Dual Monopolies of New Durables and Their Ancillaries: Exclusive Supply Contracts

  • A manufacturer of a durable good typically purchases supplies, including parts for assembly - that are also useful for repairs - from independent "original equipment suppliers" with which it contracts. The manufacturer is a branded monopolist of its final assembled product. To put into effect also a monopoly of the replacement parts, it must stipulate in its arrangements with independent suppliers of the parts that they not supply such patented parts to any other buyer. Durable good owners would then only be able to obtain their requirements of replacement parts from the same company that supplied the durable. This would amount to a tie-in of replacement parts to the direct purchase of new durables. And that describes the apparently widespread practice of automobile manufacturers in India, as exposed in a recent case before the Competition Commission of India (Samsher Kataria v Honda Siel Cars India Limited and others). Here, I will argue that such tie-in enabled automotive manufacturers to more fully appropriate consumer surplus, which induced them to lower the price of new cars, sell more cars and also sell more repair parts. The tie-in expanded the auto parts industry and promoted new entry. The main restraint on expansion of India's automotive manufacturing is not monopoly. It is government protection in the form of tariffs on automobiles and auto parts.

반도체 기업의 R&D역량과 시장지향성이 제품혁신성과에 미치는 영향: 기술혁신지향성의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Effects of R&D Capability and Market Orientation on Product Innovation Performance : The Moderating Role of Technological Innovation Orientation)

  • 본 연구는 급변하는 반도체 산업의 특성을 고려하여 고객가치 제고와 기술혁신 경쟁우위를 위해 R&D역량과 시장지향성이 제품혁신성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는지를 연구하였다. 즉, 연구모형에서와 같이 독립변수인 R&D역량, 시장지향성이 기술혁신지향성이라는 조절변수를 통해 종속변수인 제품혁신성과에 미치는 인과관계를 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 위하여 반도체 기업의 개발업무 종사자를 대상으로 설문을 진행하였고 최종적으로 118부의 유효한 설문지를 회수하였다. 수집된 자료는 인구통계학적 특성을 통제변인으로 하는 다중회귀분석을 진행하였고 기술혁신지향성 조절효과는 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 기업의 R&D역량 중 R&D집약도와 외부네트워크 역량이 높을수록 제품혁신성과가 높아지는 것으로 나타났고 시장지향성 중 고객지향성과 경쟁자지향성에 대하여 제품혁신성과가 높게 나타났다. 또한 R&D역량만이 기술혁신지향성의 조절효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과는 반도체 기업의 제품혁신성과 창출을 위한 R&D역량과 시장지향성에 대한 이해를 높이고 기업의 제품혁신성과와 지속적인 경쟁우위를 확보하기 위해 기술혁신지향성이 중요한 조절 요소임을 실증적으로 지지하는 연구 자료가 될 것으로 기대한다.

기업의 웹 사이트 채택 시기에 영향을 미치는 요인 - 혁신확산이론 관점에서 - (Factors Influencing Adoption of Corporate Web Site Over Time : Innovation Diffusion Theory Perspective)

  • Recently, organizations intend to adopt new information technology for acquiring relative advantages in competitive business environment. Especially, many companies have paid attention to web-based electronic commerce. But research in this area has largely been performed to the operational and technical aspects of web site. Also the World Wide Web(web) has become one of the most widely used information technologies, but research indicates that there are many firm that are still considering whether to establish a web presence. This study examines factors influencing adoption of corporate web site over time. To examine why companies adopt web site, this study regards web site as an innovation and finds out these reason through Innovation Diffusion Theory. Independent variables of this research are composed of innovation characteristics, organizational characteristics and environmental characteristics. By the result of logistic regression analysis, we find that there are significant differences between early adopters and late adopters of web site for three adoption factors : top management support, organization size, environmental uncertainty. These findings confirm the theoretical frame for adoption of corporate web site. Also this study will provide good guidelines to the companies and the vendors in shaping the strategies of IT adoption and IT diffusion respectively.

스마트폰의 특성이 개인의 업무성과에 미치는 영향과 혁신 저항성의 조절효과 (The Effect of Work Performance to Smart Phone's Characteristics and Moderated Effects of Innovation Resistance)

  • This study analyzed the effects of smart phone using for business on work performance in the field. We classified functional and practical aspects of smart phone affecting employee's work performance through former studies. As independent variables, we selected portability of equipment, rapidity of information and ease of use for functional side, and selected fit to work and subjective norms for practical side. And dependent variable was work performance. We also suggested that innovation resistance would be a moderator. The results showed that the effect of work performance was influenced by portability of equipment and fit to work. However, hypotheses on moderating effects of innovation resistance were not supported. This study made a discrimination in terms of an application phase of smart phone as against former studies. The results of this study will provide practical implications for related enterprises in the field to develop ways of using smart phone as an effective strategy.

  • This study aims to develop the concept of innovation models with the marketing channel construct approach, marketing innovation, product segmentation, and customer insight; as well as improvements to the theory of resource-based combined with the method of service-dominant logic. This study approach is based on quantitative descriptive conducted with three stages of testing scenarios. The first test is the mapping of the innovation model construct through testing the validity and reliability with the moderation of customer orientation variables. The second scenario examines the relationship of influence between the independent variables on the dependent variable of 29 hypothetical analysis equation modeling. The unit of analysis was conducted on 497 SMEs involved in the food and beverage sectors, with the criteria being SMEs must have a rating of 4-5 points on the Go-Food applications software. The results shown that: 1) the construct used to develop an innovative model both directly and via moderation is positive and significant; 2) Through a complicated relationship that involves all components of the variable, it outlines a positive and significant effect except for the path of analysis (μ5). The theoretical and managerial implications state that the service-dominant logic approach and resource-based view theory have extreme reliability and interrelations.

