Melting slag generated from the lots of municipal incineration ash, which causes the one of big urban problems in modern industrial society, was used as starting material for the hydrothermal synthesis of zeolite. P-type zeolite has been successfully synthesized by the combined process of both 'hydrogelation' and 'clay conversion' method. Commercial sodium silicate was used as Si source, and $NaAlO_2$ was prepared by the reaction in a $Na_{2}O/Al_{2}O_{3}$ molar ratio of 1.2. The optimum conditions for zeolite synthesis was found to be the $SiO_{2}/Al_{2}O_{3}$ ratio in the 3.2 and 4.2 range, the $H_{2}O/Na_{2}O$ ratio in the 70.7 and 80.0 range, and more than 15-hour reaction time at $80^{\circ}C$, In the synthesized zeolite, inhomogeneous melting slag particles were disappeared and homogeneous P-type zeolite crystal was grown. The cation exchange capacity of the synthesized zeolite was determined to be approx. 240 cmol/kg.
In this study, hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses (HPMCs) were added to prepare the rice noodle and the effects of water dosage, HPMC content, and viscosity level of HPMC on the noodle-making properties of rice dough were examined. As the water dosage was increased, the rice dough after roller pass became more flat and homogeneous. However, when the water dosage was over a certain range, the rice noodle became more waved. In the test result of various HPMC contents, 3% HPMC addition was turned out to be an optimum condition for the best noodle-making properties of rice dough. As the viscosity level of HPMC decreased, the rice dough after roller pass became inhomogeneous. However, the lowest viscosity level HPMC (PMC 40H) did not show any waved rice noodle at even high water dosage indicating the improved noodle-making properties of rice dough. On the whole, it seems that 56~58% water dosage, 3% HPMC content, and high viscosity HPMC (PMC60U) were the optimum condition for preparation of good rice noodle.

Characteristics of the static shift are discussed by comparing the three-dimensional MT inversion with/without static shift parameterization. The galvanic distortion by small-scale shallow feature often leads severe distortion in inverted resistivity structures. The new inversion algorithm is applied to four numerical data sets contaminated by different amount of static shift. In real field data interpretations, we generally do not have any a-priori information about how much the data contains the static shift. In this study, we developed an algorithm for finding both Lagrangian multiplier for smoothness and the trade-off parameter for static shift, simultaneously in 3-D MT inversion. Applications of this inversion routine for the numerical data sets showed quite reasonable estimation of static shift parameters without any a-priori information. The inversion scheme is successfully applied to all the four data sets, even when the static shift does not obey the Gaussian distribution. Allowing the static shift parameters have non-zero degree of freedom to the inversion, we could get more accurate block resistivities as well as static shifts in the data. When inversion does not consider the static shift as inversion parameters (conventional MT inversion), the block resistivities on the surface are modified considerably to match possible static shift. The inhomogeneous blocks on the surface can generate the static shift at low frequencies. By those mechanisms, the conventional 3-D MT inversion can reconstruct the resistivity structures to some extent in the deeper parts even when moderate static shifts are in the data. As frequency increased, however, the galvanic distortion is not frequency independent any more, and thus the conventional inversion failed to fit the apparent resistivity and phase, especially when strong static shift is added. Even in such case, however, reasonable estimation of block resistivity as well as static shift parameters were obtained by 3-D MT inversion with static shift parameterization.
Ferromagnetic resonance experiment was performed to study the variations of micromagnetic structure with heat treatment of melt spun $Fe_{76}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{14}B_{6}$ alloy for 1h at every $50^{\circ}C$ in the temperature range of $400^{\circ}C-700^{\circ}C$. The variations of micromagnetic structure was discussed qualitatively in terms of the variations of line width ${\Delta}H_{p-p}$ and resonance magnetic field $H_{res}$. With increasing armealing temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, ${\Delta}H_{p-p}$ decreases and $H_{res}$ increases due to the decrease in magnetic anisotropy resulting from structural relaxation during heat treatment. With increasing annealing temperature from 400 to $500^{\circ}C$, ${\Delta}H_{p-p}$ increases and $H_{res}$ decreases due to the increase in magnetic anisotropy resulting from the formation of nanocrystalline particles embedded in an amorphous matrix. With increasing armealing temperature from 500 to $550^{\circ}C$, ${\Delta}H_{p-p}$ decreases and $H_{res}$ increases due to the decrease in magnetic anisotropy resulting from the formation of homogeneous nanocrystalline structure with a minor amorphous phase. Further increase in armealing temperature above $550^{\circ}C$ C causes ${\Delta}H_{p-p}$ to increase and $H_{res}$ to decrease due to the increase in magnetic anisotropy due to the formation of inhomogeneous grain structure and intermetallic compounds.
