Experimental study on heating performance characteristics of electric heat pump system using stack coolant in a fuel cell electric vehicle (연료전지 스택 폐열 활용 전동식 히트펌프 시스템 난방 성능 특성 연구)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate heating performance characteristics of electric heat pump system in a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). In order to analyze heating performance characteristics of electric heat pump system with plate-type heat exchanger using stack coolant to evaporate the refrigerant, R-134a, each component was installed and tested under various operating conditions, such as air inlet temperature of inner condenser and compressor speed. When the air inlet temperature of inner condenser was varied from $0.0^{\circ}C$ to $-20.0^{\circ}C$, heating capacity was not quite different due to similar temperature gap between inlet and outlet of inner condenser with electric-driven expansion valve (EEV). However, COP increased until certain EEV opening, especially under 45.0%, because of decreasing power consumption. According to the compressor speed variation from 2,000 to 4,000 RPM, heating capacity and COP were found to have opposite trend. In the future works, stack coolant conditions as the heat source for tested heat pump system were analyzed with respect to heating performance, such as heating capacity and COP.

Numerical Study on the Effect of Diesel Injection Parameters on Combustion and Emission Characteristics in RCCI Engine (RCCI 엔진의 디젤 분사 파라미터에 따른 연소 및 배출가스 특성에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Low-temperature combustion (LTC) strategies, such as HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition), PCCI (Premixed Charge Compression Ignition), and RCCI (Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition), have been developed to effectively reduce NOx and PM while increasing the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. Through numerical analysis, this study examined the effects of the injection timing and two-stage injection ratio of diesel fuel, a highly reactive fuel, on the performance and exhaust gas of RCCI engines using gasoline as the low reactive fuel and diesel as the highly reactive fuel. In the case of two-stage injection, combustion slows down if the first injection timing is too advanced. The combustion temperature decreases, resulting in lower combustion performance and an increase in HC and CO. The injection timing of approximately -60°ATDC is considered the optimal injection timing considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and maximum pressure rise rate. When the second injection timing was changed during the two-stage injection, considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and the maximum pressure increase rate, it was judged to be optimal around -30°ATDC. In the case of two-stage injection, the optimal result was obtained when the first injection amount was set to approximately 60%. Finally, a two-stage injection rather than a single injection was considered more effective on the combustion performance and exhaust gas.

Case Study on Physical Activity Guidance Experience to Maintain Balance in Adults with Cerebellar Ataxia (소뇌성 운동실조증 성인의 균형 유지를 위한 신체활동 지도 경험 사례 연구)

  • This study aims to understand positive changes in balance and gait function and difficulties in the instructor's guidance process through repetitive basic motor skill-based physical activities targeting people with cerebellar ataxia. For this purpose, five adults with cerebellar ataxia were selected as research subjects, and their three instructors participated as research participants. To collect quantitative data, the average and standard deviation were examined through pre-and post-evaluation of the research participants' physical activity classes for 16 weeks. The mean and standard deviation of the collected data were calculated using the Shapiro-Wilk test in the SAS 9.1 statistical program (p<.05). As a qualitative data collection method, the cultural description method of developmental research(DSR) proposed by Spradley(1980) was adopted, and the collected data were analyzed inductively according to the analysis method of Mertens(1990). Through this, 31 concepts, 10 subcategories, and 4 categories were discovered. As a result, the difficulties experienced by the research participants included insufficient guidance environment, dissatisfaction of consumers, difficulty in guidance, and non-cooperation of colleagues. Based on these research results, it was found that institutional, legal, and policy support should be provided not only to public institutions but also to private physical activity institutions that can use vouchers in order to maintain the balance of adults with cerebellar ataxia as well as to guide their physical activities.

Analysis of the Utilization Characteristics of Electrical Power and Equipments on the Farms (농촌의 전력및 전기기기의 이용특성분석)

