  • It is inevitable that personal privacy will be one of the most significant pressure points for most of the 2000s. Information privacy has been called one of the most important ethical issues in information age. It has become apparent that organizational practices, individuals' perceptions of these practices, and societal responses are very closely related in many ways. However, unfortunately, researches attempting to develop and validate an instrument that identifies and measures the primary dimensions of individuals' concerns about organizational information privacy practices were scarce. Based on a number of preliminary studies, this study tried to develop and validate an Korean organization oriented measurement instrument. This instrument is expected to be used as useful guide lines for the managers who are responsible for IT/IS ethical issues.

  • Purpose - Compared with the past when customers regarded a price factor as one of the most important criteria when choosing a retailer as a shopping destination, they seem to show different attitudes toward retailers in recent. This research, therefore, aims to explore how Korean customers respond to the CSR business activities provided by retailers. Research design, data, and methodology - The authors have developed the 6 hypotheses based on the literature review and adopted the 4 hypotheses after removing the 2 hypotheses through discriminant validity analysis. Results - Amongst the 4 hypotheses selected, H1 (community support), H3 (environment protection) and H6 (trading with unethical suppliers) related to a retailer's CSR business practices are accepted, whilst H4 (product issues) is rejected. Surprisingly, Korean customers are not interested in a product safety issue, when deciding a shopping store. Conclusions - Rather than emphasizing cheaper prices to attract new customers or maintain existing ones, it is demonstrated through the research that retailers have to pay their attention to their CSR activities. For a retailer's CSR practices, the retailer's social role has become more important than ever before, from a customer's point of view.

  • This study focus on what methods of MOT are needed and utilized to solve a technical problem in the MOT leading company. We first classified the MOT methods by project life cycle and R&D job quality based on the several discussion with working group. In order to study, the survey was carried out by 168 experts working on MOT practices. Our main research findings are as follows. The level of utilized MOT methods was above average because MOT sector was beginning to represent an increasing share of total R&D business. But the satisfaction level on the MOT majors was below average. The more utilized MOT methods in practices were 'environment analysis and opportunity research,' 'business feasibility,' 'roadmapping,' 'portfolio,' 'technology tree,' 'scheduling,' 'risk management,' 'six sigma,' 'design of experiment,' 'quality control,' 'cost analysis' etc. And the subjects of product realization process were also needed to MOT practice such as 'design for reliability,' 'design for cost,' 'design for performance,' 'design for safety' deeply involved to product quality. Finally, the capability requested to University students were 'problem define and solving,' 'technology planning and strategy,' 'creative thinking.'

  • Chamber of commerce and industry plays important role for development of business community and creating vibrant competition. Present paper compares chambers operations in Bangladesh, especially, Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry(SCCI) by reviewing global models of chambers practices. The study identifies important gaps between international standards and Bangladesh practices. Mostly practiced chambers model in the world are: Continental Model, Anglo-Saxon Model and Mixed model or Asian model. Like other Asian countries, chambers in Bangladesh including SCCI, have been following Mixed Model. The empirical study found that SCCI is performing different developmental functions like accumulating members, collecting revenue, fulfilling corporate social responsibility and providing business development services to its members and business community. The notable constraining factors of SCCI operations are: short term orientation in assembling members, limited functional activities, lack of creative endeavors in diversifying services, linkage between SCCI and academic institutions, poor research involvement etc. The necessary suggestions for improvement of chambers performance include adoption of creative measures in various operations, providing training to the members, assisting entrepreneurs in obtaining industrial finance and extending support in the establishment of specialized industrial zone for attaining long term developmental objectives.

  • As product development process becomes complex, it becomes more important for engineering students to experience collaborative product development. Especially the collaboration experience based on Product Data Management (PDM) systems is useful, since participants are likely to use the same environment for their professional product development. However, instructors have difficulties to evaluate contribution of each participant to their projects during the practices, since it is hard to trace personal activities for collaborative design processes. To solve this problem, this study suggests a data-driven objective method that analyses product data accumulated in PDM databases to evaluate numerically calculated contributions of participants to their class projects. As a result, the quantitative measures provided by the data-driven analysis with qualitative measures for project results can improve the fairness and quality of evaluation of contributions of participants to collaborative projects. This study implemented the proposed evaluation method with an information system and discussed the result of the application of the system to product development practices.