In order to measure the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of a sample which is too large to use commercially available chamber, a stainless steel vacuum chamber (VC) (with an internal diameter of 205 mm and a height of 50 mm) was manufactured and the temperature of the chamber was controlled using an oven. After concentrating the volatiles of the sample in the chamber by helium gas, it was made possible to remove residual volatile substances present in the chamber under reduced pressure ((2 ± 1) × 10-2 mmHg). The chamber was connected to a purge & trap (P&T) using a 6 port valve to concentrate the VOCs, which were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after thermal desorption (VC-P&T-GC-MS). Using toluene, the toluene recovery rate of this device was 85 ± 2 %, reproducibility was 5 ± 2 %, and the detection limit was 0.01 ng L-1. The method of removing VOCs remaining in the chamber with helium and the method of removing those with reduced pressure was compared using Korean drinking water regulation (KDWR) VOC Mix A (5 μL of 100 ㎍ mL-1) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT, 2 μL of 500 ㎍ mL-1). In case of using helium, which requires a large amount of gas and time, reduced pressure ((2 ± 1) × 10-2 mmHg) only during the GC-MS running time, could remove VOCs and BHT to less than 0.1 % of the original injection concentration. As a result of analyzing volatile substances using VC-P&T-GC-MS of six types of cell phone case, BHT was detected in four types and quantitatively analyzed. Maintaining the chamber at reduced pressure during the GC-MS analysis time eliminated memory effect and did not affect the next sample analysis. The volatile substances in a cell phone case were also analyzed by dynamic headspace (HT3) and GC-MS, and the results of the analysis were compared with those of VC-P&T-GC-MS. Considering the chamber volume and sample weight, the VC-P&T configuration was able to collect volatile substances more efficiently than the HT3. The VC-P&T-GC-MS system is believed to be useful for VOCs measurement of inhomogeneous large sample or devices used inside clean rooms.
The impacts of ice clouds on the energy budget of the Earth and their representation in climate models have been identified as important and unsolved problems. Ice clouds consist almost exclusively of non-spherical ice crystals with various shapes and sizes. To determine the influences of ice clouds on solar and infrared radiation as required for remote sensing retrievals and numerical models, knowledge of scattering and microphysical properties of ice crystals is required. A conventional method for representing the radiative properties of ice clouds in satellite retrieval algorithms and numerical models is to combine measured microphysical properties of ice crystals from field campaigns and pre-calculated single-scattering libraries of different shapes and sizes of ice crystals, which depend heavily on microphysical and scattering properties of ice crystals. However, large discrepancies between theoretical calculations and observations of the radiative properties of ice clouds have been reported. Electron microscopy images of ice crystals grown in laboratories and captured by balloons show varying degrees of complex morphologies in sub-micron (e.g., surface roughness) and super-micron (e.g., inhomogeneous internal and external structures) scales that may cause these discrepancies. In this study, the current idealized models representing morphologies of ice crystals and the corresponding numerical methods (e.g., geometric optics, discrete dipole approximation, T-matrix, etc.) to calculate the single-scattering properties of ice crystals are reviewed. Current problems and difficulties in the calculations of the single-scattering properties of atmospheric ice crystals are addressed in terms of cloud microphysics. Future directions to develop physically consistent ice-crystal models are also discussed.

