  • Recently, the solar tracker has been used to improve the efficiency of solar energy. Solar tracking technologies are classified into the sensor-based method, the program-based method, and the hybrid method. Solar trackers using an AC motor and CdS sensor are low in cost, but the precision of the positions is low, owing to the inertia of the motor and the scattering of sunlight. To compensate for the low precision, we implement a CdS sensor module and propose an AC motor control method using error value. To evaluate the performance of the solar tracker, we implemented a solar water heater. From the experimental results, the solar tracker can achieve ${\pm}2mm$ accuracy for sun, can satisfy ${\pm}15mm$ as a limited error value, and provides a 32% performance enhancement in KSB8202 criteria.

  • Many companies have tried to develop the horizontally vibrating linear motor, for sliming the smart phone. Mathematical modeling and analysis is one of method to simulate the dynamic performance of the horizonatally vibrating linear motor. However, the horizontally vibrating linear motor vibrates in twisting mode because there are two kinds of force acting on the vibrating part. One is are the horizontal force by Lorentz force. The other is the vertical force by attraction force between magnet of vibrating part and bracket and the gravity force of vibrating part. However, those are very difficult to be included in mathematical modeling which generate the simulation errors. In this paper, we perform MFBD (multi flexible body dynamics) simulation using commercial dynamic analysis program "DAFUL". In our new model, the force effects those are neglected in mathematical model, are included. For the verification, the simulation results are compared with the experiment results with manufactured prototype.

  • The control moment gyroscope(CMG) which is well known as an effective high-torque-generating device is applicable to space vehicles, airplanes, ships, automobiles, robotics, etc. for attitude stabilization and maneuver. This paper deals with the overall details of 100Nm-class CMG development for various industrial applications, and provides the activities and results associated with the CMG system-level requirement analysis, the motor subsystem design/manufacturing/integration, the construction of ground support equipment, and the performance test and evaluation. The performance test reveals that the CMG generates the torque output more than 120Nm in as-designed operation of spin motor and gimbal motor.

  • Sun position computed by Michalsky shows maximum $1.5^{\circ}$, $0.88^{\circ}$ and 2 minutes differences in azimuth, altitude, and sunrise and sunset times respectively compared with Korean Almanac. The 2-axis solar tracking system, which consist control panel with ATmega128 CPU, BLDC motor-cylinder actuator and 2-axis link mechanism, was developed. Computed azimuth and altitude of sun for a current time, and latitude and longitude of tracker position built are controlled in real time by BLDC motor-cylinder actuators comparing with the position feed-backed by Hall sensor. The use of BLDC motor is free in maintenance. Implementation of a home-return function by Hall sensor is to minimize the cumulative error.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the effects of physical activity program on obese young children's body composition and basic motor skills. The physical activity program was conducted with 16 participants whose Kaup Index were higher than 20 were divided into 2 groups(experimental group and control group) for 12 weeks three times a week. Results of the study are as following. First, the physical activity program was found to improve sub-factors of body composition(weight, body fat mass, % body fat, lean body mass and total body water) in the experimental group compared to the control group. There was statistically significant difference between two groups. Second, the physical activity program was found to improve locomotor and manipulation skills of basic motor skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups. Based on these results, the physical activity program have positive effects on the changes in obese young children's body composition and basic motor skills.

  • Owing to the present problems of air pollution and fossil fuel exhaustion, ongoing research has been actively focused on developing an electric actuator system that can utilize diverse energy sources without producing any exhaust gas. Since the motors of such electric vehicles generally rotate at a high speed, the initial acceleration capability required for an automobile is insufficient. In this study, the motor output was decelerated by the transmission; the initial acceleration of the vehicle was increased, and the motor size and weight were reduced. The driving motor and transmission, which each form isolated structures, were integrated to simplify the connector for input and output. By reducing the cooling system's capacity, a vehicle was designed and manufactured that represents a structural change in effective technology.

  • Fieldbus technology is having a massive impact on the development of faster, smarter and less expensive industrial networking systems. However, there have been a few of practically applied cases and channels for obtaining technical advices. Moreover, the users in the industry don't trust the Fieldbus technology like they didn't trust PLC control system in 1970s. Therefore, in this paper, Air flow control system is constructed by Fieldbus technologies, Profibus and Inverter that controls the motor speed. With the features of the motor control, the amount of electric power consumption by the speed control of motor is measured by the constructed control system. From this measured result, the effectiveness of the airflow control system and Feasibility to the practical industry field is demonstrated To improve the confidence of Fieldbus technology, practically embodied cases and technical methods are presented.

  • Industrial motors are subject to incipient faults which, if undetected, can lead to motor failure. The necessity of incipient fault detection can be justified by safety and economical reasons. The technology of artificial neural networks has been successfully used to solve the motor incipient fault detection problem. This paper develops inexpensive, reliable, and noninvasive NN based incipient fault detection scheme for small and medium sized induction motors. Detailed design procedure for achieving the optimal NN model and Principal Component Analysis for dimensionality reduction is proposed. Overall thirteen statistical parameters are used as feature space to achieve the desired classification. GFFD NN model is designed and verified for optimal performance in fault identification on experimental data set of custom designed 2 HP, three phase 50 Hz induction motor.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are usually balanced and connected to three power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, partial loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating voltage unbalance by the impedance mismatching. Voltage unbalance has detrimental effects on three-phase induction motors, including over heating, line-current unbalance, derating, torque pulsation, low efficiency, etc. This paper presents a scheme on operation states of a three-phase induction motor under the unbalanced voltages with harmonics components. Three-phase voltages applied to the stator winding of the studied induction motor are controlled by respectively adjusting not only fundamental but also harmonics components. Harmonic components at the voltage unbalanced factor(VUF) of the three-phase source voltages can then be examined the different values of VUF on machine's operation characteristics.
