  • Approximately equivalent to character disorder or character neuroses or behavioral reaction. For a discussion of the term as used currently, in the 1968 revision of psychiatric nomenclature(DSM-II). In DSM-I(1952 nomenclature), this term referred to those cases in which the personality, in its struggle for adjustment to internal and external stresses, utilized primarily a pattern of action or behavior rather than symptoms in the mental, somatic or emotional spheres. There is minimal subjective anxiety and little or no sense of distress. As thus defined, there are three main groups of personality disorder, personality pattern disturbance, personality trait disturbance and sociopathic, personality disturbance. Morton Prince asks whether a subconscious process can perform the same function as are ordinarily performed by conscious intelligence that is to say memory, perception, reasoning, imagination, volition, affectivity, etc? He cites clinical material at great length, concluding that the quality of the functions performed they frequently exhibit, that which is characteristic of intelligence.

  • Safety education, which aims to cultivate an understanding of safety, to help acquire safety skills, and to improve attitude toward safety, is an important safety measure that doesn't entail restrictions to be carried out efficiently. Furthermore, safety education is perceived to be the most preferred measure in reducing the occurrence of accident. The current practice of safety education In construction sites, however, is all formal and has no substance. Safety education became a mere boring time to workers since the material is not related to them, and does not reflect the individual personalities, which cannot induce voluntary participation of workers. Thus, it is vital to develop various safety education models suitable for individual personalities of construction workers. This study aims to provide the basic data necessary to establish safety education models according to individual personalities of construction workers. On this, the study seeks to present a model for safety education complying with individual personality of construction workers by a survey using questionnaires and statistical analyses to workers on the construction sites.

  • Although many studies have focused on dietary habits and behaviors among children, few have looked at individual dietary behaviors and food preferences and their relationships with personality traits. This study examined the relationships between children's dietary behaviors, food preferences and personality traits using a random sample of 236 sixth graders in Chuncheon. Results showed a high prevalence of undesirable dietary behaviors among children: 42.8% of the children had skipped breakfast at least twice a week, 53% had overeaten, 45.8% had eaten irregularly, and 66.5% had eaten an unbalanced meal. These undesirable dietary behaviors were negatively associated with such personality traits as sociability, responsibility, emotional stability, activity, and superiority. When asked about food preference, fruits were most popular while vegetables were least desirable. Total food preference scores were positively correlated with emotional stability (r=.204), activeness (r=.247), sociability (r=.156), responsibility (r=.249), and superiority (r=.133). Preference for meats had negative correlations with responsibility (r=-.133), sociability (r=-.146), and superiority (r=-.132), while preference for vegetables was positively correlated with these personality traits (r=.292, .244, and .230, respectively). In conclusion, the more desirable dietary behaviors and the higher total food preference scores, the more positive the child's personality traits. In addition, preference for vegetables was associated with positive personality traits. The findings suggest the need for continuous attention and guidance on desirable dietary habits for school children both at home and at school.

On the assumption that smile aesthetics are closely related to individual physical condition and psychological state, this study investigated the correlation between personality factors and smile scores. The Personality Factor Questionnaire test was administered to 60 university students (male : 30, female : 30) who have no teeth missing, no experience of orthodontic or prosthodontic treatment and good dentition. Then, portraits were taken in a full smile. Esthetic smile scores were estimated by 10 appraisers who were dentists. These scores were analyzed statistically using the SAS program. The following results were obtained. 1. Personality factors of Warmth, Stableness, Surgency, Boldness, Untroubled-adequacy, Group-dependence, Relaxation, Extraversion, Low anxiety were positively correlated to the aesthetic level of smile. 2. For females, personality factors had greater influence on smile aesthetics, whereas male smile aesthetics were less influenced by personality factors.

This study also examines the mediating role of perceived stress in the relationship between the five personality factors and psychological well-being of college students. Methods: The subjects of the study were 210 college students (94 males and 116 females), and a self-report questionnaire was conducted. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: Three personality factors(openness, neuroticism, and agreeableness) and perceived stress were found to have a significant effect on college students' psychological well-being. Perceived stress partially mediated the relationship between personality factor 2(neuroticism and agreeableness) and psychological well-being. Conclusions: This study should be supported by health education or related efforts that can improve individual personality characteristics and cognitive flexibility by exploring intrapersonal factors that can affect psychological well-being of college students.

  • Although it is known that there are personality characteristic variances in the sensitivity to environmental feedback, the trait individual difference has scarcely been explored in the context of recognition memory decision. The present study investigated this issue by examining the relationship between the feedback-based adaptive flexibility of recognition criterion positioning and personality differences in general sensitivity to non-laboratory outcomes. Experiment 1 demonstrated that veridical feedback itself had little effect on the recognition decision criterion whereas Experiment 2 demonstrated that biased feedback manipulations selectively restricted to high confidence errors, induced shifts even in the overall Old/New category criterion. Critically, individual differences in stable personality characteristic linked to reward seeking(Behavioral Activation System-BAS) and anxiety avoidance (Behavioral Inhibition System-BIS) has been shown to predict the sensitivity of subjects to this form of feedback-induced criterion learning. This data further support the idea that incremental reinforcement-based learning mechanism not often considered important during explicit recognition decisions may play a key role in criterion setting.
