The motivation of this paper is to easily analyze the properties of nondispersive infrared gas sensor that has more than two different optical path length and to suggest the criterion and definition of infrared light absorbance in order to minimize the measurement errors. With the output voltage ratios and the normalized derivatives of infrared ray (IR) absorbance, when the normalized derivatives of IR absorbance decreases from 0.28 to 0.10, the lower and higher limits of errors were decreased from -5.62% and 2.39% to -4.27% and 2.78%. When the normalized derivatives of IR absorbance were 0.10, the output voltage could be partitioned into two regions with one exponential equation and the temperature compensation error was less than 5%.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of the physical and chemical factors on the absorbance when the chemical component of food was rapidly and effectively analyzed with near infrared reflection spectrophotometer. The absorbance was measured within the wavelength range of 1100 and 2500m and at the various sample temperatures. The absorbance was greatly increased with the rising sample temperature. When the grinding time of samples prolonged, the absorbance was decreased. The absorption peaks occurring in the near infrared spectra of meat, meat protein, pork fat and water were attributed to the overtone and combination vibration of C-H, N-H, O-H or C=O bond within the macromolecules of each sample. The absorbance was lower for meat protein than other meat components. Pork fat was characterized by the ${\cdot}CH_2{\cdot}$ absorption peak at the wavelength of 1700 and 2300 nm and water by the relatively high absorption peak at the wavelength of 1450 and 1930 nm. As a result, the absorbance of near infrared reflection spectrum of meat was affected mainly by fat and water in meat.
Nondispersive infrared CO2 gas sensor was developed after the simulation of optical cavity structure and assembling the optical components: IR source, concave reflectors, Fresnel lens, a hollow disk, and IR detectors. By placing a hollow disk in front of reference IR detector, the output voltages are almost constant value, near to 70.2 mV. The absorbance of IR light, Fa, shows the second order of polynomial according to ambient temperatures at 1,500 ppm. The differential output voltages and the absorbance of IR light give a higher accuracy in estimations of CO2 concentrations with less than ± 1.5 % errors. After implementing the parameters that are dependent upon the ambient temperatures in microcontroller unit (MCU), the measured CO2 concentrations show high accuracies (less than ± 1.0 %) from 281 K to 308 K and the time constant of developed sensor is about 58 sec at 301 K. Even though the estimation errors are relatively high at low concentration, the developed sensor is competitive to the commercial product with a high accuracy and the stability.
Thermal evaporated 10 nm-$Ni_{50}Co_{50}$/(70 nm-poly)Si films were deposited to examine the energy saving properties of silicides formed by rapid thermal annealing at temperature ranging from 500 to $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Thermal evaporated 10 nm-Ni/(70 nm-poly)Si films were also deposited as a reference using the same method for depositing the 10 nm-$Ni_{50}Co_{50}$/(70 nm-poly)Si films. A four-point probe was used to examine the sheet resistance. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction XRD were used to determine cross sectional microstructure and phase changes, respectively. UV-VIS-NIR and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) were used to examine the near-infrared (NIR) and middle-infrared (MIR) absorbance. TEM analysis confirmed that the uniform nickel-cobalt composite silicide layers approximately 21 to 55 nm in thickness had formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates as well as on the 25 to 100 nm thick nickel silicide layers. In particular, nickel-cobalt composite silicides showed a low sheet resistance, even after rapid annealing at $1,100^{\circ}C$. Nickel-cobalt composite silicide and nickel silicide films on the single silicon substrates showed similar absorbance in the near-IR region, while those on the polycrystalline silicon substrates showed excellent absorbance until the 1,750 nm region. Silicides on polycrystalline substrates showed high absorbance in the middle IR region. Nickel-cobalt composite silicides on the poly-Si substrates annealed at $1,000^{\circ}C$ superior IR absorption on both NIR and MIR region. These results suggest that the newly proposed $Ni_{50}Co_{50}$ composite silicides may be suitable for applications of IR absorption coatings.
We fabricated thermally evaporated 10 nm-Ni/1 nm-Ir/(poly)Si films to investigate the energy saving property of silicides formed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at the temperature range of $300{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Moreover, we fabricated 100 nm-thick ITO/(poly)Si films with an rf-sputter as references. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) and an X-ray diffractometer were used to determine cross-sectional microstructure and phase changes. A UV-VIS-NIR and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) were employed for near-IR and middle-IR absorbance. Through TEM analysis, we confirmed 20~65 nm-thick silicide layers formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates. Ir-inserted nickel silicide on single crystalline substrate showed almost the same absorbance in near IR region as well as ITO, but Ir-inserted nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate, which had the uniform absorbance in specific region, showed better absorbance in near IR region than ITO. The Ir-inserted nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate particularly showed better absorbance in middle IR region than ITO. The results imply that nano-thick Ir-inserted nickel silicides may have excellent absorbing capacity in near-IR and middle-IR region.