  • As the limitation of the existing convergence is pointed out, technology-humanities convergence which highlights the enhancement of the quality of life of humans, is focused as a solution to facilitate sustainable technological innovation. Technology-humanities convergence has already occurred in various industries, of which a considerable number of successful cases can be noted. However, few efforts have been made to investigate technologyhumanities convergence as an independent academic field. Therefore, this paper aimed to identify the status of technology-humanities convergence. To do this, first, a definition of technology-humanities convergence was proposed. Second, based on Maslow's theory, the types of human needs and related key words were extracted. Third, patents related to human needs were collected from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (2000~2014). Fourth and last, the status of technology-humanities convergence was analyzed in terms of "convergence trends" and "convergence areas." This research is expected to promote more creative and human-centered performances of innovation as well as to support decision-making when the innovation strategy-as attempted by the quantitative analysis of technology-humanities convergence in the perspective of sustainable competitiveness-is established.

조직 내 빅데이터 시스템 확산에 영향을 주는 요인에 대한 연구 (Factors for the Intra-organizational Diffusion of Big Data Systems)

  • In this paper, factors affecting intra-organizational diffusion of Big Data systems from the perspective of the Big Data system vendors have been analyzed. In particular, the theory of resistance against innovation that exists in some form before the adoption or rejection of innovation has been focused on. In order to do that, the resistance has been divided into three categories : postponement, rejection and opposition. The variables affecting each type are also divided into four independent variables : perceived risk, innovation characteristics, user attributes, and organizational attributes. As a result of the survey, it was confirmed that the influences of each variable are different according to the type of resistance. As the strength of the resistance was increased, the influence of the trialability was increased as well. As the strength of the resistance was decreased, the satisfaction with the existing system became more influential on the resistance. The time risk and the satisfaction with the existing system were found to affect all types of resistance. From the vendor's point of view, strategic implications are presented in terms of marketing or system development for diffusion, depending on the degree of resistance of the adopter.

The Meaningful Relationship between Employee Reading Habits and Innovation Competency

  • Purpose: Strategic management research and findings are usually not focused on dealing with concrete instruments for measuring individual competencies. The presence of traditional human resources management instruments, which include the aspects of job analysis, selection training, and even development, has been used frequently for many years in organizations. This study aims to investigate the relationship between employee reading habits and their innovativeness. Research design, data and methodology: The research methodology applied in this case is qualitative research methods. It is a method that involves the collection of data from non-numerical formats. The technique helped in understanding the relationship that exists between the reading habits of the employees and the competencies of innovation. Results: The present researchers figured out the meaningful connection between the independent variable (Reading Habit and dependent variable (Innovative Competency), explaining 'The Reason Why Employees Should Read More Books' and 'How Organizations Promote the Reading Habits of Employees'. Conclusions: It is clear that with reading habits among employees, innovation is easily achieved since these employees know their goals, how to achieve these objectives and overcome any challenge that might hinder innovation. Organizational management should work towards fostering positive reading cultures among employees in organizations.

신규 미디어 서비스/기기 레퍼토리 구조 결정 요인 (Determinants of Media Repertoires based on New Services and Technologies)

  • 본 연구는 신규 미디어 서비스 및 기기 레퍼토리 결정 요인 및 이에 따른 레퍼토리 이용 집단 간 판별 요인들을 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 본 연구의 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신규 미디어 서비스 및 기기 이용 다양성 결정 요인을 살펴보기 위해 혁신성, 개인연결망, 사회적 영향력, 인구사회 변인, 미디어 이용 정도 등을 선행 변인으로 투입한 회귀모델을 적용한 결과 개인 연결망이나 사회적 영향력 변인, 인구사회학적 요인 및 미디어 이용 정도 변인들 모두 부분적으로 통계적으로 유의미한 설명 변인으로 나타났다. 둘째, 신규 미디어 서비스 및 기기 채택 또는 비채택 이용자를 판별하는 요인들을 살펴본 결과 신규 미디어 서비스는 지상파TV 시청 정도와 연령, 가처분 소득 등이 유의미했으며 신규 미디어 기기는 소득 변인을 포함해 신문, 인터넷, 라디오 이용 정도가 유의미한 판별 요인으로 나타났다. 셋째, 신규 미디어 서비스 및 기기를 다수 채택/비채택하는 이용자 판별 요인들을 살펴본 결과 신규 미디어 서비스는 개인연결망이나 사회적 동질감, 그리고 개인별 가처분 소득 등이 유의미한 판별 요인으로 나타났다. 반면 미디어 기기 다수 채택/비채택 판별 요인은 개인 연결망 및 사회적 동질감, 성별이나 연령, 개인별 가처분 소득 등으로 나타났다.

  • 본 연구는 간호조직의 조직문화 유형에 따른 기본심리욕구, 긍정심리자본, 심리적 소진의 정도와 관계를 파악하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구대상자는 2020년 5월부터 2020년 6월까지 M시에 소재한 5개 중소병원 간호사 151명을 대상으로 하였으며 자료수집은 자기보고 설문지법을 사용하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS/WIN 23.0 Program을 이용하여 기술적 통계, one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients로 분석하였다. 연구결과 관계지향문화와 혁신지향문화 유형은 기본심리욕구, 긍정심리자본과 정적 상관관계가, 심리적 소진과는 부적 상관관계가 있었다. 본 연구는 관계지향문화와 혁신지향 문화유형이 간호사의 긍정심리에 정적 관계가 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 그러므로 관계지향문화와 혁신지향문화를 활성화할 수 있는 간호조직 내 시스템 구축과 관련 프로그램 개발이 필요하다.