Markov envelope as a theoretical solution of the parabolic wave equation with Markov approximation for the von Kármán type random medium is studied and approximated with the convolution of two probability density functions (pdf) of normal and gamma distributions considering the previous studies on the applications of Radiative Transfer Theory (RTT) and the analysis results of earthquake records. Through the approximation with gamma pdf, the constant shape parameter of 2 was determined regardless of the source distance ro. This finding means that the scattering process has the property of an inhomogeneous single-scattering Poisson process, unlike the previous studies, which resulted in a homogeneous multiple-scattering Poisson process. Approximated Markov envelope can be treated as the normalized mean square (MS) envelope for ground acceleration because of the flat source Fourier spectrum. Based on such characteristics, the path duration is estimated from the approximated MS envelope and compared to the empirical formula derived by Boore and Thompson. The results clearly show that the path duration increases proportionately to ro1/2-ro2, and the peak value of the RMS envelope is attenuated by exp (-0.0033ro), excluding the geometrical attenuation. The attenuation slope for ro≤100 km is quite similar to that of effective attenuation for shallow crustal earthquakes, and it may be difficult to distinguish the contribution of intrinsic attenuation from effective attenuation. Slowly varying dispersive delay, also called the medium effect, represented by regular pdf, governs the path duration for the source distance shorter than 100 km. Moreover, the diffraction term, also called the distance effect because of scattering, fully controls the path duration beyond the source distance of 300 km and has a steep gradient compared to the medium effect. Source distance 100-300 km is a transition range of the path duration governing effect from random medium to distance. This means that the scattering may not be the prime cause of peak attenuation and envelope broadening for the source distance of less than 200 km. Furthermore, it is also shown that normal distribution is appropriate for the probability distribution of phase difference, as asserted in the previous studies.

In this study, we simulated induced seismicity in the Groningen natural gas reservoir using 2D hydro-mechanical coupled discrete element modelling (DEM). The code used is PFC2D (Particle Flow Code 2D), a commercial software developed by Itasca, and in order to apply to this study we further developed 1)initialization of inhomogeneous reservoir pressure distribution, 2)a non-linear pressure-time history boundary condition, 3)local stress field monitoring logic. We generated a 2D reservoir model with a size of 40 × 50 km2 and a complex fault system, and simulated years of pressure depletion with a time range between 1960 and 2020. We simulated fault system failure induced by pressure depletion and reproduced the spatiotemporal distribution of induced seismicity and assessed its failure mechanism. Also, we estimated the ground subsidence distribution and confirmed its similarity to the field measurements in the Groningen region. Through this study, we confirm the feasibility of the presented 2D hydro-mechanical coupled DEM in simulating the deformation of a complex fault system by hydro-mechanical coupled processes.
Based on the actual shape of the detector and the data provided by the manufacturer, the shape of the detector was implemented through Penelope simulation and applied to the appropriate four-layer thickness based on the efficiency obtained from the measurements. Efficiency calculations to determine the effect of the simulated number of Full Energy Peak Efficiency(FEPE) channels in the detector and the outside contact layer in the crystal on the Full Energy Peak Efficiency were performed for various four-layer thicknesses of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 mm using the Penelope Code. When the thickness of the external contact layer was increased by 5 times, the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by about 36% for 59.50 keV, and the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by 10% for 1836. In addition, as it increased by 10 times, the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by about 20% for 59.54 keV, and 7% for 1836.01 keV. The Penelope simulated Full Energy Peak Efficiency channel decreases exponentially with the increase in the four layers. In addition, it was confirmed that the total effect curve was well matched with a relative difference of less than 3.5% in the 0.3-1.4 mm dead layer thickness region. However, it was found that the inhomogeneous dead layer is still a parameter in the Monte Carlo model.

There are the plastic resin, fiber and the single metal among materials. There is also the inhomogeneous material whose durability is improved as the composite material with the property of light weight. This study notices the composite material with light weight of CFRP. The strength properties of stainless steel and aluminum which have been used generally are compared and analyzed each other with CFRP. The compact tension specimen of the same standard by each material were designed and the simulation tensile analyses were carried out. As the study result, the maximum deformation, maximum stress and maxium strain energy are shown to be about 0.0148mm, 59.104MPa and 0.00529mJ respectively in case of CFRP specimen model. The maximum deformation, maximum stress and maxium strain energy were shown to be about 0.0106mm, 42.22MPa and 0.002699mJ respectively at stainless steel. It could be checked that the maximum deformation, maximum stress and maxium strain energy of aluminum specimen model were shown to be about 0.023mm, 33.29MPa and 0.00464mJ respectively at stainless steel. Therefore, the results at this study are thought to be applied with the basic data on the strength property of CFRP composite material.