  • The purposes of this study are to evaluate the utilization characteristics of electrical power consumption, to grasp the present trends in the use of electrical equipments, to estimate the demand factor and load factor being held, and to evaluate the efficiency of electical uses for the recently electrified farms cultivating paddy rice. For the purposes, 109 sample farms located in eleven villiages electrified in six different years from 1968 to 1973, were chosen at random and investigated on 35 items concerning to electrical uses and wiring systems. The survey was carried out in 1975, in the vinicity of Suweon city. The results are summarized as follows: i) The average annual power consumption on sample farms is considered to be low, being 242.9 Kwh. in 1974, and varied according to the different electrified year and size of cultivated land, respectively. It has significant positive correlation to the area of farm, too. ii) Between the number of year of electrical uses and the power consumption, there is very significant positive correlation, which could be expressed as Y=43.041+16.108 X, where X represents the number of years of electrical uses. The annual increment of power consumption is much greater at the beginning of the electrification than that at the later years, its average being approximately 20 percent. However, it is recommended that any estimation of long-term increments should be carefully investigated. iii) The monthly power consumption varies considerably throughout a year, in which the heaviest farm load occurs in November. Observing the seasonal variation of consumption, the winter-time is the heaviest season while the summer is the lowest. The result implies house lighting is chief contribution to the present electrical consumption on the farms. Comparing the variation of monthly consumption ratios between the sample farms and industries, the electrical uses on the farms are independant of the industrial uses, and further, the agricultural uses are of inverse pattern to the farms from the results that there is negative correlationship between them, iv) The number of electrical equipments used on the farms are occupied chiefly by lighting sources. Next to the lighting sources, household appliances of small quantity and some motors are used. The mean electrical quantity is about 1, 127.4 watt, which corresponds to about 37.6 per cent to the contracted quantity. The composition of quantity is chiefly occupied by the electrical motor of about 1.5 hp., single-phased. The number of the annual utilization hours of each equipment is tabulated in Table IV-5. In contradiction to the high utilization of lighting sources and small household appliances, the motor is poorly used for approximately 22 hours in a year. v) More than 55 per cent of farms want to purchase new electrical equipments such as small household appliances and electrical motors in their number. The impulse of purchasing such items is stimulated by the contacts to the mass media and their knowledge on such equipments. Consequently, the increase of electrical uses could be prompted by such trials as education and demonstration. vi) The demand and load factors on the farms vary considerably according to the greater variation of the power consumption, daily or monthly. The daily demand factor is 22.4 per cent and load factor 18.6 per cent, while the annual demand factor is 1.3 per cent and load factor 70 per cent approximately. Therefore, the low efficiency of construction cost requires re-evaluation of the present contracted quantity of 3 Kw. or increase of electrical uses. vii) The electrical energy on the farms devoted chiefly to lighten the farm residences does not contribute to the farm incomes. Consequently, the cost of electrical consumption presses considerably upon the farm economy. Therefore, there is great need to build up the electrical uses on the farms through the development of new works and techinques to utilize any electrical equipments on the production of farm products. Further more, such the development should be related to increase the actual income of the farm consumers.

