Indeterminacy maintains that the simultaneous measurement of object location and speed is theoretically impossible. This study present indeterminacy as a theoretic tool to interpret a variety of expression characteristics that seem disorderly in recent fashion illustrations; in addition, it analyzes the characteristics and meaning of indeterminacy as expressed in fashion illustrations. This study reviews concepts and related theories on indeterminacy to examine characteristics of indeterminacy expressed in the arts and fashion; subsequently, indeterminacy characteristics found in fashion illustrations are analyzed. In expressing the fashion figure, indeterminacy finds expression in a distorted figure transformations that include a hybridized combination of heterogeneous forms that dismantle and reconstruct the human body. The hybridized body of combined machines, animals and plants indicates an indeterminate body endlessly transforming itself. Indeterminate space expression finds expression in space expression by projection with the overlapping and juxtaposition of irrelevant constituent elements as well as a space expression from the insertion of unexpected images. An unclarified inconclusive open space provides space with fluidity, causes space expansion and conveys inconclusive meaning. Indeterminate expressions found in fashion illustrations reveal the ambiguity and complexity of a post-modern society with polysemous aesthetic values and the expanded visual concepts of fashion illustrations.

필자는 이 글에서 고차모호성의 딜레마를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 극단적 결정불가능성을 제안하고자 한다. 극단적 결정불가능성은 II-규칙을 만족시키는 결정불가능성인데, II-규칙이란 IPa가 성립하면, 즉 a가 P인지 결정 불가능하면 그러한 결정불가능성 역시 결정불가능하다는 것, 즉 IIPa 역시 성립한다는 것이다. 이러한 필자의 논의는 두 단계로 구성된다. 첫 번째 단계는 고차모호성의 딜레마의 구조를 분석하고, 그것을 극복하기 위한 조건을 제시하는 것이다. 두 번째 단계는 앞에서 제시한 조건을 만족하는 것으로 극단적 결정불가능성을 제시하는 것이다. 전자와 관련해서, 필자는 고차모호성의 딜레마가 발생하는 이유가 경계영역의 불분명함을 잘못 해석한 것에 기인함을 밝힐 것이다. 그런데 경계영역의 불분명함은 모호성에 대한 기본적 직관을 구성하는 것이다. 그래서 고차모호성의 딜레마를 해결하기 위한 조건은 모호성에 대한 올바른 이해가 만족시켜야 하는 조건이기도 하다. 필자는 이러한 조건을 만족하는 것으로 II-규칙을 제시할 것이며, II-규칙과 관련된 모호성에 대한 새로운 이해 방법으로 극단적 결정불가능성을 제시할 것이다.

In a fast changing postmodern society, contemporary fashion is becoming more complicated and ambiguous along with other genres of art than ever before. This phenomenon reigning as a sociocultural paradigm can be defined as 'indeterminacy' and it means 'undecidability'. The purpose of this study is to clarify and analyze the indeterminate characteristics of contemporary fashion reviewing the theoretical background and the architectural formativeness as a comparative research. The core idea of deconstructivism dismantles a causal relationship between function and form in fashion and the conventional notion about clothes. Complexity theory, which is the study of chaotic dynamical systems, suggests the creative idea and concept of infinite possibilities on a formative method. Meanwhile, catastrophe theory of discontinuous change can be used as interpretative strategies for the process of deconstruction and reconstruction. As a result of this study, the indeterminacy of fashion can be analyzed into five semantic categories: irregularity, immateriality, randomness, complexity and changeability. The intrinsic value of the indeterminacy in contemporary fashion is the interaction with a sociocultural ideology and a technological environment as well as an expansion of formative expression. To conclude, it can be said that the indeterminacy in fashion is a new interpretation of the relationship among body and space, clothes and society.

This paper considers a delamination analysis of a statically undetermined inhomogeneous beam structure of rectangular section with viscoelastic behavior under torsion. The beam is built in at its two ends. The beam has two longitudinal inhomogeneous layers with a delamination crack between them. A notch is made in the upper crack arm. The external torsion moment applied on the beam is a function of time. Under these conditions, the beam has one degree of indeterminacy. In order to derive the strain energy release rate, first, the static indeterminacy is resolved. Then the strain energy release rate is obtained by analyzing the balance of the energy with considering the viscoelastic behavior. The strain energy release rate is found also by analyzing the compliance of the beam for checkup. Solution of the strain energy release rate in a beam without a notch in the upper crack arm is derived too. In this case, the beam has two degrees of static indeterminacy (the torsion moment in the upper crack arm is treated as an additional internal redundant unknown). A parametric investigation of the strain energy release rate is carried-out.

