Exploring Cognitive, Affective, and Physical Aspects of Early Adolescents' Health Information Seeking Behaviors

  • This study reports on early adolescents' health information seeking behaviors that investigated cognitive, affective, and physical aspects of behaviors as they experienced to find information on their needs of health information seeking. In spite of the current widespread internet health information use by adolescents, little research exists to illuminate how they are engaged in cognitive, affective, and physical information behaviors in information search process. Qualitative data were collected through individual interviews informed by Kuhlthau's information search process. Forty adolescents from S city in South Korea participated in the project. Findings report thoughts, feelings, and actions aspects of information search process. This study expects to extend our knowledge of the adolescents' health information seeking behaviors of Kuhlthau's information search process.

이용자의 정보추구행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Information-Seeking Behavior of User)

  • 본 연구는 이용자들이 정보요구를 충족시키기 위해 어떤 미디어를 접촉하고 있으며, 또 어떤 유형의 정보를 선택하고 있는지 미디어 접촉동기와 정보내용의 선택적 추구행동을 분석한 것이다. 이를 위해 교수와 연구원, 교사, 공무원 등 대학생을 포함한 직장 종사자 277명으로부터 회수된 질문지를 속성별로 분석하였다. 분석결과 연구에 대한 새로운 암시나 착상은 교수와 연구직은 학회모임이나 연구활동에서, 기타 직종은 인터넷에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 정보 추구동기와 탐색정보 유형에서는 이용자의 속성에 따라 상당한 차이를 나타내고 있어 추구행동과 속성간에는 매우 밀접한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Patterns of Information Seeking Behaviour of Law Students in Digital Environment: A Study

  • Nowadays the enormous growth of modern information communication technologies and its massive use have influenced information users all over the world. Such a digital environment has drastically changed the information seeking patterns of information users of every community. These also tend law students to use various legal information sources and services in digital environments while seeking information. But there have been few empirical user studies on the aspect of digital information seeking behaviours of law students in either law or library and information science literatures. This paper aims to draw out patterns of information seeking behavior of students of law in digital environments at the University of Dhaka. A stratified random sample survey was conducted for this study. The results show that students prefer the electronic format of information rather than printed format. Major e-resources used by them and the influential factors of use were also identified in this study. This study also identified some crucial problems for seeking information and provides suggestions for the development of electronic legal information systems.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 대학생이 일정한 기간 내에 과제를 수행하기 위해 정보를 추구하는 과정이라는 한정된 맥락에서 보이는 개별적인 감정과 행태의 특성을 발견하는 것이다. 과제 수행이라는 일종의 강제된, 동일한 맥락에서 개별적, 선택적으로 발생하는 개개인의 정보추구를 보다 깊이 이해하고자 시도하였다. 데이터는 문헌정보학 전공 4학년생 54명이 서술한 자기보고서를 내용 분석함으로서 수집하였고, 주요한 발견을 정보추구의 상황 인식과 감정, 정보추구의 장애요인, 정보추구의 과정과 전략 및 정보원의 이용이라는 측면에서 분석하였다.

소비자들의 인터넷 쇼핑가치에 따른 관계품질 및 구매행동특성 - 의류제품 구매를 중심으로 - (The Characteristics of Relational Quality and Buying Behavior Depending on Consumer's Internet Shopping Value - Focused on Clothing Purchase -)

  • This study aims to find out the dimension of consumers' shopping values in internet clothing purchase, and the relation of their relational quality with shopping malls and their shopping behavior depending on the type of their shopping values. For this purpose, this study surveyed 343 male and female consumers in their 20s or 30s for empirical analysis who have ever purchased clothing through internet shopping malls. Respondents are selected using the convenience sampling through internet survey in July 2008. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and $X^2$-test are carried out using SPSS for Windows 12.0. The results are as follows. First, consumers' shopping value dimensions in internet shopping for clothes are found 4 factors of fun, economic utility, information, and shopping convenience. Second, based on shopping value dimensions, consumers are categorized into an practicality-seeking, an economic utility/fun-seeking, a fun-seeking, and an information/fun-seeking group. Third, there are significant differences in relational quality, customer loyalty, favorable word of mouth, and repurchase intention depending on shopping value-based consumer types. In particular, the economic utility/fun-seeking and information/fun-seeking group have higher values on relational quality and shopping behavior variables than other groups. Thus internet shopping mall businesses need to recognize these group of consumers as their core customers and develop programs to maintain a long-term relationship with them.

