  • In order to enhance receive sensitivity in noisy environment, the previous initial synchronization method of GPS receiver for reference stations adopts not only the coherent integration method but also the non-coherent integration method. However, the previous GPS initial synchronization method causes the non-coherent integration loss, which is a dominant factor among the signal acquisition losses in noisy environment. And the non-coherent integration loss increases with the strength of noise signal. In this pa-per, a GPS initial synchronization method is proposed to enhance receive sensitivity of GPS receiver for reference stations in noisy environment. This paper presents that the proposed GPS initial synchronization method suppresses the non-coherent integration loss. Furthermore, with regard to the mean acquisition time, it is shown that the number of the search cells of the proposed GPS initial synchronization method is much fewer than that of the previous GPS initial synchronization method.

  • In this paper, we present a comparative performance evaluation of the sampling frequency synchronization method that eliminates the initial sampling frequency offset (SFO) to reduce the overall synchronization time in Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) receivers. To satisfy the advanced synchronization performance requirements of DRM receivers, we introduce the conventional DRM synchronization method (Method 1) and another method (Method 2), which does not perform the initial sampling frequency synchronization in the conventional synchronization method (both methods are mentioned later in this paper). To demonstrate the effectiveness of the performance evaluation, analytical expressions for frame detection are derived and simulations are provided. Based on the simulations and numerical analysis, our result shows that Method 2, with a negligible performance loss, is robust to the effects of the initial sampling frequency synchronization even if SFO is present in the DRM signal. In addition, we verify that the inter-cell differential correlation used between reference cells is robust to the effect of the initial SFO.

  • In this thesis, a high speed code synchronization circuit is implemented, which is applicable to frequency hopping FSK tranceiver within 68-88 MIBz band- width. synchronization Process consists of two steps, initial synchronization and tracking. A modified matched filter method using two channel passive correlators matched with short hopping frequencies, synchronization prcfix. is proposed for initial synchronization. To increase probability of initial synchronization, prefix are transmitted repeatedly. The outputs of correlators are sent to synchronization decision circuit, and code start time Is extracted by synchronizatlon decision circuit-Modified matched fitter method makes it possible to reduce complexity in hardware and obtain code acquisition rapidly.Clock recovery circuit regenerates PN code clock for tracking.

  • In this paper, we propose a high-speed synchronization method for Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) receivers. In order to satisfy the high-speed synchronization requirement of DRM receivers, the proposed method eliminate the initial sampling frequency synchronization process in conventional synchronization methods. In the proposed method, sampling frequency tracking is performed after integer frequency synchronization and frame synchronization. Different correlation algorithms are applied to detect the first frame of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) demodulation symbol with sampling frequency offset (SFO). A frame detection algorithm that is robust to SFO is selected based on the performance analysis and simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the time spent for initial sampling frequency synchronization even if SFO is present in the DRM signal. In addition, it is verify that inter-cell differential correlation used between reference cells is roubst to the effect of initial SFO.

  • A novel GPS initial synchronization scheme with low hardware complexity is proposed. The proposed method has the decomposed differential matched filter, which consists of 25% multiplier and adder of the conventional matched filter. This paper presents the generalized mean acquisition time of initial synchronization scheme with multiple correlator. It is shown that the proposed method, in spite of its low hardware complexity, has the equal performance to the conventional method. The performance of the proposed method is verified through the simulation test by the GPS simulator. It is shown that the proposed method prevents the squaring loss of non-coherent integration.

  • In general, in order to reduce an initial cell searching time, W-CDMA systems adopt a three-step cell search scheme: slot synchronization, frame synchronization, and primary scrambling code identification. We consider the second step (frame synchronization), in which a coherent detection using P-SCH (primary synchronization channel) is possible. In this paper, we propose a new coherent detection scheme, where a first order recursive filter is used to enhance channel estimation performance. Computer simulation results indicate that the detection performance of the proposed scheme can be robust over large range of frequency offset.

  • In this paper, the performance about the CDMA inital synchronization under the Rician fading channel, which is actively studied as a CAI for IMT2000(FPLMTS) is analyzed. Through the performance analysis with the double dwell serial search code acquisition, the minimum mean initial synchronization acquisition time vs signal detection threshold value and first dwell duration time respectively with parameters of false alarm probability, detection probability and test PN chips is presented and the results show the mean initial synchronization acquisition time is increased with lower slope than Rayleigh fading as the threshold value of the initial synchronization acquisition decision is increased.

  • In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme for low probability detection (LPD) systems with cyclic code shift keying (CCSK). The performance of the LPD system with CCSK highly depend on initial timing and frequency offset. On the other hand, the operating SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of LPD systems is usually very low. Hence, to guarantee a reliable performance of the LPD system, it is crucial to develop suitable initial synchronization algorithms. In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme suitable for CCSK based LPD system using a repeated preamble pattern.

  • In ATSC 3.0 systems, a bootstrap signal is located at the start of each frame. In this paper, we propose an initial synchronization scheme for ATSC 3.0 systems using the bootstrap signal. The bootstrap signal of ATSC 3.0 has several repetition patterns in the time domain. By utilizing the repetition patterns within the bootstrap, the proposed scheme can obtain an initial synchronization at the receiver. Also, simulation results show that the proposed scheme can obtain an initial synchronization at very low signal-to-noise ratios.
