  • In this paper, PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor system that estimates position for moving objects in 2D plane is developed. PSD sensor is used to measure the position the position of and incidence light in real-time. To get the position of light source of moving target, a new parameter calibration algorithm and neural network technique are proposed and applied. Real-time position measurements of the mobile robot with light source is examined to validate the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed technique provides accurate position estimation of the moving object.

  • We studied prism design method for actual light source that have bulk in order to accomplish particular intensity distribution. When we know incidence angle and try to send ray to given direction, numerical formula that yields prism vertical angle, and then vertical angles were calculated sequentially. After analyzing problem that supposing to point light source, supplemented this and derived applicable prism design method on bulk light source. The intensity distribution and efficiency that came out by each design results were compared and analyzed, we got improved results through supplemented design method.

  • The Position Sensitive Detector(PSD) is an useful device which can be used to measure the position of an incidence light in accuracy and in real-time. In this paper, 2-D PSD sensor is used to measure the 2-D position of moving object with light source. To get the position of light source from PSD sensor exactly, we propose two position computation methods ; the parameter calibration and neural network. Experimental data is presented that offer the comparision between two methods and demonstrates the effectiveness of proposed approach.

  • The Position Sensitive Detector(PSD) is an useful which can be used to measurement the position of an incidence light in detail and in real-time. In this paper, light sources, to be predefinded positions, are used as landmarks and the 2-D PSD signals are used to compensate the position of a running mobile robot. To induce the position compensation algorithm, first, we inspect the error factor, make the error model, and evaluate the error covariance matrix between the real position and estimated position in dead reckoning system. Next we obtain an optimal position compensation algorithm to update the estimated position using extended Kalman filler by the relation of the external light position and it's PSD signal. Through the simulation of navigating a robot the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed.

  • In this study, we analyze the maximum power generation of photovoltaic(PV) module depending on constituent materials and incidence angle dependence of light. To verify characteristics of constituent materials, we made photovoltaic modules with 4 kinds of solar cells and textured glass according to fabrication method. To find the degree of the maximum power generation dependence on intensity of light, Solar Simulator is applied by changing angle of module and light intensity. Through this experiment, to obtain maximum power generation from limited PV modules, it is needed to fully understand constituent materials, fabrication method and dependence of incident light characteristics.

  • In exhibition spaces such as art museums, lighting should primarily illuminate the walls where exhibits are displayed rather than the floor. Commonly used LED lighting consists of an LED and a diffusion plate that closely resembles a Lambertian light source with uniform light distribution at every angle. This type of illumination focuses on the floor surface where normal incidence occurs. Consequently, this general illumination method is not well-suited for effectively lighting the wall surface. Specifically, to illuminate a wall, it is necessary to increase the light intensity in areas with a large incident angle in the light distribution. In response to this issue, our study proposes an illumination system that uses an ultra wide converter to adjust the divergence angle from the light source to 180 degrees.

  • Ultraviolet light is required for the sporulation of Didymella bryoniae, a gummy stem blight fungus in cucurbits such as watermelon, melon, oriental melon, cucumber and pumpkin. In this experiment, the upper limit of wave length for the production of pycnidia of D. bryoniae was 365 nm - 375 nm. Two plastic houses were covered with either common transparent film (wave length longer than 225 nm is transmitted) or UV-absorbing film ( wave lenght shorter than 388 nm is absorbed). In both houses, seedlings inoculated with D. bryoniae were placed in the center of the house at 30 days after transplantation of watermelon (cv. Whanhoseong), and the disease incidences between the houses were compared until 80 days after transplantation. The number of disease lesions and incidence of pycnidia-producing lesions under the UV-absorbing film were reduced by 90% and 80%, respectively, compared to the common transparent film. The internode lengths of plants grown in the two houses were not significantly different, but the plants grown under the UV-absorbing film had longer vines and more leaves than plants under the common transparent film. However, fruit characters such as weight, length, width, rind thick and brix, were not different between the two houses. Occurrence of aphids was reduced in the UV-absorbing film, but those of mites or diseases (powdery mildew and sooty mold) were not different between the houses. These results suggest that disease incidence of gummy stem blight of watermelon in the greenhouse can be controlled by the use of UV-absorbing film.

