  • Most of the operating pressurized water reactors (PWRs)has chosen Inconel 600 as steam generator tubing. The long-term operation of steam generators showed that the use of this material induced localized corrosion damages. The current trend is using Inconel 690 as a tube material for the replacement steam generators. Based on the current trend, we have chosen Inconel 690 for the advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) steam generator tube material. In this paper, we examined the technical consideration in this modification: the effect of chemical composition, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and wear characteristics

  • INCONEL 718, nickel based superalloy, has good formability, high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at high temperature. Owing to theses attractive properties, it finds use in applications such as combustion system, turbine engines and nuclear reactors. In such applications, components are typically required to be tolerant of high stress impact loading. This may cause material degradation and lead to catastrophic failure during service operation. In order to design optimal structural parts made of INCONEL 718, accurate understanding of material's mechanical properties, dynamic behavior and fracture characteristic as a function of strain rates are required. This paper concerned with the dynamic material properties of the INCONEL 718 for the various strain rates. The dynamic response of the INCONEL 718 at intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test machine test and at the high strain rate is from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test. Based on the experimental results, the effects of strain rate on dynamic flow stress, work hardening characteristics, strain rate sensitivity and elongation to the failure are evaluated. Experimental results from both quasi-static and high strain rate up to the 5000/sec are interpolated in order to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulate and design the structural parts made of INCONEL 718.

  • Recently, super heat-resistant alloy Inconel 600 come into spotlight as the material of airplane parts but this material causes lots of problems that is, reduction of machinability and attritious wear and breakage of cutting tool during turning processing due to high temperature strength and cohesion between tool material and Inconel 600. Therefore, in this study, it was purposed to determine tool material kind and to select of proper cutting range when turning process was carried out for Inconel 600. In order to these Purpose, coated carbide tool and ceramic tool was used in this experiment and the machinability of Inconel 600 was investigated from perspective of the cutting force, chipping and wear of tool and deposition phenomenon of chip.

  • Inconel-600 alloy has been used as steam generator tube material for current pressurized water reactors (PWRs). The long-term operation of steam generators showed that the use of this material induced localized corrosion damages and increased tube wear of steam generator. To protect these problems, steam generator tube material is being changed to Inconel-690 alloy. Based on the current trend, we have chosen Inconel 690 as the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) steam generator(SG) tube material and performed the design optimization of preventive measure against tube fretting wear for the APR1400 steam generator. In this paper, we examined the technical consideration in this modification : the selection of material, wear characteristics, effect of the Egg-crate Flow Distribution Plate installation, and effect analysis of vertical strip installation.

  • 전자기적인 방법을 이용한 비파괴검사는 금속의 표면 및 표면 근방의 균열을 탐상하는데 매우 유용하다. 그러나, 강자성체, 상자성체 또는 강자성체와 상자성체 조직이 혼재되는 경우가 발생하여 기존의 비파괴검사법에 의하면 탐상신호의 해석에 어려움이 많다. 또한, 경우에 따라서는 국부적인 자성체의 존재를 유사결함으로 오해 또는 큰 결함을 국부적인 자성체의 존재로 오해할 수 있다. 한편, 원자력 발전소의 구조물 소재로 중요하게 사용되고 있는 Inconel은 결함 발생시 Nickel로 피막 처리한 후 연장 사용하게 된다. 이때, 상자성체인 Inconel과 강자성체인 Nickel의 혼재에 의하여 결함을 탐상하기 곤란하다. 본 연구에서는 Inconel 부재, Nickel 코팅부위 및 경계면에 존재하는 결함을 탐상하기 위한 방법으로써, 복합 유도전류-누설자속법과 고밀도 홀센서 배열을 이용한 라인스캔형 자기카메라를 제안하고, 탐상 가능 결함의 깊이 및 정량 평가 가능성에 대하여 보고한다.

고온 리튬용융염에서 Ni 200 및 Ni-base 합금의 부식거동 (Corrosion Behavior of Ni 200 and Ni-base Alloys in Hot Lithium Molten salt)

  • In the development of the advanced spent fuel management process based on the molten salt technology, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. Corrosion behavior of Ni 200 and Ni-base alloys in molten salt of LiCl-$Li_2$O under oxidation atmosphere was investigated in the temperature range of $650~800^{\circ}C$ for 24~312 hrs. The order of corrosion rate was Ni 200 > Inconel 690 > Inconel 601 > Inconel 600. Inconel 600 alloy showed the highest corrosion resistance among the examined alloys, but Ni 200 exhibited the highest corrosion rate. Corrosion products of Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 were $Cr_2$$O_3$ and $NiFe_2$$O_4$. In case of Inconel 690, a single layer of $CrO_2$$O_3$ was formed in the early stage of corrosion and an outer layer of $NiFe_2$O$_4$ and inner layer of $Cr_2$$O_3$ were formed with increase of corrosion time. Inconel 600 showed local corrosion behavior and Inconel 601, 690 showed uniform corrosion behavior.

