Factor Graph-based Multipath-assisted Indoor Passive Localization with Inaccurate Receiver

  • Passive wireless devices have increasing civilian and military applications, especially in the scenario with wearable devices and Internet of Things. In this paper, we study indoor localization of a target equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) device in ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless networks. With known room layout, deterministic multipath components, including the line-of-sight (LOS) signal and the reflected signals via multipath propagation, are employed to locate the target with one transmitter and a single inaccurate receiver. A factor graph corresponding to the joint posterior position distribution of target and receiver is constructed. However, due to the mixed distribution in the factor node of likelihood function, the expressions of messages are intractable by directly applying belief propagation on factor graph. To this end, we approximate the messages by Gaussian distribution via minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) between them. Accordingly, a parametric message passing algorithm for indoor passive localization is derived, in which only the means and variances of Gaussian distributions have to be updated. Performance of the proposed algorithm and the impact of critical parameters are evaluated by Monte Carlo simulations, which demonstrate the superior performance in localization accuracy and the robustness to the statistics of multipath channels.

  • This paper describes a new method for performance improvement ultrasonic ranging system using V40 controller. Detectable range of ultrasonic ranging system depends on transducer frequency and bandwidth of the receiver, and damping of the transducer, etc. Conventional ranging systems are somewhat inaccurate because they do not have capability of compensating changes in medium condition. The novel ranging system overcomes this disadvantage by placing in the same medium a dummy sensor functioning as a standard calibrating instrument and by providing data processing capability using V40 controller.

GPS를 이용한 정밀 동기 클록 발생기 설계 (Design of The Precise Synchronized Clock Generator using GPS)

  • 본 논문은 GPS 수신기를 이용한 정밀 동기 클록 발생기의 PLD 구현에 관한 것이다. GPS 수신기에서는 동기화 된 IPPS 신호를 발생하는데, 이를 이용하여 시각동기와 클록 보정 등을 행할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 저가격의 오실레이터로부터 높은 정확도의 클록을 발생시킬 수 있는 DPLL 구조의 정밀 동기 클록 발생기를 ALTERA FLEX EPM6016TC144-3 PLD를 이용하여 구현하였다. 이를 이용하여 GPS 수신기를 함께 이용하여 높은 정밀도를 가지며 동기화 된 1MHz 클록을 발생시키는 하드웨어를 설계하고 구현한다.

Carrier Phase Based Navigation Algorithm Design Using Carrier Phase Statistics in the Weak Signal Environment

  • Due to inaccurate safe navigation estimates, maritime accidents have been occurring consistently. In order to solve this, the precise positioning technology using carrier phase information is used, but due to high buildings near inland waterways or inclination, satellite signals might become weak or blocked for some time. Under this weak signal environment for some time, the GPS raw measurements become less accurate so that it is difficult to search and maintain the integer ambiguity of carrier phase. In this paper, a method to generate code and carrier phase measurements under this environment and maintain resilient navigation is proposed. In the weak signal environment, the position of the receiver is estimated using an inertial sensor, and with this information, the distance between the satellite and the receiver is calculated to generate code measurements using IGS product and model. And, the carrier phase measurements are generated based on the statistics for generating fractional phase. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, the proposed method was compared for a fixed blocked time. It was confirmed that in case of a weak or blocked satellite signals for 1 to 5 minutes, the proposed method showed more improved results than the inertial navigation only, maintaining stable positioning accuracy within 1 m.

  • 시공간 블록 부호화(STBC: Space-Time Block Code) 기법은 단순하면서도 효과적인 다이버시티 기법으로 WCDMA, HSDPA 및 LTE 이동통신 표준에 채택되었다. 이러한 STBC 기법은 페이딩 채널의 추정 정확도에 따라 그 성능이 좌우된다. 채널 추정을 위한 기준 심볼의 오버헤드를 수용할 수 없거나 고속으로 이동하는 모바일의 경우 채널 추정이 힘든 경우가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 차등 시공간 블록 부호화(DSTM: Differential Space-Time Modulation) 기법들이 제안되어 왔다. 이 기법들은 채널 추정을 필요로 하지 않기 때문에 위와 같은 고속 이동 환경에 적합한 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 속도로 이동하는 모바일 채널에 LTE 파라미터를 적용하여 기존의 STBC 및 DSTM의 성능을 고찰해 보고, 단말에 적용 가능한 적응적 DSTM 복호 기법을 제안하여 그 성능을 고찰하였다.

지향각이 넓은 저가의 초음파센서를 이용한 이동로봇의 장애물 회피 (Obstacle Avoidance of a Mobile Robot Using Low-Cost Ultrasonic Sensors with Wide Beam Angle)

  • An ultrasonic sensor has been widely used as a range sensor for its low cost and capability of detecting some obstacles, such as glasses and black surfaces, which are not well detected by a laser scanner and an IR sensor. Although low-cost sensors are preferred for practical service robots, they suffer from the inaccurate and insufficient range information. This paper proposes a novel approach to obstacle avoidance using low-cost anisotropic ultrasonic sensors with wide beam angle. In this paper, obstacles can be detected by the proposed sensor configuration which consists of one transmitter and three receivers. Because even wide obstacles are represented by a point, which corresponds to the intersection of range data from each receiver of the anisotropic sensor, a robot cannot avoid wide obstacles successfully. This paper exploits the probabilistic mapping technique to avoid collision with various types of obstacles. The experimental results show that the proposed method can robustly avoid obstacles in most indoor environments.

