Characteristics Evaluation on Welding Metal Zones Welded with Inconel 625 Filler Metal to Cast Steel for Piston Crown Material

  • Since the oil price has been significantly jumped for several years, a heavy oil of low quality has been mainly used in the diesel engine of the merchant ship. Thus, a combustion chamber of the engine has been often exposed to severely corrosive environment more and more because temperature of the exhaust gas of the combustion chamber has been getting higher and higher with increasing of using the heavy oil of low quality. As a result, wear and corrosion of the engine parts such as exhaust valve, piston crown and cylinder head surrounded with combustion chamber are more serious compared to the other parts of the engine. Therefore, an optimum repair welding for these engine parts is very important to prolong their lifetime in a economical point of view. In this study, Inconel 625 filler metal were welded with GTAW method in the cast steel which would be generally used with piston crown material. And the corrosion properties of weld metal, heat affected and base metal zones were investigated using electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and impedance etc. in 35% $H_2SO_4$ solution. The weld metal and base metal zones exhibited the highest and lowest values of hardness respectively. Furthermore, the corrosion current density of the weld metal zone revealed the lowest value, having the highest value of hardness. The corrosive products with red color and local corrosion like as a pitting corrosion were considerably observed at the base metal zone, while these morphologies were not wholly observed in the weld metal zone. In particular, the polarization characteristics such as impedance, polarization curve and cyclic voltammogran associated with corrosion resistance property were well in good agreement with each other. Consequently, it is suggested that the mechanical and corrosion characteristics of the piston crown can be predominantly improved by repair welding method using the Inconel 625 electrode.

  • The combustion chamber of a diesel engine is often exposed to a more serious wear and corrosion environment than other parts of the engine because its temperature increases as a result of using heavy oil of low quality. Therefore, repair and built-up welding methods must be performed on worn or corroded parts of the piston crown, exhaust valve, etc. from an economical point of view. In this study, Inconel 718 filler metal was used in repair welding on the groove of a forged steel specimen for a piston crown, along with built-up welding on the surface of another forged steel specimen. Then, the corrosion characteristics of the weld metal zone for the repair welding and the deposited metal zone for the built-up welding were investigated using electrochemical methods in a 35% H2SO4 solution. The deposited metal zone indicated better corrosion resistance than the weld metal zone, showing a nobler corrosion potential, higher impedance, and smaller corrosion current density. It is considered that metal elements with good corrosion resistance were generally included in the filler metal, and these elements were also greatly involved in the deposited meta by built-up welding, whereas the weld metal consisted of metal elements mixed with both the filler metal and base metal elements because of the molten pool produced by the repair welding. Finally, it is considered that the hardness of the weld metal was increased by the repair welding, whereas the built-up welding improved the corrosion resistance of the deposited metal.

  • 본 논문은 레이저 샥 피닝(LSP) 유한요소 시뮬레이션 관련 변수들이 인코넬 alloy 600 합금의 잔류 응력에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 특히, 레이저 피닝 공정 관련 변수인 최대 압력파, 압력파 지속시간, 레이저 스팟 크기 및 다중 레이저 샷의 영향을 확인하였다. 최대 압력파 및 압력파 지속시간은 alloy 600 재료물성에 따라 특정 범위에서 최대 압축잔류응력을 생성시켜 준다. 이 때문에 LSP 공정에서 최대 압력파 및 압력파 지속시간은 중요한 선택 변수가 된다. 일정한 크기 이상의 레이저 스팟은 잔류응력에 특별한 영향을 미치지 않음을 확인하였고, 다중 레이저 샷은 압축잔류응력 크기와 소성변형 발생깊이를 동시에 증가시키지만, 증가량은 레이저 샷 횟수가 증가할수록 감소하였다.

  • The study was performed to search on alternative material for turbopump parts made of Russian material by analyzing and comparing chemical and mechanical material properties. Iron base material was generally used for turbopump. This material can be categorized into stainless steel and heat resisting steel by quantity of additional elements. Each steel was also classified into austenite steel, ferrite steel, and martensite steel. Alternative materials for turbopump inducer, impeller and casing are chosen by JIS SUS 631 and 321 as a result of this study. Because the material of Russian turbopump turbine may be developed by Russia itself, alternative material can be hardly found. However, Inconel 718 for turbine material is thought to be proper in the aspect of hardness considering general use of this material for turbopump turbine in Japan and France.