Inconel 600 및 690 튜브 재질의 일반 부식에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Research on Uniform Corrosion of Inconel 600 and 690 Tubing Material)

  • 본 논문은 국내 PWR 발전소에서 S/G tube 재질로 사용되고 있는 Inconel 600 및 690에 대한 부식 실험을 수행함으로써 작업자들의 주요 피폭원인 $^{58}Co,\;^{60}Co,\;^{51}Cr,\;^{54}Mn,\;^{59}Fe$의 생성량을 예측하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 Inconel 600 및 690 재질로 총 12개의 시편을 제작하여 실제 발전소의 운전조건과 유사하거나 가혹한 조건에서 전면 부식실험을 pH별로 20일씩 총 60일간 수행하였고, 실험 결과를 정량적으로 분석하기 위해 GDS(Glow Discharge Spectrometer) 장비를 사용하였다. GDS 장비를 이용하여 정량적으로 분석한 결과 pH 7 및 9에서는 Inconel 600이 Inconel 690에 비해 부식이 잘 되는 것으로 나타난 반면, pH 4에서는 Inconel 690이 부식이 더 잘 되는 것으로 평가되었다. 이러한 경향을 보이는 것은 과도상태의 영향이 과도하게 반영된 것에 기인한 것으로 비교적 정확한 결론을 도출하기 위해서는 장시간의 부식 실험을 수행함으로써 과도상태에 의한 영향을 최소화해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

극저온 환경에 적용되는 INCONEL 718합금의 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding 기계적 특성 평가 (Mechanical Properties Evaluation of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding for INCONEL 718 alloy apply to Cryogenic Condition)

  • Inconel 718 alloy has excellent mechanical properties at room temperature, high temperature and cryogenic conditions. UTS of base metal is about 900MPa at room temperature; this is increased up to 1300MPa after heat treatment & aging-hardening. Mechanical properties of Inconel 718 Alloy were similar to those shown in the the results for tensile test; mechanical properties of Inconel 718 alloy's GTAW were similar to those of base metal's properties at room temperature. Mechanical properties at cryogenic conditions were better than those at room temperature. Heat-treated Inconel 718, non- filler metal GTAW on Inconel 718 and GTAW used filler metal on Inconel 718's UTS was 1400MPa at cryogenic condition. As a result, the excellent mechanical properties of Inconel 718 alloy under cryogenic conditions was proved through tensile tests under cryogenic conditions. In addition, weldability of Inconel 718 alloy under cryogenic conditions was superior to that of its base-metal. In this case, UTS of hybrid joint (IS-G) at -100$^{\circ}C$ was 900MPa. Consequently, UTS of Inconel 718 alloy is estimated to increase from -100$^{\circ}C$ to a specific temperature below -100$^{\circ}C$. Therefore, Inconel 718 alloy is considered a pertinent material for the production of Lox Pipe under cryogenic conditions.

겹치기 마찰교반접합된 Inconel 600/SS 400 합금의 미세조직과 기계적 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Lap Jointed Inconel 600/SS 400)

  • The microstructures and mechanical properties of friction stir welded lap joints of Inconel 600 and SS 400 were evaluated; friction stir welding was carried out at a tool rotation speed of 200 rpm and welding speed of 100 mm/min. Electron back-scattering diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were introduced to analyze the grain boundary characteristics and the precipitates, respectively. Application of friction stir welding was notably effective at reducing the grain size of the stir zone. As a result, the reduced average grain size of Inconel 600 ranged from $20{\mu}m$ in the base material to $8.5{\mu}m$ in the stir zone. The joint interface between Inconel 600 and SS 400 showed a sound weld without voids and cracks, and MC carbides with a size of around 50 nm were partially formed at the Inconel 600 area of lap joint interface. However, the intermetallic compounds that lead to mechanical property degradation of the welds were not formed at the joint interface. Also, a hook, along the Inconel 600 alloy from SS 400, was formed at the advancing side, which directly brought about an increase in the peel strength. In this study, we systematically discussed the evolution of microstructures and mechanical properties of the friction stir lap joint between Inconel 600 and SS 400.