Lead Pollution and Lead Poisoning among Children in China

  • Lead is ubiquitous in the human environment as a result of industrialization. China's rapid industrialization and traffic growth have increased the potential for lead emissions. Lead poisoning in children is one of the most common public health problems today, and it is entirely preventable. Children are more vulnerable to lead pollution and lead in their bodies can affect their nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems. Children are exposed to lead from different sources (such as paint, gasoline, and solder) and through different pathways (such as air, food, water, dust, and soil). Although all children are exposed to some lead from food, air, dust, and soil, some children are exposed to high dose sources of lead. Significant sources of lead for China's children include industrial emissions (often close to housing and schools), leaded gasoline, and occupational exposure that occurs when parents wear lead-contaminated clothing home from work, burning of coal for home heat and cooking, contaminated food, and some traditional medicines. To assess the blood lead level in children in China, a large-scale study was conducted in 19 cities among 9 provinces during 1997 to 2000. There were 6502 children, aged 3-5 years, were recruited in the study The result indicates that the mean blood lead level was 8.83ug/dl 3-5 year old living in city area. The mean blood lead level of boys was higher than that of girls (9.1l ug/dl vs 8.73ug/dl). Almost 30 percent childrens blood lead level exceeded 10ug/dl. The average blood lead level was higher than that of in 1985 (8.83ug/dl vs 8.lug/dl). An epidemiological study was carried on the children living around the cottage industries recycling the lead from battery. Nine hundreds fifty nine children, aged 5-12 years, living in lead polluted villages where the lead smelters located near the residential area and 207 control children live in unpolluted area were recruited in the study. The lead levels in air, soil, drinking water and crops were measured. The blood lead and ZnPP level were tested for all subjects. The results show that the local environment was polluted. The lead levels both in the air and crops were much higher than that of in control area. In the polluted area, the average blood level was 49.6ug/dl (rang 19.5-89.3ug/dl). Whereas, in the unpolluted area, the average blood level was 12.4ug/dl (rang 4.6-24.8ug/dl). This study indicates that in some countryside area, some cottage industries induce seriously lead pollution and cause children health problem. For the introducing of unleaded gasoline in some large cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, the blood lead level showed a declined trend since 1997. By 2000, the use of leaded gasoline in motor vehicles has been prohibited in China. The most recent data available show that levels of lead in blood among children in Shanghai decreased from 8.3ug/dl in 1997 to 7.6ug/dl in 1999. The prevalence rate of children lead poisoning (blood lead >10ug/dl) was also decreased from 37.8% to 24.8%. In children living in downtown area, the blood lead level reduced dramatically. To explore the relationship between gene polymorphisms and individual susceptibility of lead poisoning, a molecular epidemiological study was conducted among children living in lead polluted environment. The result showed that the subjects with ALAD2 allele has higher ZPP level, and the subjects with VDR B allele has larger head circumference than only with b allele. In the present study, we demonstrated that ALAD genotypes modify lead effects on heme metabolism and VDR gene variants influence the skull development in highly exposed children. The polymorphism of ALAD and VDR genes might be the molecular inherited factor modifying the susceptibility of lead poisoning. Recently, Chinese government pays more attention to lead pollution and lead poisoning in children problem. The leaded gasoline was prohibited used in motor vehicles since 2000. The government has decided to have a clampdown on the high-polluted lead smelters for recycling the lead from battery in countryside.   • The number of the disabled person had been increased for the industrial accident and the environmental pollution. Especially, developmental disability has the high prevalence rate between 5% and 10% of the whole children. The children with a developmental disability can be treated by the physical therapy, the occupational therapy, the psychology therapy, speech therapy, and art therapy. Visual preception which is function to recognize the external environment through the optic organ could be related to most behaviors on the everyday life. But because the children with disability could not develop the visual-preception enough, they came to have difficulties in executing daily life project. For this reason, it is most important to understand the estimation and the cure on the visual-preception in the pediatric occupational therapy. To improve the visual-preception power, we have many kind of methods including sensory integration, training program for the visual-perception and art-craft program. Particularly, the art-craft which is the representative activity for making something by hands, can be applied to anyone. As the study on the brain has been activated, it was proved that handicraft actives could have an good effect on the brain function and using brain. When the fine motor exercise and more delicate and accurate motion were carried, these motions need the essential help of the visual-perception. So it could be expected that using the repetitive hand function by art-craft makes the brain function improve, when a activity that needs a fine motor exercise and more delicate, accurate motion was carried, It also indicates that the art-craft program has a clear treatment value. Though the intervention between visual-perception development and visual-perception disability have a majority in the field of occupational therapy, there is a few study yet. Therefore, this study tried to look back on the necessity of applying the art-craft program to the children with disability as the prestudy for preliminary validity of the master's thesis.

Experimental Study on Energy Saving through FAN Airflow Control in the Generator Room of a 9200-ton Training Ship (9200톤급 실습선 발전기실 FAN 송풍유량 제어를 통한 선박에너지 절약에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • As a part of the global industrial efforts to reduce environmental pollution owing to air pollution, regulations have been established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The IMO has implemented various regulations such as EEXI, EEDI, and CII to reduce air pollution emissions from ships. They are also promoting measures to decrease the power consumption in ships, aiming to conserve energy. Most of the power used in ships is consumed by electric motors. Among the motors installed on ships, the engine room blower that takes up a significant load, operates at a constant irrespective of demand. Therefore, energy savings can be expected through frequency control. In this study, we demonstrated the efficacy of energy savings by controlling the frequency of the electric motor of the generator blower that supplies combustion air to the generator's turbocharger. The system was modeled based on the output data of the turboharger outlet temperature in response to the blower frequency inpu. A PI control system was established to control the frequency with the target being the turbocharger outlet temperature. By maintaining the turbocharger design standard outlet temperature and controlling the blower frequency, we achieved an annual energy saving of 15,552kW in power consumption. The effectiveness of energy savings through frequency control of blower fans was verified during the summer (April to September) and winter (March to October) periods. Based on this, we achieved annual fuel cost savings of 6,091 thousand won and reduction of 8.5 tons of carbon dioxide, 2.4 kg of SOx, and 7.8 kg of NOx air pollutants on the training ship.

Ablative Mechanism of SiC Coated Carbon/carbon Composites with Ratio of Oxygen to Fuel at Combusion Test (연소시험에서 산소와 연료 비에 따른 탄화규소로 코팅된 탄소/ 탄소 복합재의 삭마 메커니즘)

  • Carbon/carbon (C/C) composites as unique materials possess exceptional thermal resistance with light weight, high stiffness, and strength even at high temperature. However, one serious obstacle for application of the C/C composites is their poor oxidation resistance in high temperature oxidizing environments. SiC coating has been employed to protect the composites from oxidation. This study explored combustion characteristics of 4-directional (4D) carbon/carbon composites using liquid fuel rocket engine to investigate ablative motion of the materials. C/C composites were made of coal tar pitch as a matrix precursor, and heat-treated at $2300^{\circ}C$. Throughout repeated densification process, the density of the material reached $1.903g/cm^3$. After machining 4D C/C composites, the nozzle surface was coated by a SiC layer by pack-cementation method to improve oxidation resistance. Erosion characteristics of SiC-coated C/C composites were measured as function of the ratio of oxygen to fuel. The morphological change of the composites after combustion test was investigated using SEM and erosion mechanism also was discussed.

