The concept of seismic design was induced in our country which was poor in it for the scarcity of recognition and insufficiency of funds. Recently many specialists are enforcing the provisions of seismic design. But because seismic force of seismic design is very great and all the seismic force are concentrated on the fixed bearings and substructure the bearings are the seismic force are concentrated on the fixed bearings and substructure the bearings are destroyed so that seismic design lose its basic concept. In addition when the earthquake which exceeds seismic design force takes place the bridge is collapsed. For these reasons the developed seismic isolation design concept was appeared which diminishes seismic force itself by period shift and additional damping distributes it to each superstructures evenly. Therefore this study introduced the method which combines PC-LEADeR(design program for L.R.B) with SAP 2000(linear elastic analysis) and performs the seismic isolation design more elaborately and simply verified the propriety of that method and examined the force control of L. R. B.
Different types of moment resisting connections are commonly used to transfer the induced seismic moments between frame elements in an earthquake resisting structure. The local connection behavior may drastically affect the global seismic response of the structure. In this study, the finite element and experimental seismic investigations are implemented on two frequently used connection type to evaluate the local behavior and to reveal the failure modes. An alternative connection type is then proposed to eliminate the unfavorable brittle fracture modes resulted from probable poor welding quality. This will develop a reliable predefined ductile plastic mechanism forming away from the critical locations. Employing this technique, the structural reliability of the moment resisting connections shall be improved by achieving a controllable energy dissipation source in form of yielding of the cover plates.
In this study, the control performances of Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) and Tuned Liquid Column Damper (TLCD) are evaluated and compared for seismically excited structures. Results show that TLCD is more effective than TMD for interstory drift control while TLCD is as effective as TMD for acceleration control. In special, it is shown that interstory drifts are maximally controlled in lower floors and accelerations are reduced most in upper floors. This indicates that TLCD is an effective controller for earthquake-induced structures in terms of structural safety as well as serviceability.
In this study, fragility curves of continuous buried pipelines subjected to transverse PGD (permanent ground deformation) due to liquefaction are proposed. For the waterworks system, continuos buried pipelines made of ductile iron, poly ethylene, and poly vinyl chloride are analyzed and fragility curves are drawn. Fragility curves are based on the repetitive analyses results and formulated with the dominant factors of behaviour of buried pipeline. With the use of fragility curves, engineers can estimate the status of damage of buried pipeline without overall knowledge of relevant features. Especially, fragility curves proposed in this study will act as a major module of earthquake loss estimation method. Moreover, critical value of magnitude and width of transverse PGD (by which the full damage status of buried pipelines are induced) are estimated. With the use of regression curves of these values, pre evaluation of seismic safety of buried pipelines located within liquefaction hazardous region will be possible.
This study simulates the responses of large-scale bridge piers under pseudo-dynamic tests to investigate the performance of four types of numerical models that consider the nonlinear behavior of the pier and the rocking behavior of the footing. In the models, beam-column elements with plastic hinges are used for the pier, two types of foundation models (rotational spring and distributed spring models) are adopted for the footing behavior, and two types of viscous damping models (Rayleigh and dashpot models) are applied for energy dissipation. Results show that the nonlinear pier model combined with the distributed spring-dashpot foundation model can reasonably capture the behavior of the piers in the tests. Although the commonly used rotational spring foundation model adopts a nonlinear moment-rotation property that reflects the effect of footing uplift, it cannot suitably simulate the hysteretic moment-rotation response of the footing in the dynamic analysis once the footing uplifts. In addition, the piers are susceptible to cracking damage under strong seismic loading and the induced plastic response can provide contribution to earthquake energy dissipation.

One of the best choice for transportation of oil and gas at the end of rivers or seas is concrete pipelines. In this article, a concrete pipe at the end of river is assumed under the earthquake load. The Classic shell theory is applied for the modelling and the corresponding motion equations are derived by energy method. An external force induced by fluid around the pipe is asssumed in the final motion equations. For the solution of motion equations, the differential quadrature method (DQM) and Newmark method are applied for deriving the dynamic deflection of the pipe. The effects of various parameters including boundary conditions, fluid and length to thickness ratio are presented on the seismic response of the concrete pipe. The outcomes show that the clamped pipe has lower dynamic deflection with respect to simply pipe. In addition, with the effect of fluid, the dynamic defelction is increased significantly.

Recent earthquakes worldwide show that a significant portion of the earthquake shaking happens in the vertical direction. This phenomenon has raised significant interests to consider the vertical ground motion during the seismic design and assessment of the structures. Strong vertical ground motions can alter the axial forces in the columns, which might affect the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) members. This is particularly important for non-ductile RC frames, which are very vulnerable to earthquake-induced collapse. This paper presents the detailed nonlinear dynamic analysis to quantify the collapse risk of non-ductile RC frame structures with varying heights. An array of non-ductile RC frame architype buildings located in Los Angeles, California were designed according to the 1967 uniform building code. The seismic responses of the architype buildings subjected to concurrent horizontal and vertical ground motions were analyzed. A comprehensive array of ground motions was selected from the PEER NGA-WEST2 and Iran Strong Motions Network database. Detailed nonlinear dynamic analyses were performed to quantify the collapse fragility curves and collapse margin ratios (CMRs) of the architype buildings. The results show that the vertical ground motions have significant impact on both the local and global responses of non-ductile RC moment frames. Hence, it is crucial to include the combined vertical and horizontal shaking during the seismic design and assessment of non-ductile RC moment frames.
