According to the development of technology of the navigational equipments, many bridge equipments have been improved, however, marine accidents by human error have not been reduced. Therefore, a matter of primary concern is focused on whether bridge equipments of ships are ergonomically arranged to reduce errors due to human factors. As part of a design of IBS(Integrated Bridge System) standard, rules of the conning display to save time and additional movements to obtain important informations of a ship should be established as soon as possible. In the present study, ergonomic design factors for the conning display are studied through the survey of related works, heuristic evaluations, sketch method tests as well as questionnaires. Using these factors, new conning display was designed and the ergonomic indices were evaluated by comparing tests of the existing conning displays. It is found that the designed conning display obtained high ergonomic index showed better performance, therefore, the ergonomic index studied in the present paper can be used as a useful design standard in the conning display design procedures.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the effectiveness and the necessity of home visiting physical therapy through examining performance ability and functional changes in daily life activities by investigating the life of disabled persons living at home. Methods: After selecting 100 people with physical disabilities greater than level 3 and brain damage related disabilities living in Youngam-Gun, we conducted mobility tests according to a Modified Bathel Index (MBI), the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and floor and bed movements? for Activities of Daily Living evaluation. We did this before the experiment and after doing home visiting physical therapy for 90 minutes at a time, once a week for 6 months Results: 1) Persons who live in a bed are higher than those who live in a floor. There was a significant difference between persons who live in a floor and those who live in a bed in the change in MBI and BBS scores after home visiting physical therapy. 2) Those with a musculoskeletal disorder had a significantly different change in MBI and BBS according to the type of disease and kind of disability. Those with neuropathy had a significantly different change in MBI. Those with physical disabilities showed a significant difference in MBI and BBS. Conclusion: A home visiting physical therapist can cause an improved performance ability and lead to the ability of disabled persons living at home to carry out activities of daily livingin a large part and the study for brain lesion disabilities except physical disabilities and stroke which occupy large proportion of disabled persons should be done.
To explore the feasibility of eliminating the longitudinal rebars and stirrups by using ultra-high-performance fiber reinforcement concrete (UHPFRC) in concrete encased steel composite stub column, compressive behavior of UHPFRC encased steel stub column has been experimentally investigated. Effect of concrete types (normal strength concrete, high strength concrete and UHPFRC), fiber fractions, and transverse reinforcement ratio on failure mode, ductility behavior and axial compressive resistance of composite columns have been quantified through axial compression tests. The experimental results show that concrete encased composite columns with NSC and HSC exhibit concrete crushing and spalling failure, respectively, while composite columns using UHPFRC exhibit concrete spitting and no concrete spalling is observed after failure. The incorporation of steel fiber as micro reinforcement significantly improves the concrete toughness, restrains the crack propagation and thus avoids the concrete spalling. No evidence of local buckling of rebars or yielding of stirrups has been detected in composite columns using UHPFRC. Steel fibers improve the bond strength between the concrete and, rebars and core shaped steel which contribute to the improvement of confining pressure on concrete. Three prediction models in Eurocode 4, AISC 360 and JGJ 138 and a proposed toughness index (T.I.) are employed to evaluate the compressive resistance and post peak ductility of the composite columns. It is found that all these three models predict close the compressive resistance of UHPFRC encased composite columns with/without the transverse reinforcement. UHPFRC encased composite columns can achieve a comparable level of ductility with the reinforced concrete (RC) columns using normal strength concrete. In terms of compressive resistance behavior, the feasibility of UHPFRC encased steel composite stub columns with lesser longitudinal reinforcement and stirrups has been verified in this study.
Regulatory sentiment refers to the market's subjective evaluation of regulatory reform and is one of the most widely adopted indicators to those charged with implementing and diagnosing regulatory policies. The use of regulatory sentiment in advanced analysis has become universal, albeit it is often limited due to difficulties in articulating consistent and objective quantitative indicators that can meticulously reflect market sentiment overall. Thus, despite ample effort by scholars to read the economic impact of regulatory sentiment in the real economy, causal links are difficult to spot. To fill this gap in the literature, this study analyzes a regulatory sentiment index and economic performance indicators through a text analysis approach and by inspecting diverse tones in media articles. Using different stages of tests, the paper identifies a causal relationship between regulatory sentiment and actual economic activities as measured by private consumption, facility investment, construction investment, gross domestic investment, and employment. Additionally, as a result of analyzing one-unit impulse of regulatory perception, the initial impact on economic growth and private investment was found to be negligible; this was followed by a positive (+) response, after which it converged to zero. Construction investment showed a positive (+) response initially, which then rapidly changed to a negative (-) response and then converged to zero. Gross domestic investment as the initial effect was negligible after showing a positive (+) reaction. Unfortunately, the facility investment outcome was found to be insignificant in the impulse response test. Nevertheless, it can be concluded that it is necessary and important to increase the sensitivity to regulations to promote the economic effectiveness of regulatory reforms. Thus, instead of dealing with policies with the vague goal of merely improving regulatory sentiment, using regulatory sentiment as an indicator of major policies could be an effective approach.