  • We extend our previous theoretical analysis of electronic and optical properties of p-type quantum well structures based on the two heavy- and light-hole system to include all the three valence bands. These theories are then used to clarify the origin of the normal incidence absorption and photo current at photon wavelengths of 2 - 3 ${\mu}m$, which was observed in addition to the absorption around 8 ${\mu}m$ by a recent experimental investigation with heavily doped p-type GaAs/AlGaAs multi-quantum well (MQW) structures. In the theoretical analysis, the Hartree and exchange-correlation many-body interactions are taken into account within one-particle local density approximation, and it is shown that normal incidence absorption occurs in two wavelength regions over the transition energy range higher than barrier height for p-type GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices with well doping of $2{\times}10^{19}\;cm^{-3}$; one region has broad absorption peaks with coefficients of about 5000 $cm^{-1}$ around 8 ${\mu}m$, and the other has two rather sharp peaks at 2.7 ${\mu}m$ and 3.4 ${\mu}m$ with 1800 $cm^{-1}$ and 1300 $cm^{-1}$, respectively. The result indicates that the theory explains the experimental observation well, as the theoretical and experimental results are in close agreement in general absorption features.

  • Occurrence of breast cancer is related to genetic as well as cultural, environmental and life-style factors. Variations in diversity of these factors among different ethnic groups and geographical areas emphasize the immense need for studies in all racial-ethnic populations. The incidence of breast cancer in Pakistan is highest in Asians after Jews in Israel and 2.5 times higher than that in neighboring countries like Iran and India, accounting for 34.6% of female cancers. The Pakistani population is deficient in information regarding breast cancer etiology and epidemiology, but efforts done so far had suggested consanguinity as a major risk factor for frequent mutations leading to breast cancer and has also shed light on genetic origins in different ethnic groups within Pakistan. World-wide research efforts on different ethnicities have enhanced our understanding of genetic predisposition to breast cancer but despite these discoveries, 75% of the familial risk of breast cancer remains unexplained, highlighting the fact that the majority of breast cancer susceptibility genes remain unidentified. For this purpose Pakistani population provides a strong genetic pool to elucidate the genetic etiology of breast cancer because of cousin marriages. In this review, we describe the known breast cancer predisposition factors found in the local Pakistani population and the epidemiological research work done to emphasize the importance of exploring factors/variants contributing to breast cance, in order to prevent, cure and decrease its incidence in our country.

  • This research aims to find the information concerning nutritional status and food intake in Korean dirt betic men. Thus, the survey was made on 202 NIDDM patients over 35 age at University Hospital. The data were analysed using F-test and mutiple comparison in SAS package program. Main results were as follows : Incidence of diabetes is high in their forties and fifties. Most of them are salary men, administrators, and professionals in middle class, who reside in metropolitan area including Seoul. They used to take light exercise and were founded NIDDM by subjective symptoms. 36.6% of them have other diseases simultaneously such as hypertension, cancer, etc. Food intake pattern prior to incidence was that intake frequency of grains, sugars, protein foods, and liking foods was higher than of processed foods. Amounts of calorie intake were shown to be lower than normal persons, so that it seemed to be controlled by doctors. In addition, the calorie ratio derived from fat was lower than RDA. Thus protein and carbohydrate ratio was relatively higher than RDA. Total moan fatty acid intake was 32.15g and it is no significance among weight groups in various fatty acid intakes. With respect to the physical standards of the diabetic men, weight, PIBW BMI, BMM, 757, arm circumference, and waist /hip ratio were higher than in normal. Therefore it seemed that these factors would be related to the diabetics. From now on, it is required to research the correlations of fatty acid intakes on the diabetes and their influence to serum lipid profiles.