  • 노지 고추 수확작업은 100% 인력에 의존하고 있으며 7~9월에 걸쳐 5~6회의 다수의 작업이 수행되어 노동 강도가 크다. 또한 농촌의 고령화와 노동력 감소로 인하여 수확인력의 부족이 발생하고 있음에도 불구하고 시중에 유통되고 있는 고추 및 노지채소 수확작업 편이기기는 동력이 아닌 인력으로 이랑사이를 이동하며 작물을 수확하는 구조로 되어있다. 이는 노동 강도를 줄여주는 효과가 미미하기 때문에 동력이 수반된 편이장치가 필요하며 또한 적절한 모터 및 제어장치가 요구된다. 적절한 모터를 선정함에 있어서 영향을 주는 인자는 주행저항(RR)이며, 구성요소로는 구름마찰저항(Rr), 공기저항(RА), 등판저항(Rg), 가속저항(Ra)이 있으며, 다음과 같은 식으로 정의된다. 주행저항(RR)=구름마찰저항(Rr)+공기저항(RA)+등판저항(Rg)+가속저항(Ra) 구름마찰저항(Rr)=구름마찰저항계수(${\mu}$)${\times}$차량총중량(W) 등판저항(Rg)=차량총중량(W)${\times}Sin{\theta}$ 공기저항(RА), 및 가속저항(Ra)은 1m/s 미만의 속도가 요구되기 때문에 무시할 수 있다. 동력원에서 최종 구동축으로 전달된 동력은 주행장치를 통하여 지면에 전달되고 이 동력에 의해 작업차의 주행장치에 추진력이 발생하며 주행장치의 추진력이 주행저항 이상이 될 때 작업차는 전진하게 된다. 따라서 작업차의 주행속도를 V(m/s), 전동기의 효율을 ${\mu}_m$, 동력전달효율을 ${\mu}_{TD}$라고 하면 다음과 같은 식이 산출된다. 전동기의 소요출력(P)=주행저항(RR)${\times}$속도(V)/전동기의 효율(${\mu}_m$)${\times}$동력전달효율(${\mu}_{TD}$) 구름마찰계수를 0.3이라고 할 때 포장의 경사도와 작업차의 주행속도 변화에 따른 주행소요 동력을 비교하였다. 주행소요동력은 포장의 경사각과 주행속도의 증가와 더불어 증가한다. 고추 및 노지채소 수확작업 편이장치의 작업시 요구되는 주행속도는 일반적으로 0.25m/s, 등반각은 5도이다. 이때 구동 전동기의 출력은 안전율을 고려하여 식에 의해 계산한 결과 1ps으로 산출 되었다. 선정한 구동모터의 감속비는 7.18 : 1, 에너지의 효율은 78 %, 기동토크는14 N/m 이며, 축전지의 경우 구동모터에 기반 하여 구입이 간편하고 상용화 되어있는 연축전지를 사용하여 교체 및 수리가 간단하도록 하였다. 축전지는 12V 18Ah의 축전지 2개를 사용한다.

Measuring and Generation the speed of reaction wheel for Spacecraft Dynamic Simulator using the T-Method (위성동역학 시뮬레이터용 T-방식을 이용한 반작용휠 속도 측정 및 펄스 생성)

  • The M-Method that measures the speed of actuator with counting the number of Reaction wheel Tacho Pulse has the many advantages such that a realization is simple and measuring time is uniform, but it also has the disadvantage that measuring speed becomes worse as the wheel speed goes lower. On the contrary, the T-Method that measures the time duration between the pulses is more accurate at lower-speed and its time delay is smaller than M-Method, but its realization is more difficult than M-Method because measuring time is varying with wheel speed variation. Thought M/T Method mixing M-Method with T-Method is widely used in order to measure the speed in the motor industrial area, one of two methods has been used in the spacecraft design area. Therefore, we try to apply both methods together to measuring the speed of Reaction Wheel, the core actuator for low earth orbit satellite. This paper provides the Reaction Wheel simulation board located in the Spacecraft Dynamic Simulator, ground support test set.