Recently, in an effort to reduce the energy efficiency design index (EEDI), studies on energy saving devices (ESDs) have been conducted. In this study, we designed a post-device suitable for a KRISO container ship (KCS) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In order to increase the efficiency of the post-device, a twisted rudder was used, which has a proven performance (showing a 1.34% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots) in previous research at Pusan National University. In addition, an increase in efficiency was expected by the use of a rudder bulb, including the discontinuous section of the twisted rudder and a divergent propeller cap to prevent the contraction of the wake. The optimization criterion was the case where the delivery power was the least compared with the bare hull. We analyzed the cause of the efficiency increase through an analysis of the self-propulsion factor. The case study for optimization was divided into 4 types (1. clearance of the bulb and cap, 2. shape of the bulb, 3. size of the bulb and cap, and 4. asymmetric bulb). Finally, with a clearance of 50 mm from the ship, a spherical bulb with the cap having an angle of $5^{\circ}$, and an asymmetric rudder bulb with a bulb diameter of 1.2HH/1.4H (horizontal/vertical) showed a 2.05% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots. We will fabricate a post-device that will be optimized in the future and verify the performance of the post-device through model tests.

CAT (clear-air turbulence) forecasting algorithm, the Graphical Turbulence Guidance (GTG) system developed at NCAR (national center for atmospheric research), is evaluated with available observations (e.g., pilot reports; PIREPs) reported in South Korea during the recent 5 years (2003-2008, excluding 2005). The GTG system includes several steps. First, 44 CAT indices are calculated in the domain of the Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System (RDAPS) analysis data with 30 km horizontal grid spacing provided by KMA (Korean Meteorological Administration). Second, 10 indices that performed ten best forecasting scores are selected. Finally, 10 indices are combined by measuring the score based on the probability of detection, which is calculated using PIREPs exclusively of moderate-or-greater intensity. In order to investigate the best performance of the GTG system in Korea, various statistical examinations and sensitivity tests of the GTG system are performed by yearly and seasonally classified PIREPs. Performances of the GTG system based on yearly distributed PIREPs have annual variations because the compositions of indices are different from each year. Seasonal forecasting is generally better than yearly forecasting, because selected CAT indices in each season represent meteorological condition much more properly than applying the selected CAT indices to all seasons. Wintertime forecasting is the best among the four seasonal forecastings. This is likely due to that the GTG system consists of many CAT indices related to the jet stream, and turbulence associated with the jet stream can be activated mostly in wintertime under strong jet magnitude. On the other hand, summertime forecasting skill is much less than other seasons. Compared with current operational CAT prediction system (KITFA; Korean Integrated Turbulence Forecasting System), overall performance of the GTG system is better when CAT indices are selected seasonally.
Background: Despite the favorable geo-climatic potential of Cameroon, the national production of tilapia remains low due to poor tilapia growth reported by fish farmers. One of the underlying reasons is the early female maturation at a very small size and precocious breeding in earthen ponds, resulting in overpopulation which leads to stunted growth and therefore to the production of unmarketable fish size. Studies have shown that dietary supplementation of G. kola enhanced growth in young Clarias gariepinus and Oreochromis niloticus. It was also reported that G. kola inhibited spawning in Tilapia adult females. Therefore, this study sought to assess the effects of Garcinia kola as growth promoter and inhibitor of gonadal development in young Oreochromis niloticus. Methods: A total of 108 juveniles weighing $13.32{\pm}0.62g$ were randomly distributed in 9 hapas of 12 fishes each (9 females and 3 males) and fed for 70 days with three isonitrogenous diets, 40% crude protein with increasing Garcinia kola supplementation levels of 0 (normal diet), 6% and 10% (experimental diets). Physico-chemical parameters of the water (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and transparency) were measured twice a week. Every 14 days, fish were harvested, counted, and weighed. At the end of the experiment, three fish of each sex per replicate were sacrificed and their gonad and liver collected and weighed. Data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance repeated measure followed by Newman-Keuls multiple tests. Results: The results showed that all physico-chemical parameters of the water were within the recommended values for Tilapia culture. Tilapia fed 6% Garcinia kola supplemented diet displayed higher final body weight in males ($38.60{\pm}3.50g$) and females ($36.77{\pm}3.62g$) compared to those receiving normal diet ($36.23{\pm}1.36g$ and $25.87{\pm}3.32g$; respectively to the final body weight in males and females). The gonadosomatic index and hepatosomatic index indicated no significant variation in males while in females, these were significantly low in the experimental fish compared to control fish. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that supplementation of G. kola seeds in diets of young Tilapia improved growth performance and impaired gonadal development in females.

