  • Individuals with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) have difficulty inferring other people's feelings from their facial expressions and/or from situational cues, and therefore, they are less able to respond with prosocial behavior. We developed a computer-based training program to help teach the connection between facial-based or situation-based emotions and prosocial behavioral responses. An 8-year-old male school child with ASD participated in the study. In this program, he was trained to identify persons in need of help and appropriate prosocial responses using novel photo-based scenarios. When he misidentified emotions from photographs of another's face, the program highlighted those parts of the face which effectively communicate emotion. To increase the likelihood that he would learn a generalized repertoire of emotional understanding, multiple examples of emotional expressions and situations were provided. When he misidentified persons expressing a need for help, or failed to identify appropriate helping behaviors, role playing was used to help him appreciate the state of mind of a person in need of help. The results of the training indicated increases in prosocial behaviors during a laboratory task that required collaborative work. His homeroom teacher, using a behavioral rating scale, reported that he now understood another's emotion or situation better than before training. These findings indicate the effects of the training are not limited to the artificial experiment situation, but also carried over to his school life.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between high school teachers' grit and stress coping strategies and to understand differences in stress coping strategies by cluster types of grit. 226 in-service teachers participated in the survey who took the professional development program in the national educational training institute. Results are as follows. First, perseverance of effort in grit was the positively independent variable toward task-oriented and emotion-oriented strategies. The avoidance-oriented strategy was negatively influenced by consistency of interest in grit. Also, the clusters of high grit and high perseverance of effort in grit showed higher means in task-oriented and emotion-oriented strategies than the cluster of low grit. Finally, researchers discussed the importance of strengthening high school teachers' grit for them to cope with job stress effectively.

Hence it is required to help teachers plan lessons of the mathematics project inquiry subject. For this study, developing directions and objectives are established. Ten hours of lesson plan and teaching and learning materials are also developed for the two themes of 'big data' and 'industrial mathematics'. Suitability and validity of the developed material are verified positively from a survey of 8 teachers and 2 professionals. The detailed result findings are as follows. First, teaching and learning notes are suggested for each lesson plan. They are comprised of building inquiry plan, doing inquiry, summarizing results, and presentation. Second, driving questions of each theme are developed as "What is the big data and where is it used for ?" and "How various is the use of the industrial mathematics ?" respectively. Third, poster-types of each project product are developed. Fourth, three inquiry activity sheets and examples which are theme selection, inquiry plan, and group activity are developed. Fifth, 4 assessment sheets of self, peer, group, and teacher-use are developed.

  • National Education Information System, NEIS is administered for the efficiency of educational service. There have been some researches about the NEIS system and the easiness of the use. However there was no study about the teachers' experience in the use of the NEIS system. It is necessary to study the teachers' subjective experience in the use of NEIS system. For this, researcher had depth interviews with 20 elementary school teachers to collect data and researcher analyzed the data through the method of the Ground Theory. According to the result of this study, the elementary school teachers who have the expectation for the efficiency of NEIS in the process of the acceptance of NEIS, are sorted into the following types. 1) A type of positive acceptance 2) A type of realistic acceptance 3) A type of passive acceptance 4) A type of negative acceptance. This study suggests that educators need to support the elementary school teachers to use of NEIS depend on the four types of the acceptance.
