백년초 분말을 첨가 제조한 양갱의 항산화활성과 품질 특성 (Antioxidative Capacity and Quality Characteristics of Yanggaeng added with Beaknyuncho (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten) Powder)

  • This study investigated the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of yanggaeng prepared with various amounts of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder (as ratios of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7% to the total materials). According to the results, the pH of yanggaeng decreased significantly with the addition of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder (p<0.001). Increasing the amount of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder in the yanggaeng tended to increased $^{\circ}Brix$ value (p<0.01). For color values, lightness (L) values were reduced by increasing the amount of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder, redness (a) and yellowness (b) while values were increased significantly (p<0.001). Texture measurement scores in terms of hardness, springness, and Adhesiveness for yanggaeng showed that sample groups were lower than those of the control group. Cohesivene and chewiness were higher in the additive group than in the control group. Antioxidant activities, evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging capacity, Nitrites cavenging activity, and total phenolic substances content increased when increased the amount of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder (p<0.001). Results of descriptive analysis showed that by increasing the amount of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder, some attributes such as the intensity of the color, sweet, hardness and chewiness increased (p<0.01). It concluded that yanggaeng containing Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten can be prepared with good sensory properties and antioxidant activities, and the addition of 3% Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder was found to be ideal. Sensory evaluation scores in terms of color, odor, taste, texture, and overall preference of groups with 3% of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder did not show any significant differences when compared to the control group. Based on the above results, this study suggests that the addition of 3% Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten powder may be the best substitution ratio for yanggaeng.

  • 한국 재래품종, 잡초형 벼인 샤례벼와 앵미 그리고 불복장미 등의 입형 종피색ㆍamy1ose 함량ㆍAlkali 붕양도 및 esterase 반응성 등 몇가지 벼 형질들을 검토하여 Indica의 범주에 속하는 것들이 있음을 밝히고 고농서와 근래 일본인들이 우리나라에서 채집 분류 보고한 기록들 중 Indica에 관한 것을 검토하였다. 이것을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 1920년대에 수집 보존되어 오는 한국 재래품종 중 분명히 Indica의 범주에 속하는 것들이 있다 2. 샤례벼 집단에서 분리 계통화한 것들 중에도 Indica 범주에 속하는 것들이 있다 3. 농가 포장에서 수집한 앵미 중에도Indica 범주에 속하는 것들이 있다. 4. 1302년 불복장미로 발견된 한 시료는 쌀의 형태와 amylose 함량으로 보아 당시 Japonica와 Indica가 혼재되었던 것으로 생각된다. 5. 과거의 기록과 보고를 검토하여 우리나라에는 Japonica 뿐만 아니라 Indica도 오래전부터 재배되었을 것으로 추론하였다.

Effect of automobile polluted soil on early seedling growth performance of Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.)

  • Effect of automobile polluted soil with five soil concentration (0 (Control), 25, 50, 75 and 100%) was observed on early seedling growth performance and biomass production of Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss). The treatment of 75% automobile polluted soil significantly (p < 0.05) decreased the seedling length (18.60 cm) of A. indica. The automobile polluted soil treatment with the concentration of 50% slightly increased the root length as compared to control. The automobile polluted soil treatment with the concentration of 25, 50, 75 and 100% negatively affected shoot length of A. indica as compared to control. The treatment of all concentration of automobile polluted soil progressively decreased the total leaf area A. indica as compared to control soil treatment. The automobile polluted soils also showed negative effects on biomass production of A. indica. The automobile polluted soil treatment at 25% concentration significantly (p < 0.05) affected shoot, leaves and seedling dry weight of A. indica as compared to control soil treatment. The order of relationship between production of A. indica's seedling dry weight and automobile polluted soil treatment was observed as root > shoot > leaves > total seedling.

A Feasibility Study on the Formation of the Permeable Reactive Biobarier treated with Beijerinckia indica

  • Authors evaluated the feasibility of a permeable reactive biobarrier (PRB) treated with biofilm formed by Beijerinckia indica (B.indica). This study focused on evaluating two potentials of B.indica for the requirements of PRB: reducing the hydraulic conductivity and degrading the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The hydraulic conductivity was estimated by rigid wall column test and finally the values were converted to the values of intrinsic permeability. The nutrient solution was passed through the biobarrier column to activate the bacterium and then leachate was in turn carried into the column to evaluate the durability of the biobarrier. Phenanthrene was selected as a representative substance of PAHs. The ability of degrading phenanthrene by B.indica was evaluated by two-phase partitioning bioreactor after estimating the possibility with two pretests: observing the colony formation and the optical density on glucose-free medium containing phenanthrene. With the results, B.indica produced large amount of strongly adhesive exopolysaccharides (EPS) and reduced several orders of magnitude of the hydraulic conductivity after 2 weeks of cultivation. Furthermore, about 1000mg/1 of phenanthrene could be degraded by B.indica in the two-phase partitioning bioreactor. In conclusion, the application of the bacterium, B.indica, was found to have a potential role of a PRB to retain and remove contaminants in porous media.

  • In this study, we evaluated the anti-oxidative, anti-wrinkle and whitening effect of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke extract. Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke was extracted by two different solvents which were n-hexane and ethyl acetate. The anti-oxidant activity was measured by free radical scavenging activity using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical). And the inhibitory activities of tyrosinase for whitening effect and collagenase for anti-wrinkle were investigated. For anti-oxidant activity and whitening activity, ethyl acetate fraction of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke extract showed more significant activity than n-hexane fraction of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke extract. For anti-wrinkle activity, ethyl acetate fraction of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke extract exhibited strong inhibition effects compared with reference. Therefore, Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke extract may be useful as a new antioxidant and anti-aging agent.