Through TEM analysis, we confirmed $20{\sim}70nm-thick$ silicide layers formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates. Nickel silicides and ITO films on the single silicon substrates showed almost similar absorbance in near-IR region, while nickel silicides on polycrystalline silicon substrate showed superior absorbance above 850 nm near-IR region to ITO films. Nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate also showed better absorbance in middle IR region than ITO. Our result implies that nano-thick nickel silicides may have exellent absorbing capacity in near-IR and middle-IR region.

Au-black for the application of the long wavelength infrared absorber has been prepared by evaporating Au under nitrogen gas-filled low vacuum condition. Characteristics of the deposited Au-black were carefully investigated through structural analysis, infrared absorbance measurement, and patterning of the layer, all of which are dependent on the deposition condition. High density of micro-cavity that trapped infrared were obtained, and infrared absorbance in the wavelength range from 3 $\mu\textrm{g}$ to 14 $\mu\textrm{g}$ was found to be about 90% when the Au-black layer was produced under the deposition condition of mass Per area of about 600 $\mu\textrm{g}$/cm$^{2}$ and chamber pressure of above 1 Torr. Photoresist lift-off process could be performed to pattern the Au-black, of which mass per area was below 900 $\mu\textrm{g}$/cm/ sup 2/. In view of absorbance, heat capacity, and pattern formation, the deposition condition of chamber pressure of about 1 Tow and mass per area of about 600$\mu\textrm{g}$/cm$^{2}$ was most adequate for preparing the Au-black as an infrared absorber.
This study investigates the prediction of soil OM on Korean soils using the Visible-Near Infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy. The ASD Field Spec Pro was used to acquire the reflectance of soil samples to visible to near-infrared radiation (350 to 2500 nm). A total of 503 soil samples from 61 Korean soil series were scanned using the instrument and OM was measured using the Walkley and Black method. For data analysis, the spectra were resampled from 500-2450 nm with 4 nm spacing and converted to the $1^{st}$ derivative of absorbance (log (1/R)). Partial least squares regression (PLSR) and regression rules model (Cubist) were applied to predict soil OM. Regression rules model estimates the target value by building conditional rules, and each rule contains a linear expression predicting OM from selected absorbance values. The regression rules model was shown to give a better prediction compared to PLSR. Although the prediction for Andisols had a larger error, soil order was not found to be useful in stratifying the prediction model. The stratification used by Cubist was mainly based on absorbance at wavelengths of 850 and 2320 nm, which corresponds to the organic absorption bands. These results showed that there could be more information on soil properties useful to classify or group OM data from Korean soils. In conclusion, this study shows it is possible to develop good prediction model of OM from Korean soils and provide data to reexamine the existing prediction models for more accurate prediction.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of the homogenizing grade of sample on absorbance of near infrared reflectance spectrophotometer with which chemical compositions of food were rapidly and effectively analyzed. By the mathematical treatment of absorbance values standard error of prediction was reduced as follows. 1. The absorbance values of various samples ground for the same periods of time were calibrated before or after treatment with first or second derivative in an attempt to accurately predict the components of samples ground for the different periods of time. The standard error of prediction for moisture content were 1.478%, 0.658% and 0.580%, respectively, those for fat content 0.949%, 0.637% and 0.527%, respectively, and those for protein content 0.514%, 0.493% and 0.394%, respectively. Calibration of absorbance values after second derivative treatment showed the highest accuracy in predicting sample components. 2. The absorbance values of various samples ground for the different periods of time were calibrated before or after treatment with first or second derivative in order to accurately predict the components of samples ground for the different periods of time. The standard error of prediction for moisture content were 1.026%, 0.589% and 0.568%, respectively, and those for protein content 0.860%, 0.557% and 0.399%, respectively. The standard error of prediction were lower in the order of calibrations before and after first and second derivative treatments. As a result, calibration of absorbance values after second derivative treatment showed higher accuracy regardless of grinding time of samples.
The MLR(Multiple Linear Regression) models to estimate soluble solids content non-destructively were presented to make a selection of optimal photosensor utilized to measure the soluble solids content of apples. Visible and NIR absorbance in the 400 to 2498 nanometer(nm) wavelength region, soluble solids content(sugar content), hardness, and weight were measured for 400 apples(gala). Spectrophotometer with fiber optic probe was utilized for spectrum measurement and digital refractometer was used for soluble solids content. Correlation between absorbance spectrum and soluble solids content was analyzed to pick out the optimal wavelengths and to develop corresponding prediction model by means of MLR. For the coefficient of determination($R^2$) to be over 0.92, the MLR models out of the original absorbance were built based on 7 wavelengths of 992, 904, 1096, 1032, 880, 824, 1048nm, and the ones of the second derivative absorbance based on 5 wavelengths of 784, 1056, 992, 808, 872nm. The best model of the second derivative absorbance spectrum had $R^2$=0.91, bias= -0.02bx, SEP=0.28bx for unknown samples.
