This study has decomposed the Gini coefficient using Korean Labor & Income Panel Study data and empirically analyzed the impact of demographic characteristics and source-specific income of householder on the household income gap using panel analysis. The scope of areas were divided into 'nationwide,' 'metropolitan areas,' and 'non-metropolitan areas,' and the period before and after the global financial crisis was examined. The analysis findings are as follows. First, when the entire period was examined by income source using Gini decomposition with division of areas into 'nationwide,' 'metropolitan areas,' and 'non-metropolitan areas', the following results were revealed. The absolute and relative contribution level of property income to the gross income was the largest in the category of 'nationwide' and 'metropolitan areas,' while the contribution level of earned income was the largest in the category of 'non-metropolitan areas'. In addition, property income worsened the household income gap the most in the category of 'nationwide' and 'metropolitan areas.' Second, property income worsened the household income gap less after the financial crisis than before the crisis. It is probably because the price of real estate skyrocketed before the global financial crisis, worsening the household income gap, whereas the price drop after the crisis temporarily alleviated the gap. Third, a correlation analysis revealed that households with older householders whose education is high school graduation or below had relatively low gross income, and households with higher source-specific income, especially earned income, had relatively high gross income. Fourth, when the household income determinants were compared through panel analysis with division of areas into 'nationwide,' 'metropolitan areas,' and 'non-metropolitan areas,' the following results were obtained. While the impact of earned income, financial income, and other incomes was greater in non-metropolitan areas than in metropolitan areas, the impact of property income was greater in metropolitan areas than in non-metropolitan areas. To reduce the income gap, the government should impose higher taxes on the high-income class and provide tax benefits to the low-income class, with efforts to create a wide variety of jobs. In addition, since income inequality gets worse as the proportion of incomes generated through asset holdings becomes higher, the government should focus on stabilizing property prices while paying attention to the regional differentiation when carrying out related policies.
The study deals with the empirical research on the condition of nutrient intake of low income class which be represented by urban slum and rural area, with the analysis of the factors which might influence on the prevalent condition of nutrient- intake. The method of the research was based on the spot-survey with questionaires. The result is that the levels of nutrient-intake are below the standard requirement level of nutrients in both of urban slum and rural area. The level of nutrient intake in urban slum lies in approximately 50% of the standard requirement level and 80% of the standard requirement level in rural area. The extent of malnutrition was explained in terms of the amount of calorie, protein, calcium and iron. More than half of the population in the community are below the standard requirement level of the nutrient- intake. The problem of malnutrition was serious in urban slum than in rural areas, which made a good contrast with the result of Peru study. Deficiency in calcium was most serious. The factor analysis of the prevalent condition of malnutrition in low class suggests that 1) The function of local market in supplying food is not so effective in the sense that the quality of the foods purchased id the local market is poor. 2) Low level of knowledge, the consequent ignorance and the indifference to the nutrition and the low income led to malnutrition. The level of income and the education were significantly correlated to the nutrient-intake.

An exploratory survey was performed to assess the present status of distribution and production of coconut palm (Cocos nucifera Linn.) in the rural landscape of Meghna floodplain of Bangladesh. A multistage simple random sampling technique was adopted to identify the study area and respondents. A total of 50 households were selected randomly for the study. Traditional knowledge on cultivation, management, and production of coconut palm was emphasized. Marketing of coconut palm products and income derived from coconut palm cultivation was taken into consideration. Perceptions of farmers, traders and professionals were described in due context of opportunities and constraints of coconut palm cultivation. Coconut palm cultivation was found to play an important role in household economy in rural Bangladesh sharing considerable contribution to the total income. About 10% of their total annual income was reported to come from coconut husbandry. Highest number of the coconut palms, 24%, was found to grow in the homestead compounds and in the pond banks. About one-third lands of the households were found to be covered by the coconut palms. Maximum, 19%, coconut palms were found in the 16-20 years age-class. Production of coconut was found highest at the age-class 11-15 years. The study found some important opportunities and constraints of coconut farming in rural Meghna floodplain area of Bangladesh. The results of this study would be useful for the rural development practitioners in Bangladesh.

The purpose of this study is to resolve the factors that affect happiness levels and leisure life satisfaction of middle-class and to find way to incorporate them into policy. In this study, a status analysis on leisure life and One-Way ANOVA conduct a study on leisure resource and income levels that affect the happiness level and leisure life satisfaction. To recap briefly, to reduce the social and cultural polarization caused by economic disparity and to promote leisure life satisfaction and happiness level is possible quantitative-qualitative growth and maturation of middle class. The most important thing here is increasing in leisure time and leisure costs that consumed in real leisure life. In other words, leisure life satisfaction and happiness levels in the middle class has seen a significant difference in depending on whether and how much to spend on leisure time and cost, rather than differences of the monthly average household income. More particularly, analysis results seem to hoping of the extra leisure costs about 50,000 won per person and increasing the leisure time on weekdays and long weekend holiday. Above all, It is important to redefine the middle class that meets the recognition of the people and it should reflect government policy. Ultimately, The state of the socio-economic-welfare policies will be further expanded in the direction for the middle class, thinking of themselves as middle class and leading national consciousness.
