Characteristics of food garbage discharged from primary schools in Seoul Metropolitan city were analysed from a recycling point of view. The results of study are epitomized as follows : 1. Factors of generation of food garbage are mainly an unbalanced diet habit, indifference of class teachers, and worn-out cooking equipments. 2. Measures of reduction are principally a written message to parents, broadcasting in the school, and instructions. 3. Methods of recycling are mainly feed stuff, composting by school itself, composting on commission, and making feed stuff on commission. 4. Obstacles of food garbage recycling are a nasty smell of composting apparatus, an excessive fuel consumption of composting apparatus, a high concentration of salt, and an unstable demand for feed stuff and compost produced from food garbage. 5. Correlation factors are like follows : the number of feeding children and food garbage weight after cooking is 0.35, total food garbage generated and monthly treatment cost of food garbage is 0.20, individual school lunch expenses and food garbage weight after cooking is -0.10, individual school lunch expenses and food garbage generated per capita is 0.02, and individual school lunch expenses and monthly treatment cost of food garbage is 0.03.
Modern people spend most of time at indoor space, such as office or classroom. Especially, occupants are exposed to the airtight indoor air quality (IAQ) for a long time, At present, many studies on the air-conditioning systems are more focused on the individual thermal comfort than the thermal efficiency due to increase of the concern of health. There are several factors which are influenced thermal comfort, such as temperature, humidity, convection and air movement, etc. Also, the individual factor, such as age, gender, Physical constitution and habit, should be considered. The 4-way cassette type air conditioner is known to bring out better performance about thermal comfort than the traditional one. This study is performed on the higher ceiling environment than the common buildings or classrooms. Also, this study analyzed on the Indoor thermal comfort by diffusing direction of 4-way cassette air conditioner with various discharge angles, $45^{\circ},\;50^{\circ},\;55^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$. Using a commercial code, FLUENT, three-dimensional transient air thermal flow fields are calculated with appropriate wall boundary conditions and standard $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model. Results of velocity and temperature distributions are graphically depicted with various discharge angles.

Recently there is growing concern regarding the service industry in Korea, especially the food service industry. The form of food service industry has become larger and speciallized by means of either implementing marketing programme in individual companies or the entrepreneurs' possesstion of chain stores. The South Korean construction industry has shown a high proportion of industrial accidents (approximately 28% of whole injuries) and the continuously increasing accident rate. Although many safety research emphasized that the 3E (Enforcement, Education, and Engineering) approach is a potential solution to enhance workplace safety, there should be benefits to consider psychological (i.e., Emotional) effects on the safety performance since most construction works are human-oriented. Thus, understanding construction workers' psychological conditions can be a priority. This research studied the relationships between psychological conditions-which cover stress, personal temperament, emotional disturbance, and drinking habit-and specific safety-related factors including safety motivation and knowledge, and safety performance of individual workers at a construction site. This study conducted a survey of 430 respondents and analyzed the data with the multiple linear regressions. The results imply persistence, trait anxiety, and problem-focused coping style are the critical factors that should be controlled for enhancing jobsite safety. Finally, the research outcomes could be applied to build a strategic safety management plan for a construction manager.

This research has attempted to provide the basic data of health education in middle school students whose positions are very important in health promotion of the whole people. Especially, we are focused on the relationship between their individual family environment and health promotion behaviour. We have surveyed and collected all the information of the effects which has come from the family environment, and given the period from 22nd of May to 27Th with 375 boys and girl students who live in the cities and suburbs of Chung Cheong Buk-D, and used SPSS program in the analyse of the information. The conclusions were as follows; 1. Gender, the residential area, the living pattern with parents, and religion have showed very close effects in the promotion health behavior of the middle school students. 2. Statistically, explained health promotion behavior has got 59% and hygiene and daily life habit in inferior group has 48% with these rates, there should be a special management on those factors. 3. The responsibility according to the value direction factors of home has showed relationship as follows; $\circ$ hygiene and daily life habit(p<.001) $\circ$ communicable disease control(p<.01) $\circ$ mental health(p<.05) $\circ$ health promotion behavior(p<.001) The above results showed that the middle school students health promotion behavior were affected by the responsibility according to the value direction factors of family, the responsibility according to the group characteristics factors of family and psychological process factors of family. With this result, family environment is essential factor for students abilities of building up his/hers health promotion behavior.
