  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to learn from Korean female defectors about their views of child-rearing experiences in South Korea. This study explored how 7 North Korean female defectors with young children developed child-rearing microideologies that acknowledge both North Korean cultural ideology and South Korean cultural ideology. Methods: To examine North Korean female defectors' child-rearing experiences, indepth interviews with 7 North Korean female defectors with young children were conducted. Results: Four theme clusters, 11 themes, and 47 meanings were found from a phenomenological analysis with indepth interview data. Based on the themes, three types of child-rearing microideologies were identified: (1) separation,(2) assimilation, and (3) integration. Each type of child-rearing microideology can be understood with a meaningful phrase "there is no choice", "nevertheless" and "because I came here to be better," respectively. Conclusion/Implications: This study provides knowledge on the individual-specified child-rearing strategy of North Korean female defectors with young children and suggests the necessity of diverse policy proposals based on the child-rearing microideology types.

  • Korean population is now aging at an unprecedented rate. Fertility decline together with rapid improvements in life expectancy is the dominant demographic trend. As human life and housing environment are inseparably related to each other, the importance of conditions of housing environment for active aging among seniors has been received considerable attention as vital ones to expand the independency period of seniors. The purpose of this case study is to identify relationships between environmental affordance and perceived holistic health of the active elderly living in a retirement community located in Seoul. With spending time personally in the community to observe their lives, the researcher could be in close rapport with the residents. After the period of getting familiar with each other, in-depth individual interview and focus group interview were conducted and then, qualitative analysis was completed. As a result, general evidences showed that perceived seniors' health on the whole was improved physically, socially, and mentally by moving into the community providing appropriate environment affordance with the older adults. The study presents that retirement relocation into an improper environment may be a negative challenge, however, it may positively influence on the health and well-being of those who live there if the environment properly supports seniors‘ needs physically and socially

First, the paper describes the longitudinal structure of collaborative pattern among the 10 East-Asian countries based on their frequency of co-authoring SCI journal articles in the year 2001-2003. Second, a focus interview was made to explore the way in which new digital technologies such as the Internet have changed a research practice in the field of science, technology, and innovation. This research found that Japan and China are preferred as the number one collaborator by other Asian countries. Their share of international collaboration with other Asian countries has been increasing in three years. The results of indepth interview with a scholar suggest that digital network technologies have several advantages enabling individual and institutional actors to collaborate with each other effectively in terms of knowledge management as well as information exchange.

  • The satisfaction of wearing an outfit in daily life can lead to the attitude toward the clothes and further the brand image and repeat purchases; however, satisfaction generated from the moment the outfit was purchased is only temporary. Therefore, it would be necessary to study the antecedent variables that precede daily outfit satisfaction. In the current study, to understand the antecedent variables that influence the daily outfit satisfaction of consumers, in-depth interviews were conducted on thirteen women in their 20s and 30s. The results showed that peoples' outfit satisfaction was dependent on a comparison between their prior expectation and the performance of the outfit based on expectation-performance disconfirmation. The outfit performance was evaluated by themselves or others. Simultaneously, it was found that the others' opinion on the clothes and surroundings influence daily outfit satisfaction. This research helps deepen the understanding on the individual and social influential factors of the temporary satisfaction from purchase to the satisfaction of actually using clothes. This result ultimately intensifies the understanding on the consumption and evaluation of clothes in the whole life cycle of clothing products from purchase to disposal.

It makes women can control their reproductive activities such as pregnancy, delivery, and raising children etc. It gives each woman has autonomy of her life. The review reveals high contraceptive rate and high experienced artificial abortion rate in Korea. It means Korean married couples use contraception inefficiently. From 1970's to 1980's, most of the researches in contraceptions were descriptive and survey studies. Since 1990's, the studies have researched in the feministic perspectives. In order to understand experiences of contraceptive behaviors, qualitative researches through indepth interview did. But the number of researches were limited. The relating factors to contraceptive behavior are knowledge, communication between couples, efficiency of contraceptives, self efficacy, attitudes toward contraception, national policy, mass media, public opinion, age, parity, abortion history, ever-used contraceptive method and educational level. Theses factors affect contraception directly and indirectly. Therefore. researches about contraceptives in the future must focus on development of contraceptive behavior assessment tools and further study should be comprehensive and multidementional.
