Measurement of Thermal Coefficient at High Temperature by CW-Laser Speckle Photography and Image Processing (고온하의 CW 레이져 스페클 사진법과 화상처리에 의한 열팽창계수 측정에 관한 연구)

  • In resent year Laser Speckle and its development have enabled surface deformation of engineering components and materials to be interferometrically examined. Laser Speckle- Pettern Interferometry Method is a very useful method for measuring In-plane components of displacement. In measuring thermal expansion coefficient, the various problems generated were established, and the measuring limitation examined. Metarial INCONEL 601 was used in experiments. Specimen was heated to the high temperature(100$0^{\circ}C$) by diong current to the direct two specimen. Then, those problems appear to the influence of back-ground radiation by the heated specimen, the influence by air turbulence, the oxidation of specimen. The color monitor and interference filter prevented the back-ground radiation by rad heat. The oxidation occuring in specimen itself was not generated by the being acid-proof excellence of material INCONEL 601. Yet, in this experiments, the serious problems are the oxidation of specimen and influence by air turbulence. By more reserching these problems forward, it is helpful that the thermal expansion coefficient of many materials is directly measured under high temperature.

Design of Nickel Alloys Using the Theoretical Values Calculated from the Electronic State Energies (에너지 전자상태 계산으로 도출된 이론값을 이용한 니켈 합금 설계)

  • Super alloys, which can be divided into three categories, i.e. Ni-base, Co-base, and Fe-base alloys, are widely used for high temperature applications. Since superalloys contain many alloying elements and precipitates, their chemistry and processing parameters need to be carefully designed. In this study, we designed a new Ni alloy to prevent corrosion due to water vapor and gases at high temperatures. The new alloy was designed using the theoretical value of the resulting energy electronic state calculation($DV-X{\alpha}$ method). The components that were finally used were Cr, Mo, and Ti, with Ni as a base. For these alloys, elements were selected in order to compare their values with that of the average theoretical basis for an Inconel 625 alloy. Finally, two kinds of Ni alloy were designed: Ni-28Cr-4Mo-2Ti and Ni-20Cr-10Mo-1Ti.

THEORETICAL ANALYSIS FOR STUDYING THE FRETTING WEAR PROBLEM OF STEAM GENERATOR TUBES IN A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

  • Fretting, which is a special type of wear, is defined as small amplitude relative motion along the contacting interface between two materials. The structural integrity of steam generators in nuclear power plants is very much dependent upon the fretting wear characteristics of Inconel 690 U-tubes. In this study, a finite element model that can simulate fretting wear on the secondary side of the steam generator was developed and used for a quantitative investigation of the fretting wear phenomenon. Finite element modeling of elastic contact wear problems was performed to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the finite element method to fretting wear problems. The elastic beam problem, with existing solutions, is treated as a numerical example. By introducing a control parameter s, which scaled up the wear constant and scaled down the cycle numbers, the algorithm was shown to greatly reduce the time required for the analysis. The work rate model was adopted in the wear model. In the three-dimensional finite element analysis, a quarterly symmetric model was used to simulate cross tubes contacting at right angles. The wear constant of Inconel 690 in the work rate model was taken as $K=26.7{\times}10^{-15}\;Pa^{-1}$ from experimental data obtained using a fretting wear test rig with a piezoelectric actuator. The analyses revealed donut-shaped wear along the contacting boundary, which is a typical feature of fretting wear.

  • Scramjet combustor materials are exposed at ultra high temperature over 2000K and severe erosion environment. Inconel alloys are usually applied for combustor material however its mechanical properties are decreased beyond temperature of 1000K so that is impossible for long term operation and reuse. In this study, fiber reinforced ceramic material was used as scramjet combustor material and its feasibility studied. To increase combustion efficiency, regenerative combustor system developed and channel fabrication in composite material also studied.

  • In order to investigate the in-reactor performance of the 14$\times$14 PWR fuel burner: for 3 cycles in power reactor, non-destructive examination was carried out in KAERI Hot Facility. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The surface of middle and bottom parts of the fuel rod was dark and the upper part was gray. 2) Severe defect such as through-hole was not found. 3) The diameter of rod was shrinked by about 0.65%, while the length was increased by about 0.55% Compared with the design values. 4) The burnup was decreased by about 2% at the inconel grid region compared to other parts.