직선형 프로세스 파이프 내면 오버레이 GTAW 용접시스템 개발 (A Development of Overlay GTAW Welding System for Pipe Inside Straight Process)

  • In this research, GTA overlay welding system is developed for inside of straight pipes in various diameter. It can be applied to oil, ship building and plant industry, especially pipes connected to pressure vessels, for the purpose of cost reduction by cladding inside of pipes with corrosion and heat resistant alloys such as stainless steel or Inconel. Developed system consists of GTA power source, torch, wire feeding system, automatic arc length adjusting device, CCD camera and cooling unit. Two types of pipe inside overlay welding system are developed. One is for maximum 3m pipe length with 3 inch ~ 12 inch pipe outer diameter. Another type can be applied to maximum 12m pipe length with 7 ~ 24 inch OD. Developed system successfully produced inside cladded pipe and the results are shown through cross sectional images of the pipes.

  • In this paper, the transient thermal and residual stress analysis of the welding of 9% Ni steel plates using the FEA software ABAQUS are presented. The 9% Ni steel plates are welded manually with welding consumables of 70% Ni based Inconel type super-alloys (YAWATA WELD B (M)), producing a multi-pass/multi-layer butt weld. For these materials, temperature dependant mechanical and thermal material properties are used in the analysis. The back gouging is considered in welding process simulation. The FE thermal results are validated by comparing the real fusion profile and heat affected zone (HAZ). In addition, the continuous indentation test was conducted to measure the strength of base metal, HAZ and weld metal.

  • 본 해설에서는 Inconel계와 Hastelloy계로 구분되는 9%Ni강용 피복아크용접봉을 중심으로 LNG저장탱크 용접시공시 발생 가능한 문제점들을 검토하고, Ni합금 피복봉의 심선과 피복제와 관련한 일반적인 제조특성을 살펴보았다. 또한 현재 국내 현장에서 용접시공에 사용되는 용접재료의 화학적, 기계적 특성과 함께 용접작업성을 평가한 결과 이들 피복아크용접봉들은 규격이 정한 요구조건들을 만족하면서 비교적 양호한 용접작업성을 확보하고 있는 것으롤 판단되었다. 이상의 검토결과는 향후 9%Ni강용 Ni합금 피복아크용접봉의 국산화 개발에 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

고온 및 Zn Fume에 의한 소재들의 부식성 분석 (Corrosion Analysis of Materials by High Temperature and Zn Fume)

  • 대부분의 용융 아연 도금 설비에 사용되고 있는 소재는 SM45C(기계구조용 탄소강, KS규격)으로, 주로 저렴한 가격적인 측면에 의해 사용되고 있다. 용융 아연 도금의 특성상 해당 용탕에서 발생되어 올라오는 Zn Fume과 고온의 열에 의한 도금 설비의 산화가 발생되고 있으며 현재 용융 아연 도금 설비의 교체 주기의 시기는 6개월으로 많은 시간과 설비 비용이 낭비 되어오고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 다양한 소재들(Inconel625, STS304, SM45C)을 이용하여 고온과 Zn Fume 환경에서 강제로 산화 시켜 각각의 부식성을 확인하고 비교 분석하였으며, 각 소재들의 용융 아연 도금 현장 설비에 적용 가능성을 파악하고자 진행하였다. 강제 산화 실험은 650도의 대기로 내에 Zn 용탕을 두고, Ar 가스를 용탕 내에서 직접 버블링하여 Zn fume를 발생시켜 고온, Zn fume에 의한 부식을 행하는 실험을 하였다. 30일 후 Sample들을 꺼내어 표면의 산화층을 EDS, SEM으로 확인하고, 동전위분극 시험을 이용하여 부식성을 비교 분석하였다.

  • 원전 안전주입계통 역지밸브의 유지보수 작업과 관련하여 작업자 방사성 피폭저감과 고가 부품의 재사용을 위해 방사능으로 오염된 이들 밸브를 화학제염법으로 제염을 수행하였다. 화학제염 후 역지밸브 내부 틈새에 잔류한 미세 고형입자를 제거하기 위해 초음파세척을 병행하였다. 역지밸브 disk arm holder를 사용한 사전 시험결과를 토대로 제염공정과 제염시약량을 결정하였으며 제염에 의한 부식산화물 용해거동, 방사능 제거거동과 재료부식거동을 조사하였다. 화학제염에 이은 초음파 적용결과, 초기 방사능의 93-95%가 제거되었으며 역지밸브 구성재질인 Type 304 stainless steel, Inconel-600 및 Stellite-6 에 대한 일반부식량은 각각 $ 2.1$\times10^{-2}$ , $6.0\times10^{-2}$ 및 1.7 mil 로써 일반부식 허용한계치의 3.3%, 24.0 % 및 2.7% 수준을 나타내어 제염효과와 재질건전성 면에서 효과적이었다.