부정확한 암호문의 복호화를 방지한 알고리즘 설계 (Design of Algorithm for Preventing Decryption of Inaccurate Ciphertext)

  • 본 논문에서는 잘못된 의미의 내용을 전달할 수 있는 문제점 해결을 위하여 부정확한 암호문의 복호화를 방지한 암호화 알고리즘을 설계하였다. 알고리즘은 복호화시 암호문의 에러를 체크하여 한 비트 이상의 에러가 포함되었을 경우 현재 진행중인 복호화를 중단함과 동시에 이전에 복호화 되어있는 복호문까지 모두 제거하여 수신자에게 아무런 내용도 전달하지 않게 된다. 실험은 비밀키의 대표적인 알고리즘인 DES알고리즘과 비교하였다. 실험결과에서와 같이 에러 비트가 포함되어 있는 부분은 원문과 다른 내용으로 복호화가 되었지만 100%의 복호률을 보였다. 제안한 알고리즘에서는 에러 체크를 통한 복호화로 에러 발생시 0%의 복호률을 나타내었다.

소화관 내 압력 측정을 위한 텔레메트리 캡슐 구현 (Telemetry capsule for pressure monitoring in the gastrointestinal tract)

  • As the cause and the treatment about gastrointestinal disease has been issued recently, the importance of measuring the pressure in the gastrointestinal tract has been increased. However, the conventional measurement methods of the pressure in the gastrointestinal tract cause the patients' pain and inconvenience as well as an inaccurate pressure measurement. In this paper, the pressure monitoring telemetry system has been designed and implemented for an accurate pressure measurement inside the gastrointestinal tract with minimizing pain and inconvenience. The pressure monitoring telemetry system is composed of a pressure measurement capsule and an external receiver. The capsule has been miniaturized into the same size of a vitamin tablet so that the capsule can be swallowed through the oral cavity. After the capsule acquires and encodes the pressure data in the gastrointestinal tract, the encoded pressure data are modulated by frequency shift keying (FSK) and transmitted with ultrahigh frequency (UHF) band signal to the outside of a body. The performance of the telemetry capsule for monitoring pressure in the gastrointestinal tract is demonstrated by the results of animal in-vivo experiments.

Cystatin C as a novel predictor of preterm labor in severe preeclampsia

  • Background: The most common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in pregnancy is preeclampsia. Serum cystatin C (CysC) is a potential biomarker of early kidney damage as its levels are not disturbed by volume status changes in pregnancy, and serum CysC levels could serve as a replacement for conventionally used creatinine. In this study, we investigated the serum levels of CysC in severe preeclampsia cases and the associations between CysC levels and poor obstetric outcomes. Methods: Our cohort included severe preeclampsia patients with a normal serum creatinine level. Creatinine was measured to calculate estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) based on the Cockcroft and Gault, Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Study (MDRD), and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations, while CysC was measured to calculated eGFR based on a CysC-based equation. We then evaluated the correlations between serum CysC level, eGFR, and obstetric outcomes. Results: Twenty-six patients were evaluated of which 38.5% delivered preterm and 30.8% had low-birth weight babies. Unlike creatinine-based eGFR and CysC-based eGFR, serum CysC demonstrate significant negative correlation with gestational age. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that serum CysC is a potential biomarker of preterm delivery with a cut-off serum level of 1.48 mg/L with 80% sensitivity and 75% specificity. Conclusion: GFR estimation using CysC is likely to be inaccurate in pregnancy. However, we found a significant correlation between preterm delivery and serum CysC level. Our results suggest that serum CysC level has the potential to predict preterm delivery in severe preeclampsia patients.

확장 Born 근사에 의한 시추공간 3차원 전자탐사 모델링 (Three-dimensional Cross-hole EM Modeling using the Extended Born Approximation)

  • 이 연구에서는 적분방정식의 근사해를 이용한 3차원 모델링 알고리듬을 구성하고 그 효율성을 분석하였다. 전기장 적분방정식에 확장 Born 근사(extended Born approximation)를 적용시켜 알고리듬을 구성하였으며 모델링의 계산 속도를 향상시키기 위하여 Green 텐서 적분을 공간 주파수 영역에서 수행하였다. 이 방법은 연속 함수로 표현되는 전기전도도를 갖는 이상체에 대한 모델 계산을 가능하게 하고, Green 텐서 적분시 발생하는 특이치 문제가 발생하지 않는 장점이 있다 얇은 전도체에 대한 모델링 계산 결과를 적분방정식의 해와 비교하여 알고리듬의 타당성을 검증하였다. 전기전도도 물성차, 사용 송신원의 주파수에 따른 개발된 알고리듬의 분석을 통하여 물성차 1:16 정도, 사용주파수는 100 Hz-100 kHz까지 정확한 결과를 얻었다. 그러나, 확장 Born 근사는 송신원과 모델의 상대적인 위치에 따라 오차를 나타내었다. 한편, 연속적인 전기전도도 함수를 갖는 모델에 대한 이 알고리듬의 적용성를 알아보기 위하여 서로 다른 전기전도도를 갖는 두 이상체가 접합한 모델에 대하여 적분방정식의 해와 비교하였으며 양호한 결과를 나타내었다.
