  • An efficient synthesis of 2H-pyrans is achieved by indium (III) chloride-catalyzed reactions of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with a variety of $\alpha\beta-unsaturated$, aldehydes in moderate yields. This method has been applied to the synthesis of pyranocoumar ins, pyranophenalenones, and pyranoquinolinone alkaloids.

  • The objective of this research is to find out the relationship among resilience of young children, their interactive peer play, and mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes. The research was conducted for 455 children aged 3~5 and their mothers of day care centers in the cities of Kimje and Iksan. To measure resilience of young children, the rating scale for parents and teachers(Koo, 2010) adapting DECA(1999) was used. And the interactive peer play scale of Choi and Shin(2008) adapting PIPPS(1998) and the Parental Protectiveness of Do and Falbo(1999) was used. The results from this research are as follows. First, there is a generally significant positive correlation between resilience and interactive peer play of young children. Resilience of young children gets higher as interactive peer play of young children gets higher. Second, there is low negative correlation between resilience and mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes. Resilience of young children gets higher as mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes get low.

  • The pharmacokinetics of eupatilin (an active components of Stillen, a new antigastritic agent) were investigated using UV-HPLC method. The quantitation limit of eupatilin was 10 ng/ml in plasma. After intravenous administration of eupatiln, 30 mg/kg to rats, the plasma concentrations of unchanged eupatilin declined rapidly with the mean terminal half-life of 0.101 hr. Total body clearance was 121 ml/min/kg, and fractions of dose excreted in urine and feces for 24 hr were only 2.5% and 0.919%, respectively. (omitted)

  • Two sponges, Stelletta subtilis (Sollas, 1886) and Stryphnus sollasi n. sp., were collected from depth of 24-30 m at Jeju-do Island and Chuja-do Island by SCUBA diving from July 2003 to June 2010. The new species Stryphnus sollasi n. sp is similar with Stryphnus niger Sollas, 1886 in the composition of spicules, however they differ in colour and spicule size. This new species has smaller oxeas and larger oxyasters than those of S. niger. This new species has two size categories of oxyaster but S. niger has one size category of oxyaster. The colour of S. sollasi n. sp is white, but the latter puce black. Stelletta subtilis (Sollas, 1886) is first recorded in Korean fauna.

  • In this study, anti-cancer effect of N-phenyl-O-phenylthionocarbamate (PPTC) substitutes was investigated. and the apoptotic mechanism by these substrates was examined on SK-MEL -28 human skin cancer cell line. SK-MEL -28 cell was treated at various concentrations for 48hr. and then MTT assay was performed to gain IC$\sub$50/ value and examine cytotoxicity of PPTC substitutes, and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) between cell and these PPTC substitutes was examined. • A severe outbreak of gray mold on kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) was observed on kenaf grown in the research field of Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Jinju, Korea in 2014. Gray mold appeared on young plants as gray-brown velvety mold covering stems and leaves. Infections that girdled the stem caused wilting above the infected area and developed a canker. The casual fungus formed grayish brown colonies on potato dextrose agar. The conidia were one celled, mostly ellipsoid or ovoid in shape, colorless or pale brown in color, and 6-18 × 4-10 ㎛ in size. The conidiophores were 15-32 ㎛ in length. These measurements and taxonomic characteristics were most similar to those of Botrytis. DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the complete internal transcribed spacer rRNA gene region confirmed that the fungal isolates were indeed Borytis cinerea. Koch's postulates were supported by pathogenicity tests conducted on healthy plants. On the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenicity test on host plants, the fungus was identified as Botrytis cinerea. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a gray mold caused by B. cinerea on kenaf in Korea.