This study investigates the toxicity characteristics of two Non-Class 1E Cables (For security reasons, we refer to company A and company B) used in nuclear power plants according to the accelerated deterioration period. In accordance with NES 713 test equipment and standards, tests were carried out on non-aged cables and the cables subjected to 20- and 40-year-accelerated-deterioration; each of the cables was further classified into sheath and insulation. The test results showed that the toxicity indices of 20- and 40-year-accelerated-aged cables were higher than those for the non-aged cables, and 20-year-aged cables of both A and B companies showed the highest toxicity indices. This is attributed to the extensive emissions of carbon monoxide and halide gases such as hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide. Furthermore, to analyze the toxicity indices of sheath and insulation in detail, the US Department of Defense standard (MIL-DTL) was applied to determine whether the Toxicity index (T.I.) allowance was exceeded, and the results showed that the insulating materials emitted considerably more than the allowable limit.

This study was performed to investigate the impact of the Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Therapy on the upper limb function recovery of patients with stroke and their abilities to perform daily activities and to provide basic data for a long-term treatment. A total of 30 patients with hemiplegia that occurred due to stroke were recruited as subjects of the present study, and 15 patients were randomly assigned to a Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Therapy group and a conventional treatment group, respectively. And, tests were performed over four weeks, five times a week, and 30 minutes a session. Manual Function Test(MFT), Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale(FMA), and Korean-Modified Bathel Index(K-MBI) were used to measure the degree of the functional recovery before and after the experiment. According to the data of this study, in the upper limb function test, the Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Therapy group showed significant increase of the measurement values of MFT and FMA(p <.05), and when the difference between the two groups were compared, the upper limb function showed a statistically significant difference. In the daily activity performance test, only the Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Therapy group showed a significant improvement of K-MBI value(p <.05). Based on the results of the present study, it was demonstrated that the Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Therapy was effective in enhancing the upper limb functions and daily activity performance of patients with stroke.

Purpose: Anorexia is a common symptom in terminal cancer patients. Some data have suggested a role of visfatin in regulating feeding behavior. We studied the relationship of a serum visfatin level and anorexia in cancer patients provided with hospice care. Methods: After informed consent was obtained, 69 cancer patients over 20 years old at a hospice center were enrolled in the study from July 2009 to July 2010. We characterized patients by age, sex, body mass index, primary cancer site, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status, etc. Also, blood tests were performed to measure the level of hemoglobin, white blood cell (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), total cholesterol, albumin, lymphocyte count, glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), interukin-6, leptin and visfatin. Results: The mean age of subjects was 65.5 years old, According to univariate analysis, pulse, ECOG performance scale, opioid use and visfatin level were different between the anorexia and non-anorexic group (P<0.05). The median visfatin level was higher in the anorexia group than the good appetite group (P=0.0323). Serum visfatin concentrations were not related with either body mass index or serum leptin or total cholesterol levels, but it was negatively correlated with serum albumin levels (P=0.0198) and lymphocyte counts (P=0.0013). Conclusion: This study did not identify a novel link between visfatin levels and anorexia in cancer patients at a hospice.