건강 앱 이용자들의 단계적 건강행위변화와 정보탐색행태 (Stages of Change to Health Behavior and Health Information-Seeking Behavior of Health Application Users)

  • 본 연구는 모바일 건강 애플리케이션을 활용하여 건강행위를 변화시키는 건강정보소비자 들이 그 역동적인 단계적 변화에 따라 추구하는 건강정보 탐색행태를 관찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 변화단계모형(Stages of change)을 이론적 틀로 사용하여 각 단계에서 나타나는 건강정보소비자들의 인식, 정보요구 및 탐색행태의 변화를 분석하였다. 본 연구에는 총 30명의 대학생 이용자들이 참여하여 3개월 동안 건강 애플리케이션을 사용하면서 금연, 금주, 및 규칙적 운동 등의 건강행위의 변화를 시도하였으며, 그들의 경험을 바탕으로 서면인터뷰를 실시하였다. 연구결과에 따르면, 연구 참여자들은 소셜 미디어와 인터넷을 포함하여 다양한 정보원을 사용할 뿐 아니라 정보요구에 따라 상이한 정보원을 탐색했다. 특히, 실행단계에 접어든 소비자들의 본격적인 건강 앱 활용에서 나타나는 정보요구와 정보탐색행태는 특별히 건강 앱을 통한 건강정보서비스의 함의를 시사한다. 또한, 행위변화를 시행하면서 경험하는 스트레스 관리와 퇴보(relapse), 그리고 행위변화의 긍정적 및 부정적 효과는 건강정보제공자에게 소비자의 건강행위변화를 지원할 수 있는 통찰력을 제공한다.

Information Needs and Information Seeking Behavior of Foreign Students in University of Delhi: A Survey

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the information needs and information seeking behavior of foreign students. A survey method was used for the undertaken study. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire, self-administered to 120 foreign students (60 males & 60 females) with 88 (47 males & 41 females) returns. The research is limited to post-graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. foreign students in University of Delhi. It was found that post-graduate students need information regarding their program of study while research scholars need information for writing research articles and for doing their research work. Most of them seek information through the internet. Research scholars used electronic resources such as databases, e-journals and e-theses and dissertations. 88.6% of the respondents also use books for seeking information. Their use of the library is limited with complaints about library staff and too few computer terminals. The present study will be helpful in designing new systems and services for the foreign students so that their information needs can be fulfilled easily. Further, findings of the study indicate that how the library professionals should assist foreign students to accomplish their information needs.

20-30대 중국여성들의 20-30 외모효능인식, 이상적 외모추구행동과 의복이미지 선호도 간의 관련성 연구 (A Study on the Relationship Between the Cognition of Appearance Effectiveness, Ideal Appearance Behavior and Clothing Image Preference for Chinese Females in Their 20-30s)

  • This study conducts a survey based on 425 Chinese females in their twenties to thirties in order to examine the relevance between the cognitions of appearance effectiveness, ideal appearance seeking behavior and clothing image preference which have effects on their self-identity and interpersonal relations. The results of this study are as follows ; First, from the factor analysis for cognition of appearance effectiveness, and ideal appearance seeking behavior, a total of 4 factors such as psychological benefits, social benefits factors, pursuit of plastic surgery and pursuit of beauty treatment are being were drawn. As a result, there are significant correlations between heights of demographic variables and the cognition of appearance effectiveness, together with the ideal appearance seeking behavior. Respondents with higher heights represent the higher cognitions of appearance effectiveness, while the respondents with lower heights show more pursuits of beauty treatment behavior to reach the ideal image. Second, factor analysis of the clothing images are 4 factors such as classic-trendy, natural-dynamic, casual-formal, and masculine-feminine images. There are significant correlations between the four factors from clothing preference images and four factors from the cognition of appearance effectiveness, and ideal appearance seeking behavior. This suggests that higher social status such as job, income, residential district, and age among the demographic factors has greater effects on the clothing image preference.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 인터넷의 등장과 디지털 정보자원의 급증으로 변화하는 과학 기술 정보 환경에서 KISTI의 과학 기술 정보이용자의 정보수요와 정보추구 행태를 분석, 기술하는 것이다. 국내 산 학 연의 과학 기술정보이용자들에게 우편 배포한 설문에서 수집된 결과는 다양한 이용자층을 위한 과학 기술정보와 원문에 대한 개인 및 기관정보원을 위한 전문정보원이며 중개기관으로서의 KISTI의 역할 및 이용자의 수요에 기반한 서비스와 장서의 개발 방향을 재조명하였다. 주요한 발견은 과학 기술분야의 최근 및 영어권 학술지와 학회 회의자료등의 "on demand" 원문 수요, DDS의 개선과 확장에 대한 기대, 입수가 어려운 과학 기술 정보자원의 종합적인 수집 보존 유통 기능의 확장 필요 등을 포함하였다.

Factors Related to Cancer Information Scanning and Seeking Behavior among High School Students in Korea

  • Objective: This paper aimed to determine the relationship between cancer information scanning and seeking experience of adolescents and cancer preventive behavior, perceived cancer risk, and levels of cancer-related knowledge. Methods: The study sample comprised 1,000 second-year students from 6 high schools: the general and vocational school systems were each represented by 1 boys', 1 girls', and 1 coeducational high school. In July 2011, trained researchers visited each classroom, explained the purpose of the study, distributed questionnaires to the students who agreed to participate, instructed them to complete the survey by self-reporting, and collected the completed questionnaires. Results: The students who attended general high schools (as compared with vocational high schools), earned higher grades, consumed more vegetables, had a higher perceived cancer risk, and answered the cancer-related questions more correctly had more cancer information scanning and seeking experience. Conclusion: These results reinforce the importance of cancer prevention health education. Furthermore, the results may help in preparing a strategy that enables people to acquire accurate cancer-related information easily and quickly.
