  • The major limitation of the traditional Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) is that interface is mainly focused on the cognitive factors. However, the new direction of ITS is shifting form the cognitive perspectives to the motivational perspectives reflecting the individual differences. In this study, the specific design guidelines for motivational interface of ITS are proposed to promote learner's motivation to learn during the interaction with the ITS. First, ITS should be able to reflect individual differences in cognitive abilities, interest and motivation, and ongoing changes of the interestingness and comprehensibility during learning activities. Second, it is essential for ITS to guarantee learner controllability, diverse learning activities, curiosity, self-relevance, and challenge to enhance the level of motivation and situational interest. Third, the game-like properties are also needed to maximize the motivational effect of learning with ITS.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate factors influencing trust on internet shopping mall and to examine whether these factors on trust have differences between Korean and Chinese users. Based on the literature reviews, this study employs six factors in two groups of influencing factors, web-site characteristics and individual characteristics as key determinants of trust in internet shopping mall. Analysis of 470 responses (Korean: 320 users, Chinese: 150 users) of survey questionnaire indicates the following: In terms of the relationship between web-site characteristics factors and the trust, the results showed clear differences between Korean and Chinese samples. For the Korean samples, transaction security and interactivity were the only significant influencing factors. For the Chinese samples, perceived reputation and perceived size were the only significant factors. In terms of individual characteristics factors, the influencing factors were found identical for the samples. Both propensity to trust and familiarity were significant factors in both Korean and Chinese samples. Based on the findings, managerial implications are discussed in building user trust in internet shopping mall in Korean and Chinese market.

  • Music functions as a catalyst for various emotional experiences. Among the numerous genres of music, film music has been reported to induce strong emotional responses. However, the effectiveness of film music in evoking different types of emotions and its relationship in terms of which musical elements contribute to listeners' perception of intended emotion have been rarely investigated. The purpose of this study was to examine the congruence between the intended emotion and the perceived emotion of listeners in film music listening and to identify musical characteristics of film music that correspond with specific types of emotion. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate possible relationships between participants' identification responses and personal musical experience. A total of 147 college students listened to twelve 15-second music excerpts and identified the perceived emotion during music listening. The results showed a high degree of congruence between the intended emotion in film music and the participants' perceived emotion. Existence of tonality and modality were found to play an important role in listeners' perception of intended emotion. The findings suggest that identification of perceived emotion in film music excerpts was congruent regardless of individual differences. Specific music components that led to high congruence are further discussed.

  • The Folk-dress of some parts of the traditional style is extremely focused and puts value on protecting itself against changes. Generally rural areas are much more conservative politically economically, and culturally. Its environment is sluggish and slow and daily routines change slowly. So they take friendly a position between a race and geographical and environmental differences which is expressed in the Folk-dress. Also, a dress is the most preferred individual object as a symbol of collective homogeneity. By those people who preserve these kinds of the individual objects and by those people who have ethnic conservation, folk-dress was handed down to the present age and the festival dress was used as a tool of ethnic tradition and binding. Therefore, 1 would like to study and research the differences between the folk-dress of the Lithuanian historical and geographical factors and the folk-dress of the surrounding north-eastern European countries. Especially when we compare these with the folk-dress in terms of historical, cultural. and political relationships between Lithuania and the north-eastern European countries, we can find out that they had a good effect on the folk-dress historically and culturally.

  • In order to study the foot deformity hallux valgus, the rate of which is currently increasing, 235 patients who were diagnosed with hallux valgus and treated in an orthopedic hospital in Seoul had their feet calibrated before and after surgery using 3d radio-scans. Data from 209 cases was analyzed and scored numerically. We scored 10 items for length, 4 for width, 3 for angle, and 2 for height, for a total of 20 items. Each individual's feet showed great variation in most of the items and significant differences after surgery, especially in regards to length and height, which increased after surgery. Angle, width, and length of the distal parts of the toes decreased after surgery. Based on the results of our analysis, we conclude that surgery brings about significant changes in structure and measurement of feet. This research confirmed that there is significant variation in foot form and individual differences based on lesion size and location and, thus, it is difficult for hallux valgus patients to find ready-made shoes that fit them properly. Foot changes before and after operation for hallux valgus were analyzed and the results quantified; our results should be considered during product design by shoe companies whose target is adult women.

  • Past studies in HCI explained the cultural characteristics of individual users by generalizing them at the country-level. However, since the usage of devices or online services, which are main research subjects for the HCI field, are personal, cultural categorization by countres may have limitations in explaining the personal behavior. This is because cultural characteristics of individuals may vary even within the same country; moreover, in may vary depending on the product of usage. Therefore, this exploratory study aims to suggest that there may be differences in cultural characteristics not only between countries but also between individuals and product of usage.

  • Psychological and physiological effects of the simulator sickness could be important bias factors for the sensibility evaluation. The purpose of the present study was to clear the differences of psychophysiological responses due to individual sensitivity of simulator sickness. The present experiment tried to investigate the simulator sickness objectively by observing the change of the simulator sickness for the different level of sickness groups (sick and non_sick group). The subjective evaluations using Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) and physiological responses were measured every five minutes when they were driving as 60km/h in the driving graphic simulator. Response level of the subjective evaluation for all subjects on the simulator sickness was linearly increased with time for every item, and the response level of sick group was bigger than that of non_sick group. When the analysis on central nervous system was done separately on the sick and the non_sick group, there was significant difference in the parameter $\theta$/total at Fz and Cz. Although the analysis on autonomic nervous system for all subjects showed the increased activation of sympathetic nervous system, there was no significant difference between the sick and non_sick group. In summary, it is necessary to select the subjects who feel less simulator sickness in order to be accurate sensibility evaluation. The parameters to distinguish between the sick and non_sick group were the change on $\theta$/total and subjective evaluation using SSQ.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate foodservice management of snacks as will as to evaluate nutrient intakes of young children from the snacks serried in early childhood educational institute. Two hundred and twenty-three snack items from 14 kindergartens and daycare centers were measured sewing size and analyzed for the nutritional values in addition to the general evaluation of the snack service management practice by the trained personnel. The results were as follow: The contents of most nutrients supplied from the snacks amounted to 10-15% of RDA (recommended dietary allowances for Koreans) except iron and niacin. And there were not any significant differences in the contents of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate between the morning and afternoon snacks. The energy and protein contents (as the % of RDA) of snacks sewed to children of 1-3 years old were turned out to be significantly higher than that sewed to the children of 4-6 years old since the portion amount of snacks per child was about the same regardless of the age and individual variation. There were significant differences in the contents of nutrient serried from the snacks among 14 kindergartens. Therefore, nutritional guidence including the standard portion amount for the kindergarten snacks considering the age, activities and individual variation should be developed for kindergarten teachers so that they can effectively manage snack service and provide good nutrition for young children.

  • The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of lactation stage and individual performance on milk cis-9, trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content in dairy cows. In experiment 1, the milk cis-9, trans-11 CLA content from dairy cows in early ($0.33{\pm}0.014%$), middle ($0.37{\pm}0.010%$), and late stages ($0.44{\pm}0.020%$) showed significant differences (p<0.05); and the individual contents of the major fatty acids, especially cis-9, trans-11 CLA in cows of the same lactation were also variable. In the second experiment design as a validation test, our results once again showed that the individual contents of cis-9, trans-11 CLA were various, and a difference of about 2-fold (0.55% vs 0.95%) was observed, although the animals were offered same diet. These data demonstrated that lactation stage and individual performance have considerable effects on milk cis-9, trans-11 CLA contents.
