  • This research aims to inquire about local festival culture contents of France which are considered a successful case of cultural contents industry and will make a diagnosis regarding the applicability and concomitant problems in our country. It reviews French local festival and culture contents, represented by Bordeaux wine Festival. This research analyses the structure of storytelling and the emotional factors as communication and experience tool of historical and cultural resources in terms of cultural semiotics. The findings are as follows: First, it is about a strategy linked with historical and cultural resources as a package touristic product made of the tradition, history, cultural heritage, arts and winery experience. Second, it is about a storytelling strategy. The status of Bordeaux wine holds a splendid story originated in long historical background and benefits of nature. Third, it is about a strategy oriented to communication and experience. Fourth, it is about a strategy inducing fun and fantasy. A festival is a form of a play, and the play is the culture itself. The revitalization of local festivals which allow the increment of one's most personal happiness index is estimated to have the most crucial values and significance. Finally, the cases of European local festivals are considered to be worth benchmarking in many different domains in the sense that they create new contents by making interesting stories adapted from the past history.

  • In this study, the general components, particle size, starch content, hydrolysis index (HI), and estimated glycemic index (eGI) of 'Ilpum', a medium-amylose rice cultivar, were compared with those of 'Dodamssal', a high-amylose rice cultivar containing resistant starch. The volume weighted mean was significantly smaller in 'Dodamssal' than in 'Ilpum'. The resistant starch content of 'Dodamssal' was about 13% and there were no differences in terms of particle size. The HI and eGI were found to be significantly higher in 'Ilpum', and there were no statistical differences in 'Dodamssal' except for samples with an average particle size of less than 50 ㎛. Therefore, 'Dodamssal' was concluded to be valuable as a health-food material since it is easily ground evenly when processed into rice flour, contains resistant starch, and has a low glycemic index. These results could be used as basic data for developing processed 'Dodamssal' rice-based products.

  • This study was conducted to identify optimal concentrations of N (nitrogen) and K (Potassium) fertilizers on growth, yield and quality of melon (Cucumis melo. L) when they were grown with a fertigation culture in a greenhouse. Three strength (S) levels of fertilizers, including 1 S, 1/2S, and 1/4S were supplied N and K nutrients as using a trickle irrigation system. When the strength level of fertilizers was increased from 1/4S to 1 S, the level of EC (electronic conductivity) in soil was increased. Soil-water tension was ranged between -15 and -20kPa until fruit setting stage, whereas it was ranged between -45 and -50kPa in the later growth stages. In results, N fertilizer had effects on fruit yield and quality. A higher fruit yield was observed when plants were supplied with 1 S and 1/2S level of N fertilizer. The highest yield of marketable fruit, about 5,086kg/10a, was also observed when plants were supplied with 1/2S N fertilizer. A higher net index and sugar content of fruit was observed in the treatments of 1/2S and 1/4S level of N fertilizer compared to 1 S level. In contrast, there was no statistic difference in the yield and quality with three levels of K fertilizer. Results indicate that the 1/2S level for N and 1/4S level for K fertilizer are effective and optimal for the melon plants grown under the fertigation culture in terms of increasing fruit yield and quality and reducing the cost of fertilizers.

  • This experiment was conducted to the purpose of evaluating the effect of feeding on Korean Native Cattle to expand the production and utilization of whole crop rice (WCR). TMR (Total mixed ration) feed was prepared by using WCR produced in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, and the growth capacity and meat quality characteristics of 16 Korean Native Cattle raised up to 29 months of age were investigated. The produced WCR silage for feed had a moisture content of 64.02% and a crude protein content of 7.54%, and was blended with about 45% during the growing season, and lowered to 35, 15 and 9%, respectively, in the fattening period (early, middle and late stages). The body weight of the WCR-TMR feeding group was significantly higher than that of the control in the middle and late fattening stage, and at the end (29 months of age), the control group was 631 kg/head, but the WCR-TMR feeding group was 647 kg/head, which was higher. The average daily gain was significantly higher in the WCR-TMR feeding group in the growing and early fattening period, and there was no difference in the mid- and late fattening period. In the whole period, 0.71 vs 0.75 kg/head/day, WCR-TMR feeding group was high. In terms of meat quantity, the back fat thickness of the control group (11.7 mm) was significantly thicker than that of the WCR-TMR fed group (9.3 mm) (P<0.05). There was no difference in Rib eye area, Carcass weight and Meat yield index (P>0.05). In terms of meat quality, the Marbling score was higher in the WCR-TMR feeding group (P<0.05), and there were no significant differences in Meat color, Fat color, Texture and Maturity. Considering the above results, TMR feeding mainly on whole crop rice silage for feed improved the productivity of livestock, but there was no significant difference in meat quality. Therefore, it is judged that it is necessary to produce and use the whole crop rice for feed in countries with poor forage conditions.
