  • When a light is projected upon a material, part of its radiation energy is absorbed and the rest is reflected or transmitted according to the nature of the material. The molecules of the substance absorbing a light obtains the radiation energy to the wavelength of the light to make photochemical degradation by ultraviolet ray or thermal reactions like physical damage by infrared ray. The degree of damage by radiation energy varies to the substances of materials, the spectral power distribution of the light source and the duration of irradiation. Because the damage brings about a devaluation of material and once damaged, it is irretrievable, it is necessary to minimize the damage and conserve the native quality of a material by a protective lighting system. A measuring system was set up to measure the temperature rise of each sample by infrared radiation from light sources. And the temperature rise and temperature distribution by various infrared lamps were measured with varying time.

  • The molecules of the substance absorbing a light obtains the radiant energy to the wavelength of the light to make thermal reactions or photochemical reactions. Specially, thermal reactions by infrared radiation brings about physical damage by temperature rise process or temperature drop process of the material. In this study, a measuring system was set up to measure the temperature rise and temperature drop of each sample by infrared radiation from light source. And a physical demage of samples by infrared radiation were measured using the measuring system.

  • Background: It had been reported by authors that linear polarized infrared light radiation (Superizer: SL) near the stellate ganglion had a similar effect on the change of skin temperature of hand compared with the stellate ganglion block (SGB). We hypothesized that this was due to dilatation of vessels and an increased blood flow. The aim of this study was to measure the velocity of blood flow in peripheral vessels after linear polarized infrared light radiation near the stellate ganglion and to compare the effect of SL with that of SGB using local anesthetics. Methods: Forty patients whose clinical criteria were matched for the symptoms of SGB were selected for study. We radiated the stellate ganglion by linear polarized infrared light radiation and measured the blood flow of radial artery using Ultrasound Doppler blood flow meter before and after 10, 20 and 30 minutes post-radiation. After 3 days, SGB was performed using 8 ml of 1% mepivacaine to the same patient, and the radial artery blood flow was measured in the same manner. Results: The blood flow velocity was increased by 40% and 27% at 10 min and 20 min after SL and by 42% and 41% at 10 min and 20 min after SGB. However, there was no statistically significant difference in blood flow velocity between SGL and SGB. Conclusions: We could conclude that linear polarized radiation is a clinically simple and useful noninvasive therapeutic tool in clinical area.

  • Thermal reactions by infrared radiation brings about physical damage by temperature rise process or temperature drop process of the material. In this study, a measuring system was set up to measure the temperature rise of each sample by infrared radiation from light source. And the temperature rise of the samples and amount of infrared radiation by various light source were measured with varying irradiance. On the basis of the result from the test, we analyzed a functional relation between infrared and infrared radiation.

  • We propose that when combustible burn with contain carbon, introduce fire detector with sensor of private-use detectable light energy as infrared and ultraviolet in energy of electromagnetic-wave type radiate from flame, method for correct discrimination to resemble fire produce false alarm of detector such as sun light, hot object radiation, are welding. This research using infrared sensor is pyroelectric infrared sensor based black body radiation theory. Ultraviolet sensor is uv Tron using gas multiplication effect to current discharge and photoelectric effect of metal. To have high sensibility and to gain proper output voltage, it has high responsive performance. This research introduced UV/IR compound type flame detector and proposed method of false alarm reduced to resemble fire. The result propres the prevention and extinction of fire technique degree, certificated operation of detector.

  • In this paper, we evaluated the effect with respect to the light of 700-1,100 nm NIR(near infrared radiation) for spectrophotometer. Standard, red, yellow, green and blue color paper which was Munsell color paper were used for experiments. Our used light is incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp, invert fluorescent lamp and combined lamp. Each color paper was measured 20 times. Therefore we concluded that it is possible to build a spectrophotometer for NIR(near infrared radiation) measurement we applied an spectrophotometer to measurement system in incandescent lamp.

  • In this study, the characteristics of muscle relaxation were analyzed by the experimental and numerical method. A skin tissue was produced by imitational biological tissue using the agar powder, saline solution and sugar. The tissue was exposed to three types of wavelength-blue visible radiation(410 nm), red visible radiation(635 nm), and infrared ray(830 nm). The temperature results along the depth of tissue were measured according to the variation of light wavelength and irradiation time. The temperature change of the tissue shown up similar pattern regardless of the light wavelength kinds. The wavelength of infrared ray penetrated strongly into tissue between 3.2 mm and 11.4 mm. Also, the temperature change with the irradiation time was small, and the temperature value of the infrared ray was the largest. As a result, the muscle relaxation will occur mainly at the infrared wavelength.

  • Knowledge of the solar radiation components and classified wavelength are essential for modeling many solar energy systems. This is particularly the case for applications that concentrate the incident energy to attain high photo-dynamic efficiency achievable only at the higher intensities. In order to estimate the performance of concentrating solar systems, it is necessary to know the intensity of the beam radiation, as only this components can be concentrated, and The new solar system can generate electricity from ultraviolet and infrared light as well as visible light. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has began collecting solar radiation components data since January, 1988, and solar radiation classified wavelength data since November, 2008. KIER's solar radiation components and classified wavelength data will be extensively used by concentrating solar system users or designers as well as by research institutes.

  • The zodiacal light emission is the thermal emission from the interplanetary dust and the dominant diffuse radiation in the mid- to far-infrared wavelength region. Even in the far-infrared, the contribution of the zodiacal emission is not negligible at the region near the ecliptic plane. The AKARI far-infrared all-sky survey covered 97% of the whole sky in four photometric bands with band central wavelengths of 65, 90, 140, and $160{\mu}m$. AKARI detected the small-scale structure of the zodiacal dust cloud, such as the asteroidal dust bands and the circumsolar ring, in far-infrared wavelength region. Although the most part of the zodiacal light structure in the AKARI far-infrared all-sky image can be well reproduced with the DIRBE zodiacal light model, there are discrepancies in the small-scale structures. In particular, the intensity and the ecliptic latitude of the peak position of the asteroidal dust bands cannot be reproduced precisely with the DIRBE models. The AKARI observational data during more than one year has advantages over the 10-month DIRBE data in modeling the full-sky zodiacal dust cloud. The resulting small-scale zodiacal light structure template has been used to subtract the zodiacal light from the AKARI all-sky maps.

  • Photobiomodulation utilizes monochromatic (or quasimonochromatic) light in the electromagnetic region of 600~1000 nm for the treatment of soft tissues in a nondestructive and nonthermal mode. It is conceivable that photobiomodulation is based upon the ability of the light to alter cell metabolism as it is absorbed by general hemoproteins and cytochrome c oxidase (COX) in particular. Recently it has been suggested radiation of visible and infrared (IR) activates retrograde signaling pathway from mitochondria to nucleus. In this review, the role of COX in the photobiomodulation will be discussed. Further a possible role of water as a photoreceptor will be suggested.