  • 가압 경수로형 원전에 사용되는 Alloy 600 증기발생기 전열관재료의 입계응력부식균열 거동에 미치는 냉간변형의 영향을 1차 냉각수 모사조건에서 정속인장시험방법으로 조사하였다. 인장 냉간변형은 응력부식균열을 크게 가속화 시키지는 않았으며 변형량이 25%이상인 경우에는 응력부식균열이 발생하지 않았다. 이 현상은 냉간 변형량 및 형태에 따른 미소변형 및 응력의 불균질성에 영향을 받는 것으로 사려되며 응력의 크기는 직접적인 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 보인다. 국부적인 큰 응력구배가 존재하는 경우 균열의생성 및 성장이 현저히 가속화되었는데 이는 원전 1차측 응력부식균열 기구가 응력구배에 의존하는 과정과 연관되어 있다는 증거이다. Hump 시편을 이용한 정속인장시험방법은 짧은 실험기간내에 원전 1차측 응력부식균열 특성을 평가할 수 있는 방법이었다.

  • Turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine is one of promising technologies in the automotive industry. However, reduction in turbo-lag under transient operation is one of important challenging points to improve drivability. Engine transient performance was investigated in a 4-cylinder 2.0 L turbo-gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engine using Inconel and TiAl (Titanium Aluminide alloy) turbine wheel turbochargers. The TiAl turbocharger performed superior transient boost pressure and torque rises under various engine transient operation conditions. These were mainly due to lower turbine rotational inertia of TiAl turbocharger. The Maximum boost pressure and torque build up were founded in 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm, instant load change from 20% to 100% of pedal position.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the properties of the functional gradient thermal barrier coatings by plasma spray process. The evaluations of mechanical and thermal properties such as fatigue, oxidation and wear-resistance at high temperatures have been conducted. Furthermore, residual stress and bond strength have been evaluated. The range of thickness of coated layers was 550~600$\mu\textrm{m}$. The range of hardness of layers was 800~900 Hv and the porosity range of coatings was about 7 to 14%. The top coating layer of $ZrO_2$ in thermal barrier was composed of tetragonal structure after spraying. The coated layers of $ZrO_2$ on the Inconel substrate is the best resistance for thermal fatigue. Those coatings had the least compressive stress in comparison with other coatings. In high temperature oxidation test, the coatings on Inconel substrate was better than the coatings on SUS substrate. The bond strength of the concave type was greater than that of linear types and convex types coatings.

Determination of Chemical Compositions and Oxidation States for Corrosion Products in LiCl Molten Salts

  • The mechanism of corrosion behavior has to be understood clearly to select an optimum material for handling molten salts to be used in the oxide reduction process of PWR spent fuel. In this study, the oxidation states of corrosion products on the surface of Inconel 600 and 800H as well as their chemical compositions and structural informations were determined by using XPS, ICP-AES, AAS, EPMA and XRD after the corrosion experiment with lithium molten salts at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 25 hours. Nickel and oxygen were detected from the corrosion products on the surface of Inconel plates and chromium was found to be dissolved out into lithium molten salts leaving cracks on the surface. The corrosion products were identified as metal oxides such as Fe$_2$O$_3$, Cr$_2$O$_3$, NiO, NiFe$_2$O$_4$and MnO by using XPS and XRD.

  • High temperature materials used in the elevated temperature and corrosive atmosphere must have the good oxidation resistance and preserve their own mechanical properties simultaneously. For the oxidation resistance, it is very important to form a protective oxide scale such as $Al_2O_3$ or $Cr_2O_3$ on the substrate. However, the additions of protective oxide forming elements such as Cr and Al in the alloy to enhance its oxidation resistance are limited due to the deleterious effects on their mechanical properties. PECVD(P1asma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) coating processes were employed to improve the oxidation resistance at high temperature. Cr and/or A1 were coated on the substrates of Ni and Inconel 600 at various temperatures of 400, 500, $600^{\circ}C$ and at different conditions of specimen surfaces. Then, coated specimens were exposed to isothermal and cyclic oxidation conditions in air at 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$. In order to enhance the adhesion between the substrate and coated layer, heat treatments of the coated specimens were conducted in a vacuum. At isothermal oxidation experiments, Al-coated Ni specimen showed better oxidation resistance than pure Ni. At cyclic oxidation experiments at $1000^{\circ}C$. Cr and Al-coated specimen showed better oxidation resistance. Cr-coated Inconel 600 had also showed better oxidation resistance due to Cr in the substrate. By PECVD coating process, oxidation resistance could be improved, but it was not improved as expected due to the weakness of the adhesion between the substrate and the coated layer.
