  • In this study, we proposed a new concept termed the Secondary Peak Constant (SPC) and discerned the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events based on unit time and SPC about 24 observation stations in Seoul. Utilizing rainfall observations from 2000 to 2022, independent rainstorm events discreted from rainfall data per unit time. The temporal characteristics of these events were derived according to unit time, and temporal characteristics of the peak rainfall were identified through the SPC. Finally, the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events were examined distinctively when analyzed by unit time and SPC. Independent rainstorm events with smaller unit time showed significantly larger total rainfall, rainfall duration, and rainfall intensity. The temporal characteristics of the largest peak rainfall (1st Peak) within independent rainstorm events followed a sequence of Q4>Q2>Q3>Q1. Additionally, the 2nd Peak rainfall predominantly occurred the location where the 1st Peak appeared. The proportion of independent rainstorm events with multiple peak rainfalls exceeded 50.0% when the SPC was 0.7 or lower. The average number of peak rainfalls within independent rainstorm events ranged from 1.5 to 3.4. This study identified the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events based on unit time. Then, the peak rainfall of temporal characteristics was quantified by SPC on this study. Hence, it is evident that the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events for specific area can be anlayzed and quantified based on unit time and SPC.

  • The extent and depth of the event plan determines the scope of pedagogical experience in situations and consequently the quality of immersive learning based on our simulated world. In contrast to planning in conventional narrative-based systems mainly pursuing dramatic interests, planning in virtual world-based pedagogical systems strive to provide realistic experiences in immersed situations. Instead of story plot comprising predetermined situations, our inter-event planning method aims at simulating diverse situations that each involve multiple events coupled via their associated agents' conditions and meaningful associations between events occurring in a background world. The specific techniques to realize our planning method include, two-phase planning based on inter-event search and intra-event decomposition (down to the animated action level); autonomous and independent agents to behave proactively with their own belief and planning capability; full-blown background world to be used as the comprehensive stage for all events to occur in; coupling events via realistic association types including deontic associations as well as conventional causality; separation of agents from event roles; temporal scheduling; and parallel and concurrent event progression mechanism. Combining all these techniques, diverse exogenous events can be derived and seamlessly (i.e., semantically meaningfully) integrated with the original event to form a wide scope of situations providing chances of abundant pedagogical experiences. For effective implementation of plan execution, we devise an execution scheme based on multiple priority queues, particularly to realize concurrent progression of many simultaneous events to simulate its corresponding reality. Specific execution mechanisms include modeling an action in terms of its component motions, adjustability of priority for agent across different events, and concurrent and parallel execution method for multiple actions and its expansion for multiple events.

  • When we construct an interval estimate of two independent proportions with rare events, the standard approach based on the normal approximation behaves badly in many cases. The problem becomes more severe when no success observations are observed on both groups. In this paper, we compare two alternative methods of constructing a confidence interval of the difference of two independent proportions by use of simulation. One is based on the profile likelihood and the other is the Bayesian probability interval. It is shown in this paper that the Bayesian interval estimator is easy to be implemented and performs almost identical to the best frequentist's method -the profile likelihood approach.

  • The purpose of this paper intuitively shows the exact and logical explanation of Independent Event and Dependent Event. In actual classrooms, teachers have difficulty in describing the connection between those events and real life. Some teachers have wrong perceptions on the definition of those events. For example, they may not realize exactly what P(B A)=P(B) means and may not explain intuitively the original meaning of why it is independent event. Also they believe that Independent Event and Dependent Event do not always match with real life. This paper, therefore, tries to prove intuitively the exact meanings of those events in the Verbal Form with some examples and it proves that those events exactly match with real life. It is expected that this paper will greatly contribute to the improvement of probability education.

