Induction motors are used in many areas to transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. In the design of an induction motor, not only energy efficiency but also noise becomes an important factor. To effectively address the noise problem, it will be convenient if one can see where and how noise is generated and propagated. In this study sound radiation by an induction motor is visualized using cylindrical acoustic holography. To minimize the bias error by window effect Minimum Error Window(MEW) is used. Its performance is verified by numerical simulations. Based on these theoretical understanding, sound pressure measurement with an induction motor are performed. Not only sound radiation are visualized but sound pressure level and sound power level are also estimated. Results show that the main source is located at nearly bottom part of the motor and the total sound pressure level is 49dB, which satisfies the guideline value suggested by the KS C 4202.
Sounds that have been evaluated to be effective in inducing sleep are helpful to reduce sleep disorders. Generally, several sounds have been verified the effects by brainwave experiments, but it cannot be considered on all users because of individual variation for effects. Moreover, the effectiveness for inducing sleep is not known for all new sounds made by creative activities. Therefore, new classification system is required to collect new effective sounds with considering personal brainwave characteristics. In this paper, we propose a new sound classification method by applying improved MinHash cluster to brain waves. The proposed method will classify them through whether it is effective for sleep care by evaluation his brainwave during listening for each sound. In order to prove effectiveness of the proposed classification method, we conducted accuracy experiment for sleep sound classification using verified sleep induction sound. In addition, we have compared time for existing method and proposed method. The former is scored 85% accuracy in the experiment. We confirmed the latter one that the average processing time was reduced to 70%. It is expected to be one of method for pre-screening whether it is effective when a new sound is introduced as a sound for sleep induction.
People who have sleep disorders such as insomnia take a long time to get to sleep, namely sleep latency. In order to reduce it, effective stimulations and environments to induce sleep such as ASMR or pink noise are necessary. However these have different effects and preferences for each individual. Therefore customized service and control for the sleep induction will be provide to him/her. In this paper, we proposed SIS control system which provides selectively sound control among various kinds of ASMR and pink noise according to sleep state measured from brain wave data for an individual. In order to verify the effectiveness of the system, we had conducted totally 30 experiments for 5 people, and all EEG data measured from all the people during sleep. An average of 3.7 hours was spent per experiment. In comparison experiments with and without sound control for sleep induction, the latency time was reduced by an average of 8 minutes as well as delta waves and theta waves, which appear only in deep sleep, are increased by 21%.
Engine noise is one of the major causes of the interior noise, and so has been studied in various ways in recent days. Recently air induction noise has been extensively studied to reduce the engine noise. Conventional method to reduce the noise is adding several resonators to the induction system. However this causes a reduction of engine output power and an increase of fuel consumption. Thus in this study, the feasibility of applying the active noise control to the induction system is studied to the overcome the above disadvantage.
Lately concerns about structure have been increased by advantages of floor impact noise, poilitical induction and changeability. Hence, Flat Plate Structure has been constructed increasingly. This study shows the comparison of the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure System and the existing Wall Structure. For this study, taking the same level organization of Daelim Architectural Environmental Research Center, I found the performance of sound insulation between the upper and lower floors about Wall Structure and Flat Plate Structure. Consequently, the performance of sound insulation between upper and lower floors of Flat Plate Structure was 3-5dB higher was approximately 3-5dB higher than one of Wall Structure. Especially, the performance of sound insulation on the upper floor was 1-3dB higher than on the lower floor. In addition, as the result of comparing radiation sound which radiates from the wall of lower floors with each structure system, Flat Plate Structure was about 4dB higher with Rw than Wall Structure. As we see totally, the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure is highter than one of the Wall Structure. It is 3-5dB higher and the main reason for this result depends on the existence of the wall which can radiate sound and nonexistence.
Recently, a sound wave phase meter (SWPM) that can directly measure the pressure waveform of sound waves in free space has been reported, and the development of educational experimental equipment using this meter is in progress. One of the main advantages of using this meter is that wavelengths can be obtained directly from the crests and troughs of the measured pressure waveforms in space without expensive equipment. However, there are times when the measurement wavelength does not exactly match the actual wavelength value, and the pressure waveform differs from the actual shape. This study was conducted to identify and analyze the causes of such errors occurring in SWPM. As a result, it was found that wavelength errors occur when the propagation direction of sound waves and the measurement direction of SWPM do not coincide. It has also been found that an error in the pressure waveform is generated when the induction and sound wave signal outputs from the SWPM interfere with each other to produce a composite signal. We have shown that we can develop educational experimental equipment by suggesting ways to reduce such errors.
A broadband self-recording hydrophone was developed to conveniently assemble a hydrophone array for use in receiving underwater sound waves. A trigger device with an electromagnetic induction coupler was also developed to control the hydrophone's operation. Main configurations and specifications of the self-recording hydrophone are introduced in this paper. We present experiment results conducted in a water tank to examine the operating behavior of the hydrophone. Some advantages are discussed when the self-recording hydrophones are used to make up a hydrophone array.
Induction Motor fed by PWM inverter generates the sound and the vibration because of harmonic current and magnetic force characteristics. This paper is investigated the harmonic frequency and noise characteristics of the current and the torque of the induction motor when the input voltage is excited as the sine wave or PWM wave. The performance characteristics of induction motor is analyzed by the F.E.M and the theoretical method.
In home appliances, electric energy is optimally controlled by using power electronics technology, creating a comfortable environment in terms of energy saving, low sound generation, and reduced time consumption. Usually simplicity and robustness make the three phase induction motor attractive for use in domestic appliance, including washing machines. Two main types of domestic washing machine have evolved. We focus on the front loading machine favored in Europe, which has a horizontal drum axis. The efficiency improvement in home appliances is very important for customers. Induction motor efficiency can be improved by means of loss reduction, which can be realized by motor selection and design, improvement of the waveforms supplied by power Inverter, utilizing a suitable control method. So this paper describes the architecture and feature of washing machine fed induction motor drive under minimizing losses vector control.
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) refer to various types of amplification equipment designed to improve the communication of individuals with hard of hearing to enhance the accessibility to speech signal when individual hearing instruments are not sufficient. There are many types of ALDs to overcome a triangle of speech to noise ratio (SNR) problems, noise, distance, and reverberation. ALDs vary in their internal electronic mechanisms ranging from simple hard-wire microphone-amplifier units to more sophisticated broadcasting systems. They usually use microphones to capture an audio source and broadcast it wirelessly over a frequency modulation (FM), infra-red, induction loop, or other transmission techniques. The seven types of ALDs are introduced including hardwire devices, FM sound system, infra-red sound system, induction loop system, telephone listening devices, television, and alert/alarm system. Further development of digital wireless technology in hearing instruments will make possible direct communication with ALDs without any accessories in the near future. There are two technology solutions for digital wireless hearing instruments improving SNR and convenience. One is near-field magnetic induction combined with Bluetooth radio frequency (RF) transmission or proprietary RF transmission and the other is proprietary RF transmission alone. Recently launched digital wireless hearing aid applying this new technology can communicate from the hearing instrument to personal computer, phones, Wi-Fi, alert systems, and ALDs via iPhone, iPad, and iPod. However, it comes with its own iOS application offering a range of features but there is no option for Android users as of this moment.
