  • Many organizations experience that the Performance they gained from IT portfolio is lower than they expected values. As with any investment, executives are concerned with maximizing the performance from their investment in IT. This study focused on the relationship or fit between orientations of IT strategy and directions of IT portfolio to maximize IT performance. A field survey of chief information officers of Korea manufacturing sector was conducted in 2003. Complete data of 147 firms was analyzed to determine relationship among the three research constructs that are orientations of IT strategy, directions IT portfolio, and IT performance. In this study, the orientations of IT strategy have two dimensions that are operation orientation and market orientation. The directions of IT portfolio have two dimension that are internal system focused and external system focused. And the IT performance has divided into operational performance and competitive performance. As a result of this study, the companies that are putting a focus with operation orientation were concentrated on internal information systems than external information systems. On the other hand, the other companies that are focused on market orientation were concentrated on external information systems than internal information systems. Consequently, the companies that are focused on operation orientation were operational performance higher than competitive performance and the other companies that are focused on market orientation were competitive performance higher than operational performance. More importantly, the research results provide empirical evidence that supports the hypothesis related to closer fit between IT strategy and IT portfolio does lead to increase operational and competitive performance of IT. And the results emphasize manager's efforts of fit between orientations of IT strategy and directions of IT portfolio to be realized IT performance.

  • The purpose of study is to understand the home management strategy to cope with rapid changing environments and to verify that how personal value orientation affect home management strategy. The research results are summarized below. First, variables that affect the value orientation of Korean urbanite are sex, area of dwelling, degree of information using and degree of stress recognition in case of material orientation, degree of information using in case of environmental orientation, academic career, sex, degree of information using, degree of stress recognition in cases of fate control orientation, number of children, sex, degree of information using in case of equilibrium orientation, sex, degree of stress recognition in case of present orientation and academic career, degree of stress recognition in case of individualistic orientation. Second, value orientation variables that affect overall home management strategy of Korean urbanite are material orientation, environmental orientation, fate control orientation and individualistic orientation. Third, variables that affect overall home management strategy of Korean urbanite are age, academic career, degree of information using, degree of stress recognition, perception level of living relative to others, environmental orientation and fate control orientation and it is shown that degree of information using is domineering variable.

  • This study explores the feasibility of our proposed disaster and safety record information archiving strategy and determines several problems encountered during actual operations. For practical experiments, 55 disaster and safety related organizations are selected and the detailed steps of our archiving strategy are implemented. Based on the real disaster and safety record information acquisition results, we analyzed the challenges of the proposed strategy. Furthermore, we suggested the improvements plans in terms of policy, technical, managerial, and service-oriented so as to become a more realistic strategy.

  • Coping with the rapid change of competition in retail industry, retail firms have dreamed various differentiation strategy to obtain their added value and their life. And they have considered CRM strategy that can differentiate with other retail firms in order to develop some new differentiation factors. So we searched new factors that is best for "T store" and found CRM strategy such as the optimization for product portfolio considering private-brand products and the optimization for product display for customer demands. This study is meaningful in that it has suggested a new CRM strategy model, which can manage new various differentiation factors of a retail firms considering its core competence. We verified and altered retail firm's business model using system dynamics. By simulation results, CRM strategy need long time to obtain visible and satisfactory performance of "T store".

  • According to literature review, fitness between IT activities and organizational strategy enhances performance. Theoretical research says that centralized company in IT activities is appropriate to cost-leadership strategy and decentralized company in IT activities is appropriate to differentiation strategy. But there are very few empirical research. The purpose of this study is to attest whether fitness between IT activities and organizational strategy enhances the information system performance. But the results of this field study were not consistent with literature that fitness of two independent variables enhance performance. So we should take other contingency variables such as organizational structure, culture etc. into consideration to investigate relationship between IT activities and strategy.

  • This paper is aimed to propose an testing and evaluation strategy and plan in Military Information Systems, especially focusing on development an“New-generation Wargame Model”. Through this research, we concluded that the effective and efficient testing/evaluation strategy/plan can aid the productivity, maintainability, availability, etc., of the Militray Information Systems. Highlights of the proposed testing and evaluation strategy and plan for Military Information Systems are as follows. First, in the unit and module integration testing phase, hybrid of black-box and white-box testing techniques are available for Military Information Systems and progressive approach for module integration phase should be considered because of the complexity. Second, in the system testing phase, integrated module should be tested with respect to the function and performance that should be satisfied with the user requirements, specifications, risk analysis, etc., Third, in the acceptance testing phase, reliability, interoperability, maintainability, availability, integrity, etc., must be considered in the actual or mini-operational environments for testing efficiently and effectively.

  • ERP system is a very popular tool for pushing management innovation and implementing an integrated information system. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship among the structure of production systems, types of implementation strategy, relative importance of competitive goals, information technology and culture level, and the efficiency from using the system. The data for this study were collected from 45 Korean manufacturing firms that have implemented ERP system. Research results confirm that the success factors include the top managements' strategic views and culture level related to new information technology. But the linkage between the structure of production systems and types of implementation strategy is proved to be very weak. Also control effect of types of implementation strategy on the efficiency of the organization is not strongly recognized. A summarized report of other findings is provided as well.

  • With the increasing use of the Internet improved Internet technologies as well as web-based applications, the uses of e-Learning have also increased the effectiveness of e-Learning has become one of the most practically and theoretically important issues in both Educational Engineering and Information Systems. This study suggests a research model, based on an e-Learning success model, the relationship of the e-learner's self-regulated learning strategy and the quality perception of the e-Learning environment. This research model focuses on the learning environment and on the learners' self-efficacy. The former consists of LMS, learning contents and interaction that are provided by e-Learning and the latter refers to the learners' self-regulated learning strategy. In this study, academic performance was measured by student's real record. We will show the validity of the model empirically, and most of the hypotheses suggested in this model were accepted.

  • According to the analysis results, first, the purpose of information system is usually internal-oriented (decrease of employees and increase of productivity) in the port-logistics industry. Second, the success factor of information system for internal strategy group is different for its external strategy group. Third, the external enviornment factors affect on the information strategy and the success factor in the port-logistics industry. Therefore, I think that it is necessary for the port-logistics industry to consider the information strategy direction and its affecting factors in the port-MIS.
