  • In this paper, we suggest an Iris recognition system with an excellent recognition rate and confidence as an alternative biometric recognition technique that solves the limit in an existing individual discrimination. For its implementation, we extracted coefficients feature values with the wavelet transformation mainly used in the signal processing, and we used neural network to see a recognition rate. However, Scale Conjugate Gradient of nonlinear optimum method mainly used in neural network is not suitable to solve the optimum problem for its slow velocity of convergence. So we intended to enhance the recognition rate by using Levenberg-Marquardt Back-propagation which supplements existing Scale Conjugate Gradient for an implementation of the iris recognition system. We improved convergence velocity, efficiency, and stability by changing properly the size according to both convergence rate of solution and variation rate of variable vector with the implementation of an applied algorithm.

  • In this paper. we propose a method of confidence measure fusion under Bayesian framework for speech recognition. Centralized and distributed schemes are considered for confidence measure fusion. Centralized fusion is feature level fusion which combines the values of individual confidence scores and makes a final decision. In contrast. distributed fusion is decision level fusion which combines the individual decision makings made by each individual confidence measuring method. Optimal Bayesian fusion rules for centralized and distributed cases are presented. In isolated word Out-of-Vocabulary (OOV) rejection experiments. centralized Bayesian fusion shows over 13% relative equal error rate (EER) reduction compared with the individual confidence measure methods. In contrast. the distributed Bayesian fusion shows no significant performance increase.

  • This paper proposes a method for recognizing both phoneme and emotion using a common neural network and a multi-task training method for the common neural network. The common neural network performs the same function for both recognition tasks, which corresponds to the structure of multi-information recognition of human using a single auditory system. The multi-task training conducts a feature modeling that is commonly applicable to multiple information and provides generalized training, which enables to improve the performance by reducing an overfitting occurred in the conventional individual training for each information. A method for increasing phoneme recognition performance is also proposed that applies weight to the phoneme in the multi-task training. When using the same feature vector and neural network, it is confirmed that the proposed common neural network with multi-task training provides higher performance than the individual one trained for each task.

  • Objective: The goal of this thesis is to design the interaction structure and framework of system to recognize sign language. Background: The sign language of meaningful individual gestures is combined to construct a sentence, so it is difficult to interpret and recognize the meaning of hand gesture for system, because of the sequence of continuous gestures. This being so, in order to interpret the meaning of individual gesture correctly, the interaction structure and framework are needed so that they can segment the indication of individual gesture. Method: We analyze 700 sign language words to structuralize the sign language gesture interaction. First of all, we analyze the transformational patterns of the hand gesture. Second, we analyze the movement of the transformational patterns of the hand gesture. Third, we analyze the type of other gestures except hands. Based on this, we design a framework for sign language interaction. Results: We elicited 8 patterns of hand gesture on the basis of the fact on whether the gesture has a change from starting point to ending point. And then, we analyzed the hand movement based on 3 elements: patterns of movement, direction, and whether hand movement is repeating or not. Moreover, we defined 11 movements of other gestures except hands and classified 8 types of interaction. The framework for sign language interaction, which was designed based on this mentioned above, applies to more than 700 individual gestures of the sign language, and can be classified as an individual gesture in spite of situation which has continuous gestures. Conclusion: This study has structuralized in 3 aspects defined to analyze the transformational patterns of the starting point and the ending point of hand shape, hand movement, and other gestures except hands for sign language interaction. Based on this, we designed the framework that can recognize the individual gestures and interpret the meaning more accurately, when meaningful individual gesture is input sequence of continuous gestures. Application: When we develop the system of sign language recognition, we can apply interaction framework to it. Structuralized gesture can be used for using database of sign language, inventing an automatic recognition system, and studying on the action gestures in other areas.

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in personalized services tailored to an individual's preferences. This has led to ongoing research aimed at recognizing and leveraging an individual's personality traits. Among various methods for personality assessment, the OCEAN model stands out as a prominent approach. In utilizing OCEAN for personality recognition, a multi modal artificial intelligence model that incorporates linguistic, paralinguistic, and non-linguistic information is often employed. This paper examines the impact of the margin value set for extracting facial areas from video data on the accuracy of a personality recognition model that uses facial expressions to determine OCEAN traits. The study employed personality recognition models based on 2D Patch Partition, R2plus1D, 3D Patch Partition, and Video Swin Transformer technologies. It was observed that setting the facial area extraction margin to 60 resulted in the highest 1-MAE performance, scoring at 0.9118. These findings indicate the importance of selecting an optimal margin value to maximize the efficiency of personality recognition models.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new multi-view human recognition method based on face and gait features detection algorithm. For getting the position of moving object, we used the different of two consecutive frames. And then, base on the extracted object, the first important characteristic, walking direction, will be determined by using the contour of head and shoulder region. If this individual appears in camera with frontal direction, we will use the face features for recognition. The face detection technique is based on the combination of skin color and Haar-like feature whereas eigen-images and PCA are used in the recognition stage. In the other case, if the walking direction is frontal view, gait features will be used. To evaluate the effect of this proposed and compare with another method, we also present some simulation results which are performed in indoor and outdoor environment. Experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm has better recognition efficiency than the conventional sing]e view recognition method.

  • In this paper, we describe a modularized neuroclassifier for enhancing the recognition accuracy of mixed printed and handwritten numerals. This classifier combines four modularized subclassifiers using multi-layer perceptron module. The input of each subclassifier is comprised of a group of specialized feature sets. On applying this method to combining several subclassifiers for unconstrained handwritten numerals, the experimental result shows that the performance of individual subclassifier can be improved. In winner-take-all voting method, the result of subclassifier having the highest RF value is selected as the output. The generality of this classifier is tested with 1,080 printed and 3,000 handwritten numerals that was not shown in training the neural networks. Experimental results show 98.2% recognition rate. The typical recognition test with a threshold value(RF=1.5) has shown 97% recognition, 1% substitution and 2% rejection rates.
