Date were collected from September 15 to October 15, 2018 and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. The mean of professional self-concept was $2.87{\pm}0.35$ out of 4, that of moral sensitivity was $4.70{\pm}0.47$ out of 7 and that of elderly care performance $3.51{\pm}0.41$ out of 4. Elderly care performance was siginificantly positively correlated with professional self-concept (r=.48, p<.001) and moral sensitivity (r=.31, p<.001). Factors influencing elderly care performance were professional self-concept (${\beta}=.32$, p=.001), moral sensitivity (${\beta}=.18$, p=.021), educational experience of geriatric nursing (${\beta}=.17$, p=.029), which explained 31.6% of elderly care performance. The results of this study suggest that supporting systems should be arranged to provide various learning opportunities as a way to increase the professional self-concept of nurses with short career as well as intervention strategies may be necessary to make education of geriatric nursing obligatory.

  • This study was carried out to grasp the job stress and intention to change their jobs of nurses at general hospitals by their socio-demographic, job-related and health-related behavior characteristics and especially to investigate their relationship to the job stress and intention to change their jobs. The subjects were 355 nurses working at three university hospitals located in Daejeon City, and data were collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from April 1 to May 31, 2012. As a results, the average point of the nurses' intention to change jobs by the causes for job stress was significantly higher in the boss group with low support than in that with high support while it was higher in colleague group with low support than in that with high support. To look into the correlation between the points of intention to change their jobs and the causes for job stress, their intention to change their jobs showed a significant negative correlation to the boss's support and colleagues' support while there was no significant relationship with job demands and job autonomy. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, drinking coffee, department, job satisfaction, the boss's support and colleagues' support were selected as significant related variables affecting the nurses' intention to change their jobs and these variables' descriptive power was 29.4%. Viewed from the above results, it is suggested that the nurses' job stress and intention to change their jobs has a significant relationship with various variables such as socio-demographic, health-related behavior and job-related characteristics. In addition, there were a significant positive correlation between the causes for the job stress cause and intention to change their jobs, and among the causes for the job stress, support by their boss or colleagues turned out to be those affecting their intention to change their jobs. Thus, it is considered that it is necessary to minimize the nurses' job stress and at the same time to seek for specific measures for preventing their turnover.

  • The purpose this study was to explore the return-to-work experience of nurses after receiving cancer treatment. The participants of this research were 6 registered nurses who were working when they were diagnosed with cancer. Data were collected by individual in-depth interviews from January 5 to January 29, 2016 and analyzed using phenomenological methodology by Colaizzi(1978). The study results revealed that the return-to-work experiences of nurses after receiving cancer treatment may be categorized as 'Enduring hardly', 'Living a balance in my turning point', 'Reborn' and may be identified with 9 theme clusters and 27 themes. Their experience of returning to work as a nurse after cancer treatment consisted of expressing difficulty in handling both work and treatment. Despite that, they came to live a more mature life after their disease and came to affirm their existence through their work. Thus, an improved working environment to manage both work and treatment and continual support and assistance from society is deemed necessary.

  • This research aimed to determine what male nursing students experienced in the course of serving in a medical care unit in the military and how this experience affected the nursing curriculum after they returned to school. This study was intended to provide basic information on nursing education for male nursing students. This qualitative research conducted a focus group interview to gather comprehensive data that are common among the subjects, in which 15 male nursing college students who experienced serving in a medical unit were divided into three focus groups. The results of this study identified five themes: 'recognition of the various role of a medic', 'caring ability and management of rare diseases', 'adaptation to different works in each military ranks', 'recognition of health care networks', and 'prerequisite learning of school subjects'. It was concluded that experience as a medic during military service helped to develop various capabilities, and these competencies were shown to guide students to demonstrate their abilities in a school environment or help accomplish their given tasks with confidence and establish interpersonal relationships as nurses in the future. The results of this study provide a theoretical basis for demonstrating that male nursing student's experience as a medic during military service aids to reinforce not only personal and academic capabilities but also the skills needed as a nurse.

  • This study was undertaken to identify the impact of bad customer behavior, job burnout, and positive psychological capital, on the job embeddedness of nurses. Data was collected from July 1 to July 31, 2019 using a structured questionnaire, enrolling 198 nurses working at three general hospitals located in 2 metropolitan cities. Data were analyzed by applying t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression, using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Our results indicate that bad customer behavior significantly correlates with job burnout (r=0.24, p=<0.001), positive psychological capital (r=-0.37, p=<0.001), and job embeddedness (r=-0.48, p=<0.001). Moreover, job burnout had a positive impact on psychological capital (r=-0.44, p=<0.001) and job embeddedness (r=-0.31, p=<0.001), whereas positive psychological capital impacted job embeddedness (r=0.49, p=<0.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that bad customer behavior (β=-0.34, p<0.001), positive psychological capital (β=0.32, p=0.004), and position (β=-0.19, p=0.001) had maximum influence (38%) on the level of job embeddedness experienced by nurses. Taken together, results of this study indicate that in order to increase the level of job embeddedness of nurses, it is necessary to develop strategies that eradicate and manage bad customer behavior, and also develop programs that strengthen and develop positive psychological capital.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate levels of vocational identity, adaptation in a nursing school, and nursing student satisfaction with major and clinical practice, to examine their interrelationships, and to investigate predictors affecting the vocational identity of nursing students. The participants were 335 nursing students in D city who were surveyed from October to December 2016 using a self-report questionnaire. The data from 317 participants (response rate 94.6%) were analyzed. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between college adaptation, satisfaction with major, satisfaction with clinical practice, and vocational identity. In the multiple regression analysis, college adaptation, satisfaction with major, and satisfaction with clinical practice were factors significantly associated with the vocational identity. These three factors explained 50.6% of the vocational identity of nursing students. Due to the high turnover rate among new nurses, it is critical that nursing students have a vocational identity as nurses. In order to improve vocational identity, nurse educators should consider helping students to adapt to nursing college, and to become satisfied with major and clinical practice.
