This paper describes a restoration of retaining wall, which was collapsed by rainfall. The failure causes was analyzed by field case, and then the countermeasure was suggested. The failure causes confirmed that observance of design and construction criteria was insufficient. It also was the climate condition like a rainfall and inappropriate construction management. The stability analysis for retaining wall, soil improvement and reinforced earth wall was conducted to confirm validity of the countermeasure. The analysis results showed that the suggested construction method satisfied in required safety factors. Therefore, it should be secured the stability of the structure based on the application of appropriate design method and construction management, when structure was constructed.
Various types of health functional foods (HFF) are popularly used among middle-aged. We surveyed 946 middle-aged in Korea for HFF use and significant variables for their HFF use including demographic characteristics, health related variables and nutritional beliefs. The use prevalence of HFF was 58.9%, and among all types of HFF, red ginseng products were taken most frequently, followed by nutritional supplements, ginseng products > mushroom products. HFF was taken more frequently in subjects from high monthly family income (p < .001), and in those from families with a high socioeconomic status (p < .001) in comparison to each corresponding group. Mean age of users was higher than nonusers (p < .001). Self concern about health (p < .001) and usage ratio of HFF by family (p < .001) were higher in users than in nonusers of HFF. Total dietary assessment score was not different in two groups, and users had a more positive view concerning the potential health benefit of HFF than nonusers (p < .001). Most users of HFF took HFF when they were healthy (52.8%) and experienced a little effect through the HFF use (51.2%). Most users of HFF obtained the information on HFF through family and relatives (30.5%) and most of them purchased HFF at pharmacy or oriental medicine clinics (44.5%). HFF users preferred multivitamin and Ca-supplements most among the vitamin mineral supplements belonged to HFF. Given the widespread use of HFF and inappropriate usage of HFF among subjects, the proper use of these products for the contribution to their optimal nutrition and overall health is a subject that should be formed through practical nutrition education considering the various variables affecting their HFF use.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine how gaze angle affects muscle activity and kinematic variables during treadmill walking and to offer scientific information for effective and safe treadmill training environment. Method: Ten male subjects who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited. Eight pairs of surface electrodes were attached to the right side of the body to monitor the upper trapezius (UT), rectus abdominis (RA), erector spinae (ES), rectus femoris (RF), bicep femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA), medialis gastrocnemius (MG), and lateral gastrocnemius (LG). Two digital camcorders were used to obtain 3-D kinematics of the lower extremity. Each subject walked on a treadmill with a TV monitor at three different heights (eye level; EL, 20% above eye level; AE, 20% below eye level; BE) at speed of 5.0 km/h. For each trial being analyzed, five critical instants and four phases were identified from the video recording. For each dependent variable, one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used to determine whether there were significant differences among three different conditions (p<.05). When a significant difference was found, post hoc analyses were performed using the contrast procedure. Results: This study found that average and peak IEMG values for EL were generally smaller than the corresponding values for AE and BE but the differences were not statically significant. There were also no significant changes in kinematic variables among three different gaze angles. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, gaze angle does not affect muscle activity and kinematic variables during treadmill walking. However, it is interesting to note that walking with BE may increase the muscle activity of the trapezius and the lower extremity. Moreover, it may hinder proper dorsiflexion during landing phase. Thus, it seems to reasonable to suggest that inappropriate gaze angle should be avoided in treadmill walking. It is obvious that increased walking speed may cause a significant changes in biomechanical parameters used in this study. It is recommended that future studies be conducted which are similar to the present investigation but using different walking speed.
This study intended to grasp the results of performance of school health policy and to provide information for the future policy performance in Korea. As the objects of the study we chose the secondary school(142 middle schools, 111 high schools) in Pusan, 1993. The contents of the study were about school health service and school health education. For the study we collected datum and took statistics through the existing theses, books, various statistics, and interviews with the persons concerned. Therefore the method of the study was basically emperical and demonstrative. The results of the study can be presented as follows : 1. the results of performance of health service proved to be 5.40% for vaccination against hepatitis B, 5.26% for typhoid fever, 6.65% for EH fever, and 9.84% for influenza in middle schools, In high schools' 5.76% for vaccination against hepatitis B, 0.03% for typhoid fever, 0.25 for EH fever, and 0.86% for influenza. 2. The results of policy performance of health education were found out 64.08% in middle schools, and 17.12% in high schools. 3. The factors which affected the results of performance of health service turned out 1) the improper standard of policy performace that applicants should pay their own expenses. 2) the lack of performer's will to carry out the policy owing to the improper standard. 3) the shortage of interorganizational enforcement activities and communications which influence the will of performance. 4. The affecting factors to the will of performance of health education proved to be 1) the improper standard that nurse-teachers can teach students in the classroom in case of need. 2) the lack of nurse-teachers due to the above inappropriate standard. 3) the lack of enforcement activities of supervising organs which employ and direct nurse-teachers. 4) the lack of activities of organs which should communicate one another and allot nurse-teachers of public schools without fail.
