  • This study explores changes of industrial scales and building activities in the semi-industrial area of Seoul's Seong-su, responding to the shifts of industrial structures and policies in the Korean society. The purpose of this study is to investigate patterns of construction activities of factory buildings in the Seong-su semi-industrial area by analyzing changes in industrial facilities. As a result of the analysis, the change of the factory building area come out from the recent survey implies the possibility of entrepreneurial inflow as much and the new constructions and some remodeling cases which are characterized by complexity seem to correspond to the industrial structure. However, it is unreasonable to believe that this phenomenon is a mainstream movement involving small-scale factory buildings and companies. This is because there are aspects that are not included in this movement, such as changing the use of buildings without accompanying physical changes. On the other hand, compared to various movements of individual companies in response to the industrial structure, the physical plan suggests a limited alternative centering on the floor area ratio and the building area ratio. This means that the efforts to attract and grow the power of knowledge based-industry through the designation of the Industrial Development Promotion District in part of the case sites, overlook the natural change through remodeling and reuse of existing buildings. In addition, considering the fact that the production space of industrial use can be greatly influenced by the behavior of users compared to general buildings such as residential and commercial, it is necessary to pay attention to various phenomena occurring in the area more locally than the uniform supply policy. Based on these findings, this study contributes to illuminate the legal system related to building act in the Seong-su semi-industrial area and the potential direction of architectural suggestions in related policies and researches.

  • This study assessed the characteristic of BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene) concentration ratios of industrial emission sources and the neighborhoods of industrial area, fuel such as gasoline, light oil, LPG, and similar gasoline, and ambient air in Daegu. The BTEX in aromatic compounds was the most abundant VOC in Daegu. The BTEX ratios were (0.2:2.6:1.0:1.8) for the neighborhoods of industrial area, (2.6:11.3:1.0:1.2) for residential area, (2.2:11.0:1.0:1.6) for commercial area, (1.0:14.9:1.0:1.3) for industrial area, and (0.2:2.6:1.0:1.8) for the neighborhoods of industrial area. Average BTEX ratios in Daegu were B/T ratio (0.1), B/EB ratio (1.5), B/X ratio (1.1), T/EB ratio (12.6), T/X ratio (10), EB/X ratio (0.7), Expecially, B/T ratio in Daegu was similar as the other cities, Bangkok, Manila, and Hongkong. Comparing other cities with B/T ratio, the main sources of VOC were vehicular exhaust and emission of industrial facilities. Furthermore, BTEX correlation were evaluated at the emission sources and regional areas. Results showed that correlation coefficient values of emission sources, fuels and neighborhood of industry were significant magnitude above 0.65(p<0.01). Also, there showed highly significant correlations among BTEX. Calculated correlation coefficients of ambient air sampling sites were $0.61{\sim}0.954$ for commercial /residential area and $0.613{\sim}0.998$ for industrial area. However, they showed different correlation between commercial/residental area and industrial area. It implied that the emission sources were different from each area.

  • An efficient heuristic for two-vehicle-one-depot problems is developed in this research. Vehicle moving speeds are various along hour based time intervals due to traffic jams of rush hours. Two different heuristics are examined. One is that the delivery area assignment is made using Sweep algorithm for two vehicles by splitting the whole area in half to equally divide all delivery points. The other is using common area by leaving unassigned area between the assigned for two vehicles. The common area is reassigned by two stages to balance the completion time of two vehicle's delivery. The heuristic with common area performed better than the other due to various vehicle moving speeds and traffic jams.

  • In this study, we investigated the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Shiwha area and compared the characteristics of both industrial area and residential area. The passive samplers were set 6 times each for a month in 21 locations at industrial and residential area to obtain 6 VOCs including benzene, trichlorobenzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene and stylene. Above all, toluene was the most abundant VOCs in the ambient air both in industrial and residential area. Average TVOC concentration of industrial area was 1.86 times higher than that of residential area, and it was greatly reduced in winter compared with summer. Furthermore, the average BTEX concentrations showed that all concentrations of industrial area were 1.94~5.39 times higher than those of residential area except benzene which were similar to each other. In winter, the concentration of ethyl benzene and xylene were significantly decreased by comparing with summer: but benzene concentrations were increased. Also, BTEX relative ratio was as follows: toluene>benzene>ethylbenzene>xylene. Correlation coefficients among VOCs were confirmed that VOCs in ambient air of industrial area were generally more related to each other than that of residential area. On the whole, the concentrations of VOCs in industrial area were higher, and it seems to be potential that industrial area affects the distribution of VOCs to residential area.

  • In order to investigate the concentration of trace metals in human hairs from residents living in urban area and rural area, the 120 hair samples of adults were taken from urban areas(industrial area, bus terminal, downtown area) and rural area(Kasan-ri, Yeoju-up, Yeoju-goon) during July - September 1995. Mean concentrations of trace metals including lead and cadmium in human hair were compared by region, sex, presence of smoker, type of water, period of residence. The results were as follows; 1. The average concentrations of lead and cadmium in hairs of urban area are $0.92{\mu}g/g$ ($1.01{\mu}g/g$ industrial area, $1.01{\mu}g/g$ bus terminal, $0.74{\mu}g/g$ downtown area), $0.38{\mu}g/g$ ($0.54{\mu}g/g$ industrial area, $0.49{\mu}g/g$ bus terminal, $0.12{\mu}g/g$ downtown area). The mean concentrations of lead and cadmium in urban area are higher than the corresponding levels in the rural area. 2. Lead concentration for male in the urban and rural area is 0.94 and $0.62{\mu}g/g$, 0.90 and $0.60{\mu}g/g$ for female. But, It does not have any statistical significance. Cadmium concentration for male in the urban and rural area is 0.38 and $0.12{\mu}g/g$, 0.38 and $0.11{\mu}g/g$ for female. But It does not have any statistical significance. 3. Mean concentrations of lead and cadmium in smokers shows higher than non-smokers. It showed that the longer period of residence in urban area, the higher concentrations of three metals.
