  • BLDCM(Brushless D.C. Motor) is widely used for industrial application because of high efficiency and high power density. Especially, in servo system and home appliance, BLDCM is very useful due to high control performance and low acoustic noise. In this paper, 2.5HP rated BLDCM and its controller is developed for tread mill application. The prototype BLDCM has 4 poles rotor and 24 slots stator. Ferrite magnet was used as a rotor magnet because of the cost and temperature characteristic. For the stable operation of tread mill, current and temperature can be detected and treated by DSP. Thedesigned BLDCM and its controller is verified by the experimental results.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive system provides a good adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial machinery and tools. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. A noise simulation and design of 6/4 and 12/8 SRM was done in order to compare each other.

  • PMSM drives are widely used in industrial and residential applications because of high efficiency, high power density and high performance. For better performance of PMSM, however, torque ripples should be reduced. This paper investigates a reduction of torque ripple due to the unsinusoidal flux linkage produced by the shapes of stator slot and magnetic pole. To minimize torque ripple, a simple flux estimator is proposed. This method iteratively compensates the distributed flux linkage from an error between the measured and estimated currents. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • This paper deals with the design of real-time embedded system using RTOS (real-time operating system) and SOPC (system on a programmable chip). It is, in general, known that RTOS has the problem of time delay caused by the multiple tasks and task management approach. Since the increase in time delay in real-time embedded system makes the overall system have the poor performance or the critical behavior of instability and unreliability, the method employed RTOS and SOPC is proposed to attack the above problems. The proposed system is implemented on the RC-motor controller and is verified by real experiment.

  • This paper presents design of nonlinear controller based on genetic-fuzzy algorithm. Motor system that is included at a humanoid robot has many nonlinear parameters such as saturation, backlash and so on. So, it is hard to control a humanoid robot because of these nonlinearities. Also, tracking following ability is also reduced by these nonlinearities. In this paper, fuzzy PID controller is proposed for reducing efficiency by saturation. At that time, genetic algorithm is supplied at making fuzzy rule in order to make optimal fuzzy PID controller. Also, disturbance observer is used to reduce the efficiency of backlash. All these processes are verified by simulation and experiment in the real humanoid robot.

  • An embedded system has been applied to many fields including households and industrial sites. The embedded system is implemented fur image tracking in security area. This system supports a fixed IP far the reliable server operation on TCP/IP networks. A real time video image on the is analyzed to detect a certain invader who jumped into the observed area. The digital camera is connected at the USB host port of the target board. The video images from the video camera is continuously analyzed and displayed at the Linux web-server. The moving vector of the invaders on the continuous image frames is calculated and then it sends the calculated pan/tilt movement. That used Block matching algorithm and edge detection algorithm for past speed. And the displacement vector is used at pan/tilt motor control through RS232 serial cable. The experiment result showed tracking performance by the moving part speed of 10 to 150 pixels/sec.

  • In many industrial applications that use the electric motors robust controllers are needed. The method using a neural network in order to design a robust controller when a disturbance occurs is studied. Backpropagation algorithm, which is used in a conventional neural network controller is used in many areas, but when the number of neurons in the input layer, hidden layer and output layer of the neural network increases the processing speed of the learning process is slow. In this paper an adaptive PI(Proportional and Integral) controller based on CTRNN(Continuous Time Recurrent Neural Network) for permanent magnet synchronous motors is presented. By varying the load and the speed the validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiments.

  • This paper describes vibration control of a suspended system using wave absorption method. A moving multiple-pendulum system and a moving wire-and-load system are treated. The wire-and-load system is extended to a model crane system that has a motor system to roll up and down the suspended mass like a real crane. The same program with different parameter values controls these three systems. Both numerical simulation and experiment have been conducted, and the present control method has shown to be quite effective.

  • PMAC(Permanent magnet AC) motor drives are widely used in the industrial applications and home appliances because of high torque ratio, high efficiency and precise control performance. In recent years there has been a significant development of PMAC motors of various kinds. Improvements in the properties of permanent magnet materials have increased the viability of related types of motors. However, precise speed and position information is essential for the good control performance. In order to produce correct torque, the rotor flux position information from position sensor has to be identified. In this paper, a low cost position sensor is proposed for improving of starting and low speed performance of PMAC. The proposed position ...

  • As many sensors and actuators are used in various automated systems, the application of network to real-time distributed control system is gaining acceptance in many industries. In order to take advantages of networking, however, the network should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time distributed control. This paper presents an implementation method of closed-loop control using Profibus-FMS. In order to implement a closed-loop control system, we used industrial computers with Profibus-FMS network cards and a DC servo motor. Through various experiments, the step response of the control system with network was compared with the reference response without network.