  • Stochastic independence of events is not only important concept but useful role in statistics and probability. In this paper, we investigate and analyze the definition of stochastic independence used in the middle and high school mathematics education course. and We investigated that students know concept of independent events. As a result, students was a lack of understanding about the concepts associated with independence of events. and the connection between concepts associated with independent of events were partially. Also, Connections between lower-level concepts and high-level concepts can be done well so teaching-learning was needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of implementing special events within school foodservice operations. A total of 359 questionnaires were distributed to dietitians employed at school foodservice operations in Busan from July 1 to 31, 2006 (response rate: 93%). The results indicated that approximately half of the respondents (47.7%) did not implement special events. The types of special events that foodservice operations had most frequently implemented were 'traditional festival day events' (19.0%), 'subdivisions of the season events' (18.3), 'seasonal events' (17.1%), 'school events' (13.0%), 'single day events' (10.2%). According to the dietitians' characteristics, older dietitians implemented 'healthy food events' more frequently than younger dietitians. 'Traditional festival day events' (p<0.05) and 'subdivisions of the season events' (p<0.01) were more frequently implemented in independently managed foodservices than in contract operations. On the other hand, 'international food events', 'gift events', and 'healthy food events' were more frequently implemented in contract foodservices than in independent operations (p<0.001). Dietitians from elementary and middle schools implemented 'winter solstice', 'midsummer', 'children's day', and 'school foodservice day' events more frequently, whereas dietitians from high schools implemented 'midsummer', 'Valentine's day', and 'teacher's day' events more frequently. Most dietitians (94%) had never received education or training for special event marketing previously. Therefore, these results suggest there may be a need to develop educational programs on special event marketing for dietitians.

  • This study suggested the parameter estimation method for given rainfall events to be properly expressed by the beta distribution. For this purpose, this study compared the characteristics of probability density function with the parameter proposed considering the cases with and without addition to the rainfall peak, and the cases of using the real hyetograph and the rearranged hyetograph about the rainfall peak. As an example, this study analyzed the independent rainfall events at Seoul in 2010 and the annual maximum independent rainfall events from 1961 to 2010. The results derived are as follows. First, this study confirmed the necessity of additional consideration on rainfall peak to mimic the real hyetograph of rainfall events by the beta distribution. Second, this study confirmed the case of using rearranged hyetograph about the rainfall peak derived a better beta distribution to well mimic the characteristics of real rainfall than the case using the real hyetograph.

  • In this study, new stochastic point rainfall models which can consider the correlation structure between rainfall intensity and duration are developed. In order to consider the negative and positive correlation simultaneously, the Gumbels type-II bivariate distribution is applied, and for the cluster structure of rainfall events, the Neyman-Scott cluster point process is selected. In the theoretical point of view, it is shown that the models considering the dependent structure between rainfall intensity and duration have slightly heavier tail autocorrelation functions than the corresponding independent mode]s. Results from generating long time rainfall events show that the dependent models better reproduce historical rainfall time series than the corresponding independent models in the sense of autocorrelation structures, zero rainfall probabilities and extreme rainfall events.

  • Seoul Fashion Week aims to be the world’s fifth Fashion Week from the year after 2000. This has involved significant labour and investment, not all of which has been successful. This study analyses the strengths and weaknesses of SFW based on the London Fashion Week as a successful model. By identifying its obvious and less obvious characteristics, this analysis aims to diagnose SFW’s current status in order to upgrade the event at an international level. Key factors are organisational body, designers, visitors, sponsors, schedule, venue, main events and supportive events. The following points have emerged from the research: the success of Seoul Fashion Week was based on the combination of separate collections, an appropriate fashion show venue, and the active role of new designers. The problems were: lack of an independent organisation, non-professional staff, lack of diverse visitors, exclusive governmental funding, late timing, excessive distance from the main European and American fashion markets, lack of sustainability of the main events, a limited variety of supportive events, the absence of online promotion and, last but not least, no distinctive features. The study concludes that Seoul Fashion Week has great potential with its fast growth and young designers. This should be complemented with an independent organisation and effective administration and strategy.

  • The event sequence of the same type from a set of events having time property can be summarized in one event. But if the event sequence having an interval, It is reasonable to be summarized more than one in independent sub event sequence of each other. In this paper, we suggest a method of temporal data mining that summarizes the interval events based on Allen's interval algebra and finds out interval event association rule from interval events. It provides better knowledge than others by using concept of an independent sub sequence and finding interval event association rules.
