  • The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between lumber Herniated Nuclesus Pulposus of specific part and fat infiltration in paraspinal muscle. Also we intended to find the relationship between Body Mass Index(BMI) and fat infiltration ratio in the lumber paraspinal muscle based on the sexes of patients. We conducted this study of patients who visited our hospital from May, 2010 to May, 2012. The subjects are composed of 40 patients(20 females and 20 males), who are 30 to 50 years old suffering from severe lumber herniated nuclesus pulposus, who had or were going to have operation treatment. BMI is measured through anthropometry of each patient and fat infiltration inside the muscle is estimated by measuring the cross section area of lumbar paraspinal muscle from mid-cross section of disc(L2-S1) and fat infiltration ratio. The data of this study are analyzed by independent t-test to figure out the difference of fat infiltration between male and female, and by paired sample T-test after getting mean and standard deviation to find the changes of fat infiltration of lumbar on each level. Also correlation analysis is done by setting age as a control variable to find the correlation between BMI and fat infiltration of the whole lumbar. As a result, we could get only the meaningful difference between the sexes on upper lumber part(L2-L3) while we couldn't find any significant difference in the rest of lumbar(L3-S1). Besides, the changes of fat infiltration ratio on each lumbar level increased rapidly from lumbar 3,4 to lumbar 4,5. We also found that there is no correlation between fat infiltration ratio of lumbar paraspinal muscle(L2-S1) and BMI.

  • In this study, bioelectrical impedance analysis, which has been used to assess an alteration in intracellular fluid (ICF) of the body, was applied to detect intravenous infiltration. The experimental results are described as follows. Firstly, when infiltration occurred, the resistance gradually decreased with time and frequency i.e., the resistance decreased with increasing time, proportional to the amount of infiltrated intravenous (IV) solution. At each frequency, the resistance gradually decreased with time, indicating the IV solution (also blood) accumulated in the extracellular fluid (ECF) (including interstitial fluid). Secondly, the resistance ratio started to increase at infiltration, showing the highest value after 1.4 min of infiltration, and gradually decreased thereafter. Thirdly, the impedance ($Z_C$) of cell membrane decreased significantly (especially at 50 kHz) during infiltration and gradually decreased thereafter. Fourthly, Cole-Cole plot indicated that the positions of (R, $X_C$) shifted toward left owing to infiltration, reflecting the IV solution accumulated in the ECF. The resistance ($R_0$) at zero frequency decreased continuously over time, indicating that it is a vital impedance parameter capable of detecting early infiltration during IV infusion. Finally, the mechanism of the current flowing through the ECF, cell membrane, and ICF in the subcutaneous tissues was analyzed as a function of time before and after infiltration, using an equivalent circuit model of the human cell. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the infiltration could be detected early using these impedance parameters during the infusion of IV solution.

  • In this paper a numerical model and two analytical models in the hydraulically connected stream-aquifer system were analyzed to compare the induced infiltration rate curves derived from each model. And we also examined the effects of anisotropy of hydraulic conductivity and the direction of the ambient ground water flow on the quantification of the induced infiltration rate. The induced infiltration rate curve determined by models is very simple and useful for estimating the induced infiltration rate since it contains only four physical variables such as the induced infiltration rate, the pumping rate, the distance between the pumping well and the stream, and the ambient ground water flow rate. Under the conditions tested in this paper the induced infiltration rate curves resulted from the Wilson's analytical model and FEWA numerical model were in good agreement, and the anisotropic ratio of hydraulic conductivity was evaluated as a physical factor which influences the behaviour of the induced infiltration rate curve. The methods and results of the paper might Icad to improve the understanding of the induced infiltration phenomenon and can be applied to the planning and disign of pumping well and the optimal determination of the induced infiltration rate and pumping rate for water quality management of the water supply wells.

  • SiC and its composites have been considered for use as nuclear fuel cladding materials of pressurized light water reactors. In this study, a $SiC_f$/SiC composite as a constituent layer of SiC triplex fuel cladding was fabricated using a chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process in which tubular SiC fiber preforms were prepared using a filament winding method. To enhance the matrix density of the composite layer, winding patterns, deposition temperature, and gas input ratio were controlled. Fiber arrangement and porosity were the main parameters influencing densification behaviors. Final density of the composites decreased as the SiC fiber volume fraction increased. The CVI process was optimized to densify the tubular preforms with high fiber volume fraction at a high $H_2$/MTS ratio of 20 at $1000^{\circ}C$; in this process, surface canning of the composites was effectively retarded.