This paper proposes an enhanced projection candidate selection algorithm to improve the performance of the existing path prediction algorithm. Various user path prediction algorithms have previously been developed, but those algorithms are inappropriate for a real-time and close user path prediction environment. To resolve this issue, a new prediction algorithm has been proposed, but several problems still remain. In particular, this algorithm should be enhanced to provide much faster processing performance. The major cause of the high processing time of the previous path prediction algorithm is the high time complexity of its projection candidate selection. Therefore, this paper proposes a new path fragment management structure and an improved projection candidate selection algorithm to improve the processing speed of the existing projection candidate selection algorithm. This paper also shows the effectiveness of the algorithm herein proposed through a comparative performance evaluation.
Touch screen technologies are widely used as the basic input for mobile devices. However, for smartphones, touch screens have been utilized as a simple device that merely process text data. It has been considered an inappropriate multimedia input device for one to use design applications, such as painting, due to its narrow touch screen space, which makes it inconvenient to draw pictures. In this study, we propose to enhance this weakness by using infrared approach on a smartphone's input interface. The usage of infrared approach will allow for quick and accurate operations without facing any space constraints. In this paper, we provide a detailed description of the design and implementation of a smartphone user interface using infrared pointing device. Additionally, using experimental results, we prove that our proposed approach is more convenient and efficient than traditional touch screen approaches used in smartphones.
The e-learning system in which the learning is carried out by predefined procedures cannot offer proper learning suitable to the capability of individual learner. To solve this problem, SCORM sequencing can be used to define various learning procedures according to the capabilities of learners. Currently the sequencing is designed by teachers or learning contents producers to regularize the learning program. However, the predefined sequencing may not reflect the characteristics of the learning group. If inappropriate sequencing is designed it may cause the unnecessary repetition of learning. In this paper, we propose an automated evaluation system in which dynamic sequencing is applied. The dynamic sequencing reflects the evaluation results to the standard scores used by sequencing. By changing the standard scores, the sequencing changes dynamically according to the evaluation results of a learning group. Through several experiments, we verified that the proposed learning system that uses the dynamic sequencing is effective for providing the proper learning procedures suitable to the capabilities of learners.
Google Android, which is one of the popular smart phone platforms, employs a security model based on application permissions. This model intends to reduce security threats by protecting inappropriate accesses to system resources from applications, but this model has a few problems. First, permission requested by an application cannot be granted selectively. Second, once the permission has been granted it is maintained until the application is uninstalled. Third, applications may acquire powerful permissions through user ID sharing without any notice to users. In order to overcome these limitations, we designed and implemented a flexible application permission management scheme. The goal of our scheme is to enhance security and user convenience while keeping compatibility to original platform. We also verified the operation of our scheme with real applications on Android emulator.
This paper proposes a string analysis based system for classifying Android Apps that may access so called harmful sites, and shows an experiment result for real Android apps on the market. The system first transforms Android App binary codes into Java byte codes, it performs string analysis to compute a set of strings at all program points, and it classifies the Android App as bad ones if the computed set contains URLs that are classified because the sites provide inappropriate contents. In the proposed approach, the system performs such a classification in the stage of distribution before installing and executing the Apps. Furthermore, the system is suitable for the automatic management of Android Apps in the market. The proposed system can be combined with the existing methods using DNS servers or monitoring modules to identify harmful Android apps better in different stages.
In this paper, we propose a disconnectedness determination algorithm for workflow-supported enterprise social networks. this networks can be discovered from the work-allocation relationships between activities and performers in workflow procedures and It networks are useful to analyze, evaluate and numerically explain the work-performance of performers. But there could be the disconnectedness due to the characteristics of workflow, and therefore analysis result of performers can be inappropriate logically as well as mathematically. So, we have to decide whether or not this network is disconnectedness before we analyze workflow-supported enterprise social networks. Conclusively, we try to carry out a thorough investigation into the formation reasons of the disconnectedness, and propose a determination algorithm of the disconnectedness for workflow-supported enterprise social networks.