백년초 열매를 이용한 두부의 품질 특성 연구 (A Study on the Quality Characteristics of Soybean Curd Prepared with the Addition of Opuntia humifusa Fruit)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of soybean curd prepared with Opuntia ficus-indica fruit, freeze-dried Opuntia ficus-indica fruit powder, or heat-dried Opuntia ficus-indica fruit powder, without addition of a coagulant. The yield rates of the soybean curd were slightly decreased for the three curds containing Opuntia ficus-indica fruit; this was accompanied by a significant decrease in pH. Furthermore, the hardness and springiness of soybean curds coagulated with added freeze-dried Opuntia ficus-indica fruit powder or heat-dried Opuntia ficus-indica fruit powder were higher than the hardness and springiness of the coagulated controls. However, the cohesiveness and brittleness of two soybean curds were lower than for the controls, while the gumminess of the four soybean curds containing control fruit was the same. In terms of overall acceptability, the preferred soybean curd was the curd containing freeze-dried Opuntia ficus-indica fruit powder.

백년초 분말 첨가에 따른 국수의 품질특성 (Quality of Noodle Added Powder of Opuntia ficus-indica var. Saboten)

  • 백년초 분말을 각각 0%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.3% 및 0.5%의 비율로 첨가한 국수를 제조하여 일반성분, 수분함량, 색상 및 기계적 texture를 측정하고 관능검사를 행하였다. 백년초 첨가 국수의 수분함량은 모두 32∼33% 정도로 큰 차이가 없었다. 국수 대조구의 색상은 명도(L치) 74.21,적색도(a치) -2.40, 황색도(b치) 5.52였으며 백년초 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 명도(L치)는 감소하며, 적색도(a치)와 황색도(b치)는 약간 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 기계적 물성 측정 결과, 백년초 첨가량이 증가할수록 국수의 강도, 견고성, 부서짐성이 높아지는 경향이었다. 백년초 첨가 국수의 관능검사 결과, 색은 0.3%와 0.5% 첨가군에서 대조구보다 유의적으로 높은기호도를 나타내었다(p<0.05). 관능검사 결과, 국수의 기호도는 촉촉한 정도, 부드러움, 종합적인 기호도에서 백년초 0.3% 첨가군이 가장 높은 점수를 얻었다. 이상의 관능검사결과를 종합하면 국수 제조시 적정한 백년초 분말 첨가량은 0.3%가 가장 적당한 것으로 판단된다.

통일형수도와 일본형수도에 있어서 종근.분리근의 생육에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Growth of Excised Root between Indica- Japonica Hybrids and Japonica Type in Paddy Rice)

  • 일본형 수도, 통일형 수도 및 통일형 수도의 교배친 등을 공시하여 이의 종근으로부터 근단을 1cm로 절취한 분리근을 천전 등의 $\ulcorner$개량배지$\lrcorner$를 기본으로 하여 pH, 당농도, Casamino acid 농도 등을 달리한 oq지에 무균배양한 분리근의 생장 튿성을 비교하였던 바 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 분리근의 근장은 27$^{\circ}C$구에서는 일본형품종과 다수형 품종간에 별차이는 없었으나 3$0^{\circ}C$구에서는 일본형 수도에 비교해서 통일형 품종의 신장이 현저히 양호하였다. 2. 분리근의 건물중은 27$^{\circ}C$구 및 3$0^{\circ}C$구 공히 일본형 품종에 비교해서 통일형 품종이 현저하게 무거운 것으로 인정되었다. 3. 일본형 품종과 통일형 품종간에 나타난 분리근의 건물중 차이는 주로 측근발육의 양부에 따른 것으로 특히 2~3cm길이의 특근수에 차이가 인정되었다. 4. Casamino acid 반응에서 일본형 품종은 주근 및 측근의 생장이 0.2%구에서 양호하였으나, 통일형 품종에서는 대부분의 품종이 주근의 신장은 Casamino acid 무처리구에서 측근의 생장은 0.2%구에서 매우 양호하였다. 5. 분리근의 생장은 배지의 pH, 당농도 및 Casamino acid 농도 등을 달리한 경우에 있어서도 통일형 품종이 일본형 품종보다 양호하였다. 6. 통일형 품종의 교배친중 인도별 품종과 일본형 품종에 있어서 전자는 후자보다 분리근의 생장이 양호하였을 뿐만 아니라 Casamino acid반응이 통일형 품종과 거의 같은 경향인 것으로 나타났다.

생쥐 피질세포배양에서 Free Radical 유발 신경손상에 대한 손바닥선인장 및 삼백초의 보호효과 (Protective Effects of Opuntia Ficus-Indica and Saururus Chinensis on Free Radical-Induced Neuronal Injury in Mouse Cortical Cell Cultures)

  • The author examined whether the methanol extracts of Opuntia ficus-indica fruit and Saururus chinensis have the inhibitory action on xanthine/xanthine oxidase (X/XO)-, $FeCl_2/ascorbic$ acid- and arachidonic acid-induced neurotoxicity in mouse cortical cell cultures. The methanol extracts ($10\;{\mu}g/ml{\sim}1\;mg/ml$) of Opuntia ficus-indica and Saururus chinensis were exhibited 53-89% and $48{\sim}100%$ inhibitory action on X/XO-induced neurotoxicity, respectively. At the range of same concentration, both extracts also attenuated the $FeCl_2/ascorbic$ acid-induced neurotoxicity by $35{\sim}100%$ and $15{\sim}98%$, respectively. In arachidonic acid neurotoxicity, the methanol extract (1 mg/ml) of Opuntia ficus-indica and Saururus chinensis reduced neuronal injury by 22% and 38%, respectively. These results suggest that Opuntia ficus-indica fruit and Saururus chinensis may contribute the neuroprotection in certain free radical-mediated neuronal injury.
