  • With the rapid growth of the World Wide Web and electronic information services, information is becoming available on-Line at an incredible rate. One result is the oft-decried information overload. No one has time to read everything, yet we often have to make critical decisions based on what we are able to assimilate. The technology of automatic text summarization is becoming indispensable for dealing with this problem. Text summarization is the process of distilling the most important information from a source to produce an abridged version for a particular user or task. Information retrieval(IR) is the task of searching a set of documents for some query-relevant documents. On the other hand, text summarization is considered to be the task of searching a document, a set of sentences, for some topic-relevant sentences. In this paper, we show that document information, that is more reliable and suitable for query, using document length normalization of which is gained through information retrieval . Experimental results of this system in newspaper articles show that document length normalization method superior to other methods use query itself.

  • Consumer information influences purchasing behavior; however, less is known about the relationship in the credit market. Credit markets offer consumers a complex array of different products when choosing mortgages. The current study examines whether borrowers search for the very best terms when making major decisions about borrowing money or obtaining credit as well as explores the relation between consumer information seeking and the cost of credit. This study demonstrates the existence of price dispersion between those who made an extensive information seeking and those who did not. When controlling for the proxies of creditworthiness and demographics of the respondents, it is found that those who made a great deal of information seeking tend to have lower mortgage rates than those who made almost no information seeking. This study offers financial educators and policy makers suggestions on how to help consumers make better financial decisions.

  • The recent keyword advertising does not reflect the individual customer searching pattern because it is focused on each keyword at the aggregate level. The purpose of this research is to observe processes of customer searching patterns. To be specific, individual deal-proneness is mainly concerned. This study incorporates location as a control variable. This paper examines the relationship between customers' searching patterns and probability of purchase. A customer searching session, which is the collection of sequence of keyword queries, is utilized as the unit of analysis. The degree of deal-proneness is measured using customer behavior which is revealed by customer searching keywords in the session. Deal-proneness measuring function calculates the discount of deal prone keyword leverage in accordance with customer searching order. Location searching specificity function is also calculated by the same logic. The analyzed data is narrowed down to the customer query session which has more than two keyword queries. The number of the data is 218,305 by session, which is derived from Internet advertising agency's (COMAS) advertisement managing data and the travel business advertisement revenue data from advertiser's. As a research result, there are three types of the deal-prone customer. At first, there is an unconditional active deal-proneness customer. It is the customer who has lower deal-proneness which means that he/she utilizes deal-prone keywords in the last phase. He/she starts searching a keyword like general ones and then finally purchased appropriate products by utilizing deal-prone keywords in the last time. Those two types of customers have the similar rates of purchase. However, the last type of the customer has middle deal-proneness; who utilizes deal-prone keywords in the middle of the process. This type of a customer closely gets into the information by employing deal-prone keywords but he/she could not find out appropriate alternative then would modify other keywords to look for other alternatives. That is the reason why the purchase probability in this case would be decreased Also, this research confirmed that there is a loyalty effect using location searching specificity. The customer who has higher trip loyalty for specificity location responds to selected promotion rather than general promotion. So, this customer has a lower probability to purchase.

  • The utilization of underground space has recently increased with the complication of road, the rise of the land price, and the development of green technology. Underground space ranges from classical excavations to subway, underground cities, and shopping malls where there are crowds of people. At this time, government has spent a lot of money in installing various types of safety facilities for preparations of increasing potential disasters. Therefore, an effective facility management system is required. In this paper, we propose an information retrieval process to effectively extract the facilities' information based on the ontology and spatial analysis in underground space. The ontology-based searching supports hierarchical and associated results as well as knowledge sharing with hierarchy concepts. The spatial analysis based searching has "Buffer" and "Near" functions to operate on a map without understanding any property of the facility information.

  • The purpose of this study is to review information services in public libraries based on web sites. Four evaluation criteria. interface. searching, contents and communication are usually used to measure web sites. Because interface and searching are contained hardware elements, these are not included to this review. For this study contents and communication are examined into operating at public libraries web sites. Also analyzed is gateway function providing community information services and researchers information.

  • Hypermedia system supports associative linking concept for multimedia information using link and node concept, and overcomes the limitations of database system and text retrieval system in some application areas. This study shows the design and implementation of a hypermedia system which supports text, graphics, image and voice /sound information. This system has been designed to integrate the browsing and searching functions of the hypermedia system for efficient multimedia information retrieval and user-interface. To demonstrate the function and capability of the system, an application was made in the area of Bible and related information.

  • This study is to review information retrieval techniques of VOCED database. The VOCED database contains internationally relevant information on vocational and adult education, training and related subjects. The software used is CDS/ISIS and the records are indexed using the APSDEP Thesaurus. When searching the VOCED database, various types of search techniques can be used. Multiple word, phrase, boolean logic, term truncation, defind field, and proximity searching techniques or a mixture of all of them, make it possible to find exactly what you want in seconds.

  • Since the World-Wide Web (WWW) has become a major channel for information delivery, information overload also has become a serious problem to the Internet users. Therefore, effective information searching is critical to the success of Internet services. We present an integrated search engine for searching relevant web pages on the WWW in a certain Internet domain. It supports a local search on the web sites. The spider obtains all of the web pages from the web sites through web links. It operates autonomously without any human supervision. We developed state transition diagram to control navigation and analyze link structure of each web site. We have implemented an integrated local search engine and it shows that a higher satisfaction is obtained. From the user evaluation, we also find that higher precision is obtained.

  • Innovation is no longer the purview of high-tech industries; it is blossoming in the home appliances and cosmetics sectors. However, consumers' anxiety about the risk of new products prevents them from reaping the benefits of innovation. This anxiety is driven by customer's lack of prior information on new products. This study examines how difference age between the chronological age of consumers and their cognitive age affects consumers' willingness to search for information on innovative products, leading to reduced new-product anxiety. According to a survey of participants who actually bought an innovative product, we found that participants searched for more information when they perceived themselves to be younger than their chronological age (a high difference age). Where participants did not proactively search for information (due to a low difference age), they could be encouraged to do this through marketing campaigns. Together, these findings expand our understanding of how consumers' difference age can be leveraged in digital marketing to enable companies to more strategically reach consumers when planning or launching innovative products.

  • Bulletin board systems have evolved to support diverse multimedia data as well as text. However, current board systems have an weakness : it takes much time and efforts for users to figure out contents of articles. Most board systems provide a searching function with lexical level data access for solving that problem, however it fails to serve users' intented searching results. Moreover, it is nearly impossible to search proper articles if they contain multimedia data. This paper proposed a bulletin board system adopting the Semantic Web to solve this issue. The proposed system provides users with new ontology which is used for describing articles' domain knowledge and multimedia features. Users can describe their own board ontology using the proposed ontology. To support semantic-based searching for diverse domain knowledge without modification of the system, the system dynamically generated input/query interface and RDF data access module according to the board ontology written by administrators. The proposed board system shows that semantic-based searching is feasible and effective for users to find their intended articles.