  • The TiC-(Ni/Ti) composites were prepared by reaction bonding between TiC preforms and the melted mixture of Ni/Ti metal the atomic ratio of which were the ranges of 0.3 to 3. And their microstructures phase composi-tions and mechanical properties were investigated. During reaction bonding Ni/Ti metal mixture had a good wettability an permeability with TiC preforms and pore-free and fully dense sintered bodies were fabricated. TiC particle shape changed from spherical to angular platelet-like and grain size was grown with Ni/Ti atomic ratio increasing from 0.3 to 1. whereas grain growth of TiC particle was restrained and its shape changed gain from angular platelet-like to spherical when Ni/Ti atomic ratio was more than 2. Maximum bending strength and fracture toughness were obtained at the Ni/Ti atomic ratio being 1 their values were 582 MPa and 11.1 MPa.m1/2 respectively.

  • This research was to estimate quantitative infiltration volume of permeable block which is one of runoff reduction infiltration facilities. In this research, the permeable block experiments estimating infiltration volume for 50, 100, 150, 200 mm/hr rainfall intensity were carried out and hydraulic experiments results were compared with numerical simulation output to produce feasibility of numerical simulation. Final infiltration capacity analysis of permeable block hydraulic experiments reveals that every estimated infiltration volume before runoff beginning was above approximately 300.0 l despite rapid reduction of infiltration ratio and runoff initiation time were occurred in every rainfall intensity. Statistical calculation for coefficient of determination based on cumulative infiltration volume of hydraulic experiment and numerical simulation resulted in a high correlationship as $0.958{\sim}0.996$.

  • This study was carried out to obtain quantities of infiltration, inflow and exfiltration on sewer pipes of three areas at a small city. From the results, the most investigated sewer pipes should be infiltrated by underground water and undetermined water. Flowrate commonly showed two peak at 6 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and which may be influenced by the sewer flowrate with washing or bathing time. BOD/TN ratio of below 4.0 were inferior as compared with proper criteria 5.1. Infiltration/inflow rates of three areas were 21.7% and $0.08m^3/km$ of A, 12.4% and $0.015m^3/km$ of B, 22.4% and $0.021m^3/km$ of C, respectively. This indicates that infiltration/inflow rate of A was obviously greater than that of B and C. Also, these results show that we can conduct sewer maintenance in good order as A, C and B zone.

  • Until today, rainwater management was processed without disposing the peak discharge, which was due to rainfall, to provide stability against flood damage. In this process, the natural hydrologic cycle changed quickly, and because of this, some problems that could harm human beings and the environment arose. These problems need to be addressed accordingly. One of the proposals was to carry out decentralized rainwater management through a natural hydrologic cycle on site, including utilization, infiltration, detention, and retention of rainwater. This study aims to set the direction of applicable decentralized rainwater management to housing complex in Korea. Therefore, spacial properties in urban housing complexes were analysed such as the impervious area-to-land ratio, the green area-to-land ratio, artificial land-to-land ratio etc. As the result of this study, when a housing complex was small and developed by reconstruction, the impervious area, artificial land, the green area in the artificial land-to-land ratio were high. So, direction of decentralized rainwater management of these housing complexes is available to utilize and detain rainwater. On the other hand, those of big housing complexes in land development district were low relatively. So, direction of decentralized rainwater management of these housing complexes is available to infiltrate and evaporate rainwater.

  • The effects of the fiber direction, specimen size and temperature on the compressive strength of carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide composite (C/SiC composite) manufactured by liquid silicon infiltration(LSI) is investigated. Tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM C 695 at room temperature and elevated temperatures. Experiments are conducted with two different specimens considering grain direction. With grain (W/G) specimens have a carbon fibers parallel to the load direction, but across grain (A/G) specimens have a perpendicular carbon fibers. To verify the specimen size effect of C/SiC composite, two types of specimens are manufactured. One has a one to two ratio of diameter to height and the other has a one to one ratio. The compressive strength of C/SiC composite increased as temperature rise. As specimens are larger, compressive strength of A/G specimens increased, however compressive strength of W/G decreased.

  • In this paper, in order to analyse the variation of runoff characteristics depending upon installation of the groundwater recharge facilities, the experiment basin was prepared and the ratio of infiltration and runoff volume were observed in the rainfall events. For the rainfall analysis, 4 types of rainfall events were examined during July 11${\sim}$July 17, 2004. The results show that the mean ratio of infiltration was 89.39% and the mean ratio of runoff was 10.61%. For the artificial rainfall events, which are in the range of rainfall intensities between 60mm/hr and 100mm/hr, all the rainfall volume was infiltrated through the groundwater recharging basin. However, it is necessary to be careful for the long term rainfall, the runoff can be occurred based on the groundwater table.