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of deconstruction-ism expressed in the fashion of Alexander McQueen. The method and contents of this study are as follows. The three large categories for analysis are indeterminacy, decentralization, and intertextuality. The indeterminacy of meaning is divided into unstructured and unorganized factors in fashion, while decentralization can be categorized into cross-gender, subculture, and post-humanism. Lastly, inter-textuality is classified into factors of mixing mode and mixed styles. Materials for analysis were chosen from a total of 616 designs from the website, www.firstview.com, which carries McQueen's collection from 2000 S/S through 2007 F/W. My analysis qualitatively evaluates the frequency of each category and the characteristics of design. The result of this study is as followed. First, the avant-garde facets of inter-textuality are most prominent. In particular, McQueen has introduced retro fashion and ethnic factors of the third world, not to copy them but to create hybrid designs by using pastiches and mixing fashion styles. Moreover, he has enjoyed using two fabrics of different texture in order to inflict a shock and contrast, thus enriching his fashion. Second, the indeterminacy of meaning is the second most frequently shown facet of McQueen's fashion design. McQueen has employed unstructured expression techniques, which dismantle harmony and balance, the basic rule of design, and has presented unorganized images free from basic forms of design. He has made a new attempt to acknowledge clothing as an expressive artwork by allowing clothes to take a complete form when a person actually wears them. Third, the aspects of decentralization were also shown in McQueen's design. His trans-gender clothing dissolves the traditional division of men and women and adopts a mixed gender expression. Furthermore, he has even tried to express a fourth gender by connecting the human with machine or animal or by connecting the material with the non-material.

Structural identification via modal analysis in structural mechanics is gaining popularity in recent years, despite conceptual difficulties connected with its use. This paper is devoted to illustrate both the capabilities and the indeterminacy characterizing structural identification problems even in quite simple instances, as well as the cautions that should be accordingly adopted. In particular, we discuss an application of an identification technique of variational type, based on the measurement of eigenfrequencies and mode shapes, to a steel frame with friction joints under various assembling conditions. Experience has suggested, so as to restrict the indeterminacy frequently affecting identification issues, having resort to all the a priori acknowledged information on the system, to the symmetry and presence of structural elements with equal stiffness, to mention one example, and mindfully selecting the parameters to be identified. In addition, considering that the identification techniques have a local character and correspond to the updating of a preliminary model of the structure, it is important that the analytical model on the first attempt should be adequately accurate. Secondly, it has proved determinant to cross the results of the dynamic identification with tests of other typology, for instance, static tests, so as to fully understand the structural behavior and avoid the indeterminacy due to the nonuniqueness of the inverse problem.

Indeterminacy, along with the traces of the unknown identity V, plays a crucial role in building a new possibility in the narrative V. While the characters search for the single identity of V, Pynchon never lets readers and critics reach any final destination or goal in analyzing the novel. Exploring the multiple possibilities and meanings of life, the characters merely keep traveling and searching, without ever reaching any final conclusion or destination. The journey without ever reaching a final destination equals going beyond the boundary and embracing the margins of various possibilities. It concerns the Others and breaks off the hierarchy of Western metaphysics, which is quite similar to what the theorists of deconstruction seek to do. The search without ever reaching a final destination not only designates the multifarious aspect of truth, but it also suggests the possibility of the multiple meanings of words that the characters create. Just as their stories are abundant, the meaning that they produce with their stories can be open-ended. The notion of indeterminacy and broadness in this text, which can be well explained by Derrida, makes it possible for one to search for something other than the fixed meanings or truth claims. The text becomes multifarious in meaning as well as in structure, thus rejecting any kind of singular signifying act.

The concept of Space-time is performed while the movement of human Is imaged on coming 20th century up. Specifically it is considered that the movement of human is caused by the relativistic otherness rather than an absolute subject in space of deconstructive tendency. The purpose of this study is that I try to analyze an expression of relative space-time concept in desconstructive tendency and I have to get a concept how this kind of expression effect the contemporary commercial space. Through this study, I can get to know that the expression of relative space-time concept expresses the dynamic construction by the indeterminacy and the visual effect by the dematerialization in the contemporary commercial interior-space. According to the result of study, the concept of space get to be more meaningful, relative space-time concept and it can be attributed to the concept of human's new creative space over human's life in general.

Since the emergence of a philosophical theory called deconstructivism, intertextuality has been promote the hybrid phenomenon amongst other jenres in arts. Various research efforts in intertextuality, however, have been more focused on the fields of literature and philosophy, rather than of architecture. This study aims to clarify the intertextuality between architectural design, music and literature as the following analysis of James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake, John Cage's music and Bernard Tschumi's early works. Joyce's Garden of Bernard Tschumi's project and some of John Cage's music works had borrowed from Finnegan's Wake, a novel James Joyce. Hence, the commonality between Bernard Tschumi and John Cage can naturally be related through Finnegan's Wake. Also, Finnegan's Wake had been contextualized by Jacques Derrida before it was used as a mediation by Bernard Tschumi. In this viewpoint, the paper will be able to identify the possibility of intertextuality between musical text and architectural one with a medium of literature. Major findings of the study are as follows: First, Finnegan's Wake played a guiding role to deconstruct the existing formalism and to construct a new concept in John Cage's music and Bernard Tschumi's architecture. Second, John Cage's music and Bernard Tschumi's works are included commonness with indeterminacy concepts. Third, the both artists share a drawing concept as found in John Cage's graphic notation of the 1950s and Bernard Tschumi's early architecture where grids, dots, and curves are used in common. As s result, intertextuality could be possible to make sure between others. Like this interdisciplinary research of relationships among different fields will be of great help in constructing creative design methods in architecture. With continuous research attempts, it is hopeful to intertextualize architectural texts with related art fields.
