps, and expands Horizon Worlds (HW) on VR devices to PCs and mobile devices. In 'transact' function, Meta offers 'HW Creator Funding' program for metaverse, launches the first commercialized Meta Avatar Store on Meta's conventional SNS and Messaging apps by inviting all fashion creators to design and sell clothing in this store. Mata also launches an initial test of non-fungible token (NFT) display on Instagram and expands it to Facebook in the US. Lastly, regarding optimization, especially in the face of recent data privacy issues that have adversely affected corporate key performance indicators (KPIs), Meta assures not to collect any new data and to make its privacy policy easier to understand and update its terms of service more user friendly.

  • In recent years, Bitcoin and Ethereum have witnessed a surge in trading activity, driven by venture capital investment and funding through initial coin offerings (ICOs) and initial exchange offerings (IEOs). This heightened interest has led to kickstarting a vibrant ecosystem for blockchain development. The total number of cryptocurrencies listed on CoinMarketCap.com has reached 2,274 highlights how dynamic and wide blockchain development landscape has grown. In blockchain development, new blockchain projects are being created by forking blockchains inspired by major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. These projects aim to address the perceived shortcomings and improve existing technologies. Altcoins, representing these alternative cryptocurrencies, are an ongoing industry effort to improve performance and security with enhancement proposals such as Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIP), Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP), and EOSIO Enhancement Proposals (EEP). With competitive attempts to improve blockchain performance and security, an ongoing performance race between various blockchains has taken shape, each claiming its own performance advantages. In this paper, we describe the transactions contained in the blocks of each representative blockchain, and find the factors that affect the transactions per second (TPS) through transaction processing and block generation processes, and suggest their relationship with scalability.

  • This study started by focusing on the internalization of the technology appraisal model into the credit rating model to increase the discriminative power of the credit rating model not only for SMEs but also for all companies, reflecting the items related to the financial stability of the enterprises among the technology appraisal items. Therefore, it is aimed to verify whether the technology appraisal model can be applied to identify high-stability SMEs in advance. We classified companies into industries (manufacturing vs. non-manufacturing) and the age of company (initial vs. non-initial), and defined as a high-stability company that has achieved an average debt ratio less than 1/2 of the group for three years. The C5.0 was applied to verify the discriminant power of the model. As a result of the analysis, there is a difference in importance according to the type of industry and the age of company at the sub-item level, but in the mid-item level the R&D capability was a key variable for discriminating high-stability SMEs. In the early stage of establishment, the funding capacity (diversification of funding methods, capital structure and capital cost which taking into account profitability) is an important variable in financial stability. However, we concluded that technology development infrastructure, which enables continuous performance as the age of company increase, becomes an important variable affecting financial stability. The classification accuracy of the model according to the age of company and industry is 71~91%, and it is confirmed that it is possible to identify high-stability SMEs by using technology appraisal items.

  • Initial public offering (IPO) has a legal framework for investor protection, and because there are various quantitative evaluation factors, objective analysis is possible, and various studies have been conducted. In addition, crowdfunding also has several devices to prevent indiscriminate funding as the legal system for investor protection. On the other hand, the blockchain-based cryptocurrency white paper (ICO), which has recently been in the spotlight, has ambiguous legal means and standards to protect investors and lacks quantitative evaluation methods to evaluate ICOs objectively. Therefore, this study collects online-published ICO white papers to detect fraud in ICOs, performs ICO fraud predictions based on BERT, a text embedding technique, and compares them with existing Random Forest machine learning techniques, and shows the possibility on fraud detection. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the study of ICO fraud detection based on quantitative methods by presenting the possibility of using a quantitative approach using unstructured data to identify frauds in ICOs.

  • Management of stormwater runoff is considered a nationwide challenge. To deal with this challenge, many researches have been conducted to study initial stage of stormwater fee imposition. The objective of this study was to recommend a framework for stormwater fee imposition not only for funding the stormwater management programs but also for encouraging people to decrease impervious area. This study focused on, regulations, financial resources and international cases related to stormwater runoff management. Polluter pays principle, which is generally recognized environmental policy principle is regarded the basis of stormwater fee imposition. Three components suggested for the stormwater rate structure are 1) stormwater utility revenue requirement, 2) billable equivalent stormwater unit, 3) system unit cost. The key point of stormwater rate structure is the "Equivalent Residential Unit(ERU)". The concept of an ERU is one residential area with a runoff coefficient. The runoff coefficient is that portion of rainfall that becomes runoff rather than infiltrating into the ground. In addition to this, this study took into account the observed data simulation for the separation of stormwater treatment expenditure from the comprehensive wastewater treatment cost.