The purpose of this study was to identify what factors are associated with marital satisfaction of the foreign wives who live in small town. Data for the study were based on a snowball sampling of 101 foreign wives who married to Korean husbands and had residence in Changwon and Masan city, Gyeongnam, Korea. The respondents reported higher levels of marital satisfaction and lower levels of marital hardship. To identify the variables affecting marital satisfaction, a regression analysis was conducted. Independent variables included age difference, educational difference, monthly income, conformity of information about husband, marital hardship, relationship with parents-in-law and taking class with husband. While conformity of information about husband, marital hardship and taking class with husband had strong effects on marital satisfaction of the foreign wives, age difference, educational difference, monthly income and relationship with parents-in-law didn't show the significant effects on the marital satisfaction of the foreign wives.
Objectives : This study investigated the prevalence of unmet health care needs among Korean adults and related factors. Methods : The study participants were adults over the age of 20 mental health experience from the Korea Health Panel in 2012(n=4,730). Statistical analysis methods used in this study were the ${\chi}^2$-test, Logistic Regression Analysis and other basic statistics such frequency-and percentage using SPSS version 22.0. Results : (1)Significant variables of stress: Factors were age, economic activity, subjective health status, and activity limitation. (2)Significant variables of depression: Factors were age, income class(low) and activity limitation. (3)Significant variables of suicidal impulse: Factors were age, chronic diseases, income class, and activity limitation. Conclusions : Stress, depression, and suicidal impulse can be unmet medical factors; therefore improvement measures and mental health counseling programs in response to suicide impulses, should be developed. Thus there is a need for a health sciences approach.
Objective : To explore the relationship of social class and health behaviors with self-reported morbidity. Methods : The 1995 General Household Survey in Korea was used to investigate self-reported morbidity. Logistic regression was used to examine the relationship of social class and health behaviors with self-reported chronic disease and perceived general health. Results : For chronic disease and general perceived health, age adjusted odds ratios were higher for manual workers, lower-educated group as well as those in the lower income group; this held true for both men and women. Health behaviours had little effect or the relationship between social class and morbidity. The relationship between health behaviors and morbidity was very weak. The lower social class expressed higher levels of negative health behaviors, although this relationship appeared to be very weak in Korea. Conclusions : This study suggests that an understanding of health differentials that addresses the issue of social inequalities in Korea is required.
This study aims to examine the relationship between the improvement of the income distribution index from the late 1980s to the 1990s and large-scale housing supply projects such as the 2 million housing construction project. Looking at Korea's economic development in terms of income growth and distribution, GDP has continuously increased since the establishment of the government, especially in the late 1980s. The Gini Index, a representative income inequality index, rapidly deteriorated in the early 1970s, and gradually improved from the late 1980s. The 2 million housing construction project, announced in 1988, supplied a third of the existing nationwide housing stock of 6.5 million units in three years. The project cost was 65 trillion won, equivalent to 50% of Korea's GDP at the time. This study questioned whether the ratio of the number of employed workers in the construction industry was a variable directly affecting the Gini Index. To verify this, the causal relationship between the proportion of employed workers in the construction and manufacturing industries and the Gini Index from 1979 to 2008 was statistically analyzed. For this, the ARIMA model was established for each variable, and the correlation of their residuals was verified. The 2 million housing construction project had the effect of improving income inequality in terms of rising wages for production workers and creating jobs for the low-educated and low-income class. During the project period, the number of middle-income earners increased sharply, and the income gap between the high-income and low-income earners greatly decreased. The expansion of the construction volume can be used as a powerful and direct policy tool for improving income distribution. However, the effect may be limited. When the proportion of workers exceeds the threshold, the effect is weakened.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate of home-visiting nursing costs for low-income elderly with chronic disease in a metropolitan city using the severity classification and ABC(active-based costing). Methods: First, the HHC activity pool was established. The performance time of each nursing activity were estimated. Second, nursing resources(labor costs, operating costs, and traffic expenses) were analyzed and nursing cost per minute was calculated. And then the cost of each activity was estimated. Third, 202 visiting cases were classified into three group by their severity. And then nursing cost per visit according to their severity was estimated. Results: 59 nursing activities were included in HHC activity pool. The average working time of 59 nursing activity was 6.7minutes and nursing cost per minute was 489 won. According severity, nursing cost per visit were in class I, 54,296 (won), class II 83,124(won), and class III 93,455(won).
Objectives: This study analyzed the associations of hypertension (HTN) with symptoms and diagnosis of depression by income level among Korean adults. Methods: This study was based on the 2010-2017 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data; a total of 29 425 adults (aged 20 years or older) were analyzed. HTN was defined as a systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg, or use of hypertensive medications. Depression symptoms were evaluated based on a questionnaire about depression-related symptoms. A depression diagnosis was defined based on questionnaire responses indicating that a participant had been diagnosed with depression. Household income was divided into higher or lower income ranges based on the median income of the participants. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the associations between HTN and depression symptoms/diagnosis in the higher-income and lower-income groups. Results: In the higher-income group, the odds ratio (OR) for the association between HTN and depression symptoms was 1.15 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.97 to 1.37), and the OR for the association between HTN and depression diagnosis was 1.41 (95% CI, 1.13 to 1.76). In the lower-income group, the OR for the association between HTN and depression symptoms was 1.18 (95% CI, 1.04 to 1.34), whereas the OR for the association between HTN and depression diagnosis was 0.82 (95% CI, 0.70 to 0.97). Conclusions: The associations of HTN with symptoms and diagnosis of depression differed by income level.
