A through-railway bridge with an inclined girder has recently been applied to optimize the cross-section of a slender bridge structure in railway bridges. To achieve the additional cross-section optimization effect by the bolted end-plate connection, it is necessary to investigate the application of the bolted end-plate tension connection between the inclined girder and the crossbeam. This basic study was conducted on the application of the bolted end-plate moment connection of crossbeams to half-through girders with inclined webs. The combined behavior of vertical deflection and rotational behavior was observed due to the effect of the web inclination in the inclined girder where the steel crossbeam was connected to the girder by the bolted end-plate moment connection. Therefore, in the experiment, the deflection of the inclined girder was 1.77-2.93 times greater than that of the vertical girder but the lateral deflection of the inclined girder was 0.4 times less than that of the vertical girder. Moreover, the tensile stress of the upper bolts in the inclined girder with low crossbeams was clearly 0.81 times lower than that of the vertical girder. According to the results, the design formula for vertical girders does not reflect the influence of the web inclination. Therefore, this study proposed the design procedures for the inclined girder to apply the bolted end-plate moment connection of the crossbeam to the inclined girder by reflecting the design change factors according to the effect of the web inclination.

A beam splice method using inclined end-plates and high-strength tension bolts was developed. The end-plates welded to a bracket and a spliced beam are connected each other by using the tension bolts. In the present study, six exterior beam-to-column moment connections were tested under cyclic loading. Test parameters were the end-plate details and bolt arrangements. All specimens were designed so that moment resistances of the end-plates and bolts were greater than the required moment at the beam splice, in accordance with the design methods of AISC Design Guide 4. Test results showed that in the beam splices with the extended end-plates, the beam moment successfully transferred to the bracket, without any defeats such as excessive prying action of the end plates and brittle failure at the end plate-to-beam flange weld joints. However, the deformation capacities of the overall beam-to-column connections were limited due to the brittle failure of the beam-to-column flange weld joints. From the test results, recommendations for seismic design and detailing of the beam-to-column moment connection with inclined end-plate beam splice were given.
Plate impingement of the impulse wave discharged from the open end of a duct is numerically investigated using a CFD method. Harten-Yee Total Variation Diminishing method is used to solve the unsteady, compressible flow governing equations. The Mach number, the flat plate inclination and the distance between the duct exit and inclined flat plate are changed to investigate their effects on the impinging flow field. The impulse wave impingement on the inclined flat plate depends on Mach number $M_s$ and the plate inclination $\psi$. The pressure distributions on the inclined flat plate show that for a small r/D, the peak pressure at the center of an inclined flat plate decreases with an increase in the plate inclination $\psi$ in the range of $\psi$ from $45^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$ but for a large r/D, the peak pressure decreases with an increase in $\psi$ in the range of $\psi$ from $75^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. It is also found that for all of r/D, the peak pressure at the center of an inclined flat plate has a maximum value in $\psi=90^{\circ}$.
It was investigated that two plates of aluminum can be welded by hot extru-shear welding process with extru-shear welding dies, and that the welding strength and metal flow on the welding section were analyzed by computer simulation according to the welding variables such as inclined angle of cutter and overlapped length of plates and temperature of plates. It was known by computer simulation that welding strength on the welding section of plates could be influenced by the inclined angle of cutter and overlapped length of plates and temperature of plates. And it was known by experiments that two plates of aluminum can be welded on the end sections by hot extru-shear welding process using extru-shear welding dies, and that welding strength is the highest when inclined angle of dies is $70^{\circ}$, and overlapped length is 1.2 mm, and temperature is $520^{\circ}$, when aluminum 5052 two plates with 1.6 mm thickness are used as welding material.

This paper attempts to predict the stress concentration around the corner of rectangular inserts of different material of mechanical properties from the base material of the finite rectangular plate. The problem is analyzed through the FEM and photo-elastic experiment with the inclination angle of the insert as variable parameters. According to the experiments and the numerical analysis, the maximum stress concentration occurs at the point of tangential discontinuity of a insert. When the lain insert or opening was so inclined that the distance from the free end of the plate to a corner became minimum, the maximum stress concentration factor was found.
An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the effects of different working fluids on the behavior and thermal performance of a hi-directional thermodiode. The thermodiode was made up of two rectangular loops mounted between a collector plate and a radiator plate. Rotatable joints between the horizontal and inclined segments of the loops enable easy alteration of the direction of heat transfer. The loops and the tank were filled with a working fluid for effective heat transfer when the thermodiode was forwarded biased. Six different working fluids were tested with thermal conductivity values ranging from 0.1 to $0.56W/m-^{\circ}C$, thermal expansion coefficient values ranging from $1.8\;{\times}10^{-4}$ to $1.3\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;K^{-1}$, and kinematic viscosity values ranging from $0.65\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $100\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;m^2/s$. Especially, mixtures of $Al_2O_3$ (30nm Particle) in deionized water have been tested for the volumetric ratios of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.1, 0.2%. Each experiment was carried out after the loop was filled with a working fluid for effective heat transfer and the thermodiode was forwarded biased. The solar thermodiode was heated by a radiant heater consisting of 20 halogen lamps that generated a heat flux of about $1000\;W/m^2$ on the collector surface. Results are given in terms of temperature development in different parts of the loop as heat is delivered from its hot end to the surrounding atmosphere by the radiator made of copper plates.
A new modified full scale double tee slabs with the length of nib plate - 1,500 mm were suggested, designed, and experimentally evaluated up to the loading of flexural failure. This slabs were composed of the tee section which was same to original PCI double tee and the plate section which was modified in a new shape, and the prestressing force was applied at the bottom of tee section only. This specimens were made from the domestic precast factory. The safety and serviceability of the modified nib plate with the dapped ends were evaluated up to the ultimate flexural strength of tee section. As the experimental loading increased, the flexural crackings developed first in the bottom of the slab and they changed to the increased flexural shear and inclined shear crackings in the nib and dapped portion of the double tees. The suggested modified double tee slabs failed in ductile above the design loading with many evenly distributed flexural crackings. The thickness of nib plate - 250 mm does not show any cracking under the service loading and show several minor flexural cracking up to the ultimate state of tee portion. The proposed specimens were satisfied with the strength and ductility requirements in the design code provisions in the tests. Additional experimental tests are required to reduce the depth and tensile reinforcement of nib plate concrete for the practical use of this system effectively.
A comparative anatomy between the secondary xylem in the root and the stem of some Korean Lauraceae, including 6 genera and 7 species, was carried out in this study. The results are as follows; diameter and length of vessel element and fiber are wider and longer in the root than the stem. The angle of end wall of vessel element is more inclined in the root than the stem. Also more number of bar on the perforation plate of vessel element in root wood is found. From the anatomical characters of root and stem wood in some Lauraceous species, it is suggested that the wood of the root is phylogenetically mote primitive than that of the stem, except the diameter of vessel element.
