In this paper, we consider the diffuse type of indoor wireless optical communication (WOC) system. To find the channel characteristics of indoor wireless infrared communication system, we investigate the simulation process to get the impulse response of diffuse type and analyze the scenario of the indoor structure which we have built. The simulation results of the impulse response include power ratio and time delay due to bounce times. We get and discuss the receiving power distribution according to six configurations which have different transmitter and receiver positions and reflection coefficients of the indoor structure assumed. The results of this paper are useful to design the indoor wireless optical communication systems.

In this paper, an analysis method for indoor optical wireless channel properties based on photon model is presented for characterization of communication environment. In contrast to radio waves, optical waves have very short wave-lengths and very high frequencies, so that material properties become important. Channel models including diffuse reflections and absorption effects due to material surface textures make conventional electromagnetic wave analysis methods based on ray tracing consume enormous time. To overcome these problems, an analysis method using photon model is presented that approximates light intensity by a density of photons. The photon model ensures that simulation time is within a predictable limit.

In this paper, we proposed and demonstrated an indoor visible-light communication system using an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The main idea is based on that the LEDs can be used not only for lighting but also for free-space optical communications. Because LEDs offer advantageous properties such as high brightness, reliability, lower power consumption and long lifetime, the indoor visible-light communication systems are going to provide high quality of service by the high radiation power of the LED lighting. Prototype of simplex channel for audio and the full-duplex channel for text message were developed. Results indicates the viability of creating inexpensive free-space optical communication transceivers that might be embedded in commercial light products to supports indoor wireless networking.

In this paper, an asynchronous multi-rate optical wireless pulse position modulation-code division multiple access (PPM-CDMA) is proposed for an indoor non-directed diffuse channel. As a signature sequence for CDMA, an optical orthogonal code (OOC) is used and an interference cancellation scheme is applied to improve the bit error rate. It is known that the optical PPM-CDMA has advantages due to its power efficiency. Moreover, it provides multi-rate services by varying the modulation level with fixed pulse duration. In the proposed multi-rate PPM-CDMA system with fixed pulse duration, chip rate and sampling time do not change for each transmission rate and this simplifies overall system structure.
Under indoor environment, in case that wireless optical LAN does not obtain the line-of-sight between transmitter and receiver, hemi-spherical lens or reflector must be adopted to get broader beam width. The beam tilt and the fluctuations in amplitude and phase of optical signal through indoor-space occur due to the turbulene. This fading often results in unacceptably large bit error probabilities and thus performance degradation of wireless optical communications. In this paper, when the spherical filter at the front-end of transmitter and receiver is used for wireless optical channel not satisfying line-of-sight, the signal-to-noise ratio as to zenithal angle and the effect from the turbulence due to indoor temperature are investigated.

Diffuse wireless optical communication offers more robust optical links in terms of coverage and shadowing than line-of-sight links. However, traditional diffuse wireless infrared (IR) transceiver systems are more susceptible to multi-path distortion and great power decrease, which results in limiting high-speed performance. Multi-beam is an effective technique to compensate for multi-path distortion in a wireless infrared environment. The goal of this paper is to analyze the transmission characteristics by replacing traditional diffuse system (TDS) which contains single wide angle transmitter and single element receiver by system consisting of three-beam transmitter and non-imaging receiver (TNS) attached with compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). In the simulation, we use the recursive model developed by Barry and Kahn and build the scenario based on 10 different cases which have been listed in Table 1. Moreover, we also check the reliability of the TNS diffuse link channel by BER test on the basis of different receiver positions and room sizes. The simulation results not only show the basic transmission characteristics of TNS diffuse link, but also are references to design more efficient and reliable indoor infrared transmission systems.

White LEDs(Light Emitting Diode) offer advantageous properties such as high brightness, improved reliability, lower power consumption, and long lifetimes. An LED is an electronic device that converts an electrical signal into a tight signal and is used not only in Optical Communication Indoor wireless optical illuminating rooms, but also for wireless optical communication systems. Currently, studies about these white LEDs have been being progressed, and in this raper, we discuss the multiplex and the multiple access method of VLC(Visible Light Communication) systems using white LEDs. In proposed system, CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) apples to VLC system to reduce interference of VLC system, and improve capacity. The superiority of OOK modulation is presented in analysis of results by comparing VLC-CDMA communication system using OOK(On-off keying) modulation and BPSK modulation in AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) channel and Diffuse channel. And we investigate the significance of a solution of interference by multipath by comparing BER in multipath channel and AWGN channel. In the proposed system, we assume Directed LOS(Line Of Sight) and Diffuse Link, and suppose VLC-CDMA using OOC(Optical Orthogonal Code) as methods to increase efficiency of system by removing ISI(Inter Symbol Interference) caused by multiple access, optical spreading code, and also present an analysis of its performance.
In this paper, we newly developed a byte-inverted transmission method for flicker-free visible light communication (VLC). The VLC transmitter sends original data in the former half period of the clock, and inverted data and in the latter half period of the clock. The VLC receiver receives the original data in the in the former half period of the clock. In this system, we used 480Hz clock that was generated from the 60Hz power line. The average optical power of the LED array in the transmitter is constant, thus flicker-free, in the observation time longer than the period of the clock that is about 2ms. This period is shorter than the maximum flickering time period (MFTP) of 5ms that is generally considered to be safe. This configuration is very useful in constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using LED light because it is flicker-free and does not require additional transmission channel for clock transmission.
A general method for the evaluation of the symbol error probability (SER) of ultra wideband (UWB) systems with various kind of modulation schemes (N-PAM, M-PPM, Bi-Orthogonal), in presence of multipath channel, multiuser and strong narrowband interference, is presented. This method is shown to be able to include all the principal multiaccess techniques proposed so far for UWB, time hopping (TH), direct sequence (DS) and optical orthogonal codes (OOC). A comparison between the performance of these multiple access and modulation techniques is given, for both ideal Rake receiver and minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer. It is shown that for all the analyzed multiple access schemes, a Rake receiver exhibits a high error floor in presence of narrowband interference (NBI) and that the value of the error floor is in-fluenced by the spectral characteristics of the spreading code. As expected, an MMSE receiver offers better performance, representing a promising candidate for UWB systems. When the multiuser interference is dominant, all multiple access techniques exhibit similar performance under high-load conditions. If the number of users is significantly lower than the spreading factor, then DS outperforms both TH and OOC. Finally 2PPM is shown to offer better performance than the other modulation schemes in presence of multiuser interference; increasing the spreading factor is proposed as a more effective strategy for SER reduction than the use of time diversity.

In this paper, we analyzed the main factors that affect the performance in Visible Light Communication (VLC) system. Generally, published papers of VLC system have been studies to focus on increased data rates, transmission distance and modulation scheme. Therefore, in order to analyze detailed environment for VLC system, we was performed to analyze the performance of a major impact on the VLC system according to communication distance and the angle of incidence. The computer simulation results show that the performance attenuation was confirmed.
