The safety, serviceability, and design code of the infrastructures such as highway, railroad, bridges, etc. have been analyzed. It is identified that the safety and function of infrastructures in North Korea could have some problems compared with current design codes. After analyzing the results, the multi-step road map for integrating infrastructures in Korea Peninsula is proposed.
In this study, Agricultural Infrastructures of Shincheon-gun in North Korea are investigated using Kompsat-2 and RapidEye satellite imagery. Target agricultural infrastructures are agricultural landuse, irrigation and drainage canals, dammed pools for irrigation and pumping stations. KOMPSAT-2 satellite imagery are use to investigate agricultural hydraulic structures and agricultural landuse are investigated by RapidEye Imagery. Geometric correction are performed using 28 GCP and QUAC method are used for atmospherical correction in all imagery. ISODATA clustering and naked-eye classification method are used for extracting agricultural hydraulic structures and Object-based analysis is applied to classifying the agricultural landuse. Extraction results of agricultural hydraulic structures and agricultural are presented and we suggest the applicability of satellite imagery to investigate agricultural infrastructures in North Korea.
With growing expectations for economic cooperation between the two Koreas, there is much interest in participating in the construction of infrastructure in North Korea. In particular, water and sewage infrastructure is the four major social infrastructures in addition to housing, transportation, electricity and telecommunications. North Korea is known to have severe water pollution and ecosystem destruction in major rivers, water pollution and soil pollution in mining areas are serious, and water and sewage infrastructures in cities other than Pyongyang are known to be weak. Preemptive investment in water supply and drainage in North Korea is the foundation for securing the quality of life of the North Korean and is the foundation of public health and industry. It is a leading investment to reduce the cost of unification and is a new growth engine for the water reloded industry. In this study, we proposed a plan to exchange and cooperate in water environment for building water infrastructure of North Korea by examining the data related to water quality, water resources, water disaster, related legal system and human resources exchange situations in North Korea.

After the North-South Korean summit and PyeongChang Winter Olympics, it is recently expected that the North-South economic cooperation plan will be discussed in earnest. And it will be growing interest of the major infrastructure facilities such as roads and railways, and so on North-South Korean. Moreover, most of North Korean facilities have problems related to the safety and functionality of them such as aging, deterioration, and poor maintenance. This study asserts the necessity and importance of infrastructure maintenance in the Korean Peninsula. Therefore, Results of this study, it is appeared that very vulnerable to road, railroad, power/communication, water sewage and needed urgently for improvement. Accordingly, The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status for the whole facilities including the main infrastructure of the North Korean and to evaluate on the maintenance level of infrastructure based on face to face interview refugees of North Korean.
In a hyper-connected society, electric power infrastructures and information and communication infrastructures are the core of critical national infrastructures. However, electric power infrastructure is very deadly to high-frequency nuclear electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) threats recently issued by North Korea, so the resilience through rapid recovery after attack is directly related to the survivability of our country. Therefore, electric power infrastructure should take precedence over any other key infrastructure, with preemptive protection measures and fast recovery plans. In this paper, the characteristics of the HEMP threats was examined, and the risks and effective major protection measures of the electric power infrastructures are discussed. In the future, it is expected that it will be able to help establish the direction of enactment and revision of legal schems related to the 'high power EMP infringement prevention' for Korea's electric power infrastructures.

Background: Comparing with the several types of infrastructures, linear infrastructures are known to facilitate the spread of undesirable species in ecosystems. Recently, some new man-made habitats (e.g., gravel pads of the high-voltage towers, solid wastes and sewage habitats) were established along the Deltaic Mediterranean coast of Egypt as a result of the construction of the E-W coastal international highway. The current study evaluates the floristic composition associated with the pads of high-voltage towers that had been constructed for stabilizing the power line towers in the North Nile Delta. Plant cover was measured for 22 randomly stand. Results: Eighty-four species were recorded, of which 35 are perennials (41.6%), 2 biennials (2.3%) and 47 annuals (56.0%) belonging to 23 families. The largest families were Asteraceae (16 species), Poaceae (15 species), Chenopodiaceae (12 species), and Fabaceae (7 species). Ten aliens (10.7%) out of the 84 species were recorded. Therophytes have the highest percentage (58%), followed by hemicryptophytes (14%), chamaephytes (11%). Six vegetation groups were recognized in the study area after the application of two way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN), Arthrocnemum macrostachyum, Phragmites australis, and Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum have the highest presence percentage. Both of Salsola cyclophylla and Solanum villosum were recorded for the first time in North Nile Delta. Natural habitat had the highest α-diversity, but the lowest β-diversity (4.9, 15.4), while gravel pads had the reverse (2.7, 30.8). Some species which are native to the desert habitats (e.g., Rumex pictus, Salsola kali, and Carthamus tenuis) were able to invade the North Nile Delta. Conclusions: Habitat of gravel pads is an expressing form about the intense of disturbance in Deltaic Mediterranean coast of Egypt. More of efforts should be carried out to avoid more human disturbances that creating as ruderal habitats which open the gate to invasive species in the flora of North Nile Delta.
Recently, the South and North Korea have collaborated in the economic cooperation. Success for the cooperation of the South and North Korea has supported the basic and fundamental GIS data building for geographic information (GI) and the land-use of the North Korea. This North Korea GIS project is also vital to facilitate rebuilding and reconnecting socio-economic infrastructures such as reconnecting road and railway networks between the South and North Korea. Thus, this paper emphasizes on the fundamental issues of GIS data building in North Korea area and suggests GI and data establishment methods of the North Korea regions which has not been achieved in GIS research activities in Korea. As the basic GI and data in the North Korea, topographical maps, satellite imageries, and thematic maps were collected and used for surveying of territorial areas of the North Korea. The database of those dataset were built by scanning, image processing, and classifying land-use types. In addition, this paper exacted vector data from the database and included the vector data into the database as other basic GI dataset that enable to analyze quantitative and qualitative territorial land use and development in the North Korea.

North Korea is plentiful in the mineral resources as magnesite, gold, zinc, iron, rare metal, and coal resources compared to South Korea and has 6 industrial zones which are located nearby to the mineralized areas. The industrial zones are provided with a sound infrastructures and accumulation of advanced technology. As a huge mineral and energy consuming country, South Korea imports mineral and coal resources equivalent to almost 8 trillion won annually. Inter-Korean cooperation for development of mineral resources in North Korea will be improved by the practical use of the North Korea's plentiful mineral resources, infiastructures related to development and refinement, and basic geo-technology, which would be considered toward combining with South Korean capital and Russian geo-technologies.

In order to prepare the interchange between and the unification of North and South Korea, it is needed to establish the development direction of irrigation reservoirs and formulate technological and political directions for preparing effectively against the demand of agricultural countermeasure information like the analysis of rural comprehensive development projects and the present state of agricultural land of North Korea. The purpose of this research is to construct the database of agricultural productive infrastructures and analyze the present state of irrigation reservoirs of the Yeseong River Basin in North Korea using SPOT-5 satellite imagery. As a result of the research, we were able to not only design classification items but establish method and precedure for producing thematic maps related agricultural productive infrastructure without on-site survey by analyzing present condition related to agricultural water of the basin. And we intend to provide basic data for analyzing suitabile locations of irrigation reservoirs in the basin by performing basin extraction, volume evaluation of the existing reservoirs, scale cultivative lands, benefit area fo the reservoirs, and the existing agricultural water system. In addition, we were able to understand the problem and limit in constructing the database related agricultural productive facilities.
