  • We review a series of crack problems arising in the general deformations of a linearly elastic solid (Mode-I, Mode-II and Mode-III crack) and, perhaps more significantly, when the contribution of surface effects are taken into account. The surface mechanics are incorporated using the continuum based surface/interface model of Gurtin and Murdoch. We show that the deformations of an elastic solid containing a single crack can be decoupled into in-plane (Mode-I and Mode-II crack) and anti-plane (Mode-III crack) parts, even when the surface mechanics is introduced. In particular, it is shown that, in contrast to classical fracture mechanics (where surface effects are neglected), the incorporation of surface elasticity leads to the more accurate description of a finite stress at the crack tip. In addition, the corresponding stress fields exhibit strong dependency on the size of crack.

  • In this paper, we propose Pseudo-TN IPS mde(Pseudo-Twisted Nematic In-Plane Switching mode) based on IT(In-plane switching Twisted nematic) mode that increase contrast ratio from improving optical characteristics and analyze the characteristics of Pseudo-TN IPS uude. Optical transmittance is 25% higher for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode. Because aperture ratio of the PIN-IPS is increased. And the control of Liquid Crystal for adjusting optical transmittance is more easier than IT mode, because optical transmittance variation is linear with applying voltage. Contrast ratio is 8% lower for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode in the horizontal direction. But, Contrast ratio is 20% higher for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode in the vertical direction. It has also cell gap margin and many benefits of IT mode, this may be used very well in the future LC Cell design.

  • As shear localization is observed in different deformation modes, an attempt is made to understand the conditions for shear localization in general deformation modes. Most emphasis in put upon the effects of pre-localization deformation mode on the onset of shear localization and all the other well-recognized effects of subtle constitutive features and imperfection sensitivity studied elsewhere are not investigated here. Rather, an approximate perturbation stability analysis is performed for simplified isotropic rigid-plastic solids subjected to general mode of homogeneous deformation. Shear localization is possible in any deformation mode if the material has strain softening. The incipient rate of shear localization and shear plane orientations are strongly dependent upon the pre-localization deformation mode. Significant strain softening is necessary for shear localization in homogeneous axisymmetric deformation modes while infinitesimal strain softening is necessary for shear localization in plane strain deformation mode. In any deformation mode, there are more than one shear plane orientation. Except for homogeneous axisymmetric deformation modes, there are two possible shear plane orientations with respect to the principal directions of stretching. Some well-known examples are discussed in the light of the current analysis.

  • A driving mechanism and excellent features for an in-plane switching twisted nematic liquid crystal mode (IT mode) that could possibly improve the viewing-angle and color shift characteristics and the cell gap error tolerance is proposed. .It is important that the surface azimuthal anchoring strength of the liquid crystal cell differs at the upper and lower substrates. Furthermore. as a rubbing-free LCD. amorphously aligned in-plane switching twisted nematic mode (a-IT mode) is also demonstrated.

  • We have studied electro-optic characteristics of a high performance liquid crystal display using Fringe In-plane field Switching (FIS) mode. The strong electric fields cause more liquid crystals to reorient almost in plane above and between the pixel electrodes. As a result, the operation voltage is lower and transmittance is higher than those of Fringe Field Switching (FFS) and In-Plane Switching (IPS) modes. Apparently, the transmittance depends on voltage applied at the configurations of FIS mode which are proposed. Therefore, we have studied certain length of between electrodes for maximum transmittance and light intensity.

  • The Depth Picture can be Encoded by the Plane Coding Mode that is the Method for Coding Mode by Considering a Part of the Picture as the Plane. In this Paper, we Propose the Method of Determining the Variable-sized Block for Variable Block Coding in the Plane Coding Mode for the Depth Picture. The Depth Picture Can be Encoded in the Plane Coding Through Estimating the Plane Which is Close to Pixels in the Block Using Depth Information. The Variable-sized Block Coding in the Plane Coding can be Applied as Follows. It Calculates the Prediction Error between Predicted Depths by the Plane Estimation and the Measured Depths. If Prediction Error is Below the Threshold, the Block is Encoded by Current Size. Otherwise, it Divides the Block and Repeats Above. If the Block is Divided Below the Minimum Size, the Block is not Encoded by the Plane Coding Mode. The Result of the Simulation of the Proposed Method Shows that the Number of Encoded Block is Reduced to 19% as Compared with the Method Using the Fixed-sized Block in the Depth Picture Composed of one Plane.

  • The variable structure controller has the characteristic that while in sliding mode, the system moves along the switching plane in the vicinity of the switching plane, so it is robust to the parameter fluctuations of the plant. However, a controller based on a variable structure may not meet the desired performance when it is commanded to track any input or exposed to disturbances. To solve this problem, a sliding mode controller based on the IVSC approach excluding an integrator is proposed in this study. The proposed sliding mode control was applied to the position control of a hydraulic cylinder piston. The sliding plane was determined by the pole placement and the control input was designed to ensure the existence of the sliding mode. The feasibility of the modeling and controller was reviewed by comparing it with a conventional proportional control through computer simulation using MATLAB software and experiment in the presence of significant plant parameter fluctuations and disturbances.

  • The vibration analysis of an axially moving membrane are investigated when the membrane has the two sets of in-plane boundary conditions, which are free and fixed constraints in the lateral direction. Since the in-plane stiffness is much higher than the out-of-plane stiffness, it is assumed during deriving the equations of motion that the in-plane motion is in a steady state. Under this assumption, the equation of out-of-plane motion is derived, which is a linear partial differential equation influenced by the in-plane stress distributions. After discretizing the equation by using the Galerkin method, the natural frequencies and mode shapes are computed. In particular, we put a focus on analyzing the effects of the in-plane boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the moving membrane.

  • This study discusses a non-contact optical technique electronic, electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPI) that is well suited for in-plane and out-of-plane deformation measurement Used as specimen which has the boundary condition of two clamped parallel edges composite material AS4/PEEK[30/-30/90]s was analyzed by ESPI to determined the characteristics of tensile and vibration. These are quantitativly compared with the result of FEM analysis. Finally the results of this study are briefly summarized as follows : (1) In the in-plane strain analysis by comparison of theoretical results with experimental results qualitatively we confirmed that measurement errors are within 3 % in case of accuracy (2) From comparison of experimental vibration modes with numerical vibration mode shapes by the FEM analysis quantitatively we confirmed that vibration mode measurement by the ESPI has high accuacy.

  • A theoretical study of mutual coupling effects between two H-plane coupled microstrip patch antennas is presented. The radiation resistance and slot capacitance of a single micro-strip patch are calculated. To investigate the mutual coupling effects, the even and odd mode characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constants are obtained using the coupled microstrip line model. The S-parameter matrix elements 511,512 are used to study the mutual coupling e(facts in S-band frequency ranges for various patch spacings. Theoretical results and measurements are in good agreement.