It is well known that smoking habit is hazardous to health, especially for juvenile. The present study on smoking behavior of high school students in Seoul has two major objectives. The first objective is to find out the smoking behavior of high school students in Seoul. Toward this objective, individual's smoking experience has been examined as ever smoking and never smoking. The second objective is to determine the variables associated with their smoking behavior at the individual, family and school environment levels. For the data collection, the survey was carried out for the four high schools in Seoul from September 15 through October 15, 1982. The major findings are summarized as follows: 1. Smoking behavior of the students 1) Out of 1,278 respondents, 30.2% of them were found to be current smokers and 29.3% of them were former smokers. This implies that around 60% of school students in Seoul have experienced smoking. 2) A significant differences in the current smoking rates between two types of the school students were shown as 19.3% for day-time school and 42% for night-time school. 3) In terms of the current smoking behavior, the students who don't live with parents were higher in smoking rate than those of the living with parents. 2. Attitudes and knowledge about smoking 1) Attitudes of students toward smoking in high school days were shown that around 17% of them agreed with it and around 64% of them disagreed with it. 2) Around 99% of the respondents answered that their smoking is harmful for health. A source of the information about negative effects of smoking on health was 'Radio and TV' (23.9%) as the most influential, 'school teacher' (20.9%), 'Newspaper' (18.2%) and so on. 3. Behavioral analysis for the current smokers 1) The factors affected for motivation in the first smoking were 'curiosity' (59.7%), 'temptation of friend' (19.7%), 'resistance feeling, (7.1%), 'merely interest and pleasure' (6%) respectively. 2) The time of the first smoking was 'third grade of Junior-high school' (31.5%) as highest, 'first grade of Senior-high school' (23.7%) and 'second grade of Junior-high school' (14.7%). 3) An average daily number of cigarettes consuming of current smokers was seven cigarettes. 4. Family and school-mates influences on individual's smoking behavior 1) The data revealed a significant relationship between student's smoking and their parent's smoking behavior. Around 75% of the students whom both parents are smoking have experienced cigarette smoking. It was found that the individual's smoking behavior was influenced by his sibling. Around 65% of the students whom brothers are smoking have experienced cigarette smoking. 2) The 'Smoking-Index' of friendship network or a group explained individual's smoking behavior in the group. The result of dyad analysis of smoking behavior in the friendship network showed that a high score of 'Smoking-Index' tended to be explained an adoption of smoking behavior at the individual level in the group. on the other hand, a low score of 'Smoking-Index' explained non-smoking behavior in the group.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to find the level of physical relaxation of individual subject by monitoring psychophysiological biofeedback to different types of mattresses. And, the study also aims to find a protocol to make a selection of the best mattress based on the measured information. Background: In Korea, there are an increasing number of people using western style bed. However, they are often fastidious in choosing the right mattress for them. In fact, people use their past experience with their old mattress as well as the spontaneous experience they encounter in a show room to finally decide to buy a bed. Method: Total five mattresses were tested in this study. After measuring the elasticity of the mattresses, they were sorted into five different classes. Physiological and psychological variables including Electromyography (EMG), heart rates (HR), oxygen saturations (SaO2) were used. In addition, the peak body pressure concentration rate was used to find uncomfortably pressured body part. Finally, the personal factors and subjective satisfaction were also examined. A protocol was made to select the best mattress for individual subject. The selection rule for the protocol considered all the variables tested in this study. Results: The result revealing psychological comfort range of 0.68 to 0.95, dermal comfort range of 3.15 to 6.07, back muscle relaxation range of 0.25 to 1.64 and personal habit range of 2.0 to 3.4 was drawn in this study. Also a regression model was developed to predict biofeedback with the minimal use of biofeedback devices. Moreover results from the proposed protocol with the regression equation and subjective satisfaction were compared with each other for validation. Ten out of twenty subjects recorded the same level of relaxation, and eight subjects showed one-level difference while two subjects showed two-levels difference. Conclusion: The psychophysiological variables and suitability selection process used in this study seem to be used for selecting and assessing ergonomic products mechanically or emotionally. Application: This regression model can be applied to the mattress industry to estimate back muscle relaxation using dermal, psychophysiology and personal habit values.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of a nutrition education focused on Food Exchange System for the higher grades elementary children. Nutrition education lessons (40 min/lesson, 4 times), '5 major nutrients and functions', '6 food groups', 'daily needed energy and food exchange units', 'good choice of snacks and balanced exercise' were provided to elementary students (5th grade students). This research was based on the data from two groups of elementary school children in the 'education' group (n = 31) and 'non-education' group (n = 31). We assessed the changes in dietary attitude, food habit and nutrition knowledge using questionnaire and nutrient intake using 24hr recall method by nutrition education using the developed pamphlet. After education, there was a significant difference in the dietary attitude score only in attitude of 'balanced meal' (p < 0.001) in the education group compared to the non-education group. In food habit, there were significant positive changes in the type of breakfast and in the priority of choosing snack in the educated group. In nutrition knowledge, there were significant increases in scores of 'function of carbohydrate' (p < 0.05), 'function of fat' (p < 0.01), 'function of vitamin' (p < 0.01), 'foods of carbohydrate' (p < 0.01), and 'foods of vitamin' (p < 0.01) in the educated group. After education, carbohydrate: protein: fat (CPF) ratio was significantly different between the two groups (education group, 59 : 16 : 26 vs. non-education group, 63 : 15 : 23). In evaluation of nutrient intake by Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans (KDRIs), there were significant positive effects in energy (p < 0.05), thiamin (p < 0.05), riboflavin (p < 0.05), vitamin C (p < 0.05), phosphorus (p < 0.01), Fe (p < 0.01) and zinc (p < 0.01) in the education group compared to the non-education group. In conclusion, the developed 4 times' nutritional education pamphlet focused on individual daily energy requirements and food exchange units using food exchange system for higher grades' elementary student may positively change nutrition knowledge and dietary intakes.
